Kinda funny that a Valentine's letter is what's potentially given us some fascinating lore on Gaster(??) and his personality huh? Lets take a closer look at it, piece by piece.

A detailed-ish post of my thoughts under the cut (partially crossposted from my Twitter)

Now, first, there is of course a possibility this letter is not from Gaster. Some of the dialect is a bit off from the Gaster we've come to know, as well as the fact that the number assigned to this letter is right before Lanino & Elnina's letter, which could imply it's a yet to be revealed character in Chapter 3 (perhaps the secret boss?)

Regardless, for the purposes of this post, since I have more thoughts related to if it is Gaster than if it isn't, we're going to assume that this is from Gaster.

Let's start with before Gaster even addresses us.

This seems to be referring to the classic Wingdings font Gaster is synonymous with. Apparently, our heart (or SOUL) is what's allowing us to understand him...

From here, Gaster goes on to say

And from this, we're able to gather that Gaster seems to have a poor perception of time. I guess being shattered across time and space would make it hard to keep track of the years lol. Also, some of my favorite UT fanworks have interpreted Gaster as having a poor perception of time, so to see that actually be part of his character is pretty neat!

The spelling of "Delta Rune" is pretty odd to me here, we've never seen it referred to as two words before... however, the fact that this letter references Deltarune at all, as well as us waiting for the next chapters, is pretty strong evidence that this is, in fact, Gaster. Or at least one potentially many fragments of him.

which uh... which kind of love are you talking about there Gaster... which kind of love is it... Gaster is it love or LOVE...

Anyway, the next few parts of the letter I have a lot of thoughts about...

There is one character I can think this is talking about... is that person trapped within Deltarune's code, which is generally assumed to be Dess. Saving Dess from the code or game files is not something the characters within the game could help with; the code and/or game files are something only we, the player, could access. Hence why Gaster is asking us for help.

There's a few thoughts I have relating to this that delve into theory territory, so bare with me for a moment.

If we're to believe that Gaster is the "mysterious someone" who talked to Spamton and Jevil, then he could have been trying to inform them of the nature of their world (ie, that its a videogame) so that they could help him free Dess from the code; either because he genuinely wants to save her, or her being in the code is affecting the results of his experiment.

Or perhaps, it were different fragments of him communicating with Jevil and Spamton, all with the same goal of freeing Dess, but working independently of each other, and this is just another (albeit perhaps more whole) fragment of Gaster seeking out help from us. He was shattered across time and space after all

Which brings us to the next section of this letter:

This part's pretty cool, because before now, Gaster being forgotten was pretty much a theory. Nothing in Undertale directly states that he was forgotten, just that he was shattered across time and space and that Asgore took a while to decide on a new Royal Scientist.

But saying its ironic that he forgot someone? The only way that could be ironic in this context is if he, too, was forgotten. So now, that's pretty much confirmed at least

Along with his poor perception of time, it seems like Gaster also has a poor perception of himself. Not even being able to remember if the person who needs help is him. I wonder what he was thinking about when saying "PERHAPS"? Maybe the fact that he's shattered across time and space currently... If I were him that's definitely something I'd ponder asking for help with

Gaster goes on to say he'd recognize who it was if he saw them and "I NEVER FORGET SOMEONE I DON'T REMEMBER" which I don't really have much to say about

Now this next part is also intruiging.. and I'm not totally sure what to think of it

Supposing this isn't just assuming the recipient would literally respond to the letter out loud, this feels the same as when characters in Deltarune are able to "hear" what we say through our SOUL when we're more asynchronized from Kris

Like in Chapter 1 when we observe Susie and try to guide her, or the Snowgrave route.

Can Gaster hear us speak through our SOUL too?

If thats the case though, he seems unaware of our SOUL's ability to talk to people through our will, since he mistook it for us speaking out loud... even though he had that whole segment in the beginning of Deltarune where we created a vessel by communicating through our SOUL

I don't think there's anything I can glean from this other than something something that one Gaster Follower with someone's face in their hands that says "I'm holding a piece of him right here" but that feels like a stretch. It's probably just Gaster being strange due to space and time shattering shenanigans

Now, on to the end of the letter

And this part is extra fun because as I was typing this up originally, just like it said, the letter is now gone. It is just straightup not there anymore if you go to the link (here), and now looks like this

If this truly is from Gaster, that makes this all very, very interesting...
