A redesign of Opaline from g5. I get they were going to “fire-Opal” as her name concept, but absolutely NO fire comes through in the canon design.
It just feels like someone really wanted to make Tempest a villain and found out that wasn’t going to work last minute.

if you're in Europe PLEASE consider signing the Stop Destroying Games initiative. the deadline is July 31st 2025. i've posted about it before; it aims to create legislation for publishers to stop killing the games you pay for and to provide an end-of-life plan for live-service products. thank you!!!

Also for the 10th anniversary, I made a music video featuring my remix of “Hooray for the Honey Girls”. It includes scenes from the old Honey Girls music videos as well as my art!

Happy 10th Anniversary, Honey Girls!!
I can’t believe that one of my favorite series is ten years old already! I just had to make not one, but two fanart of our favorite trio! The first is the Honey Girls at one of their biggest concerts yet, and the second is in a poster style with their signatures!
This series meant a lot to me when I was younger, back when it first came out in 2015. It influenced my art in a way, and even back then I saw potential in this series even if it wouldn’t be treated very well in later years. For a couple months now I’ve been both making remixes (as this series indirectly got me into learning more about music production) and drawing the Honey Girls as being all grown-up and having a successful career as musicians and producers as a way to celebrate their 10th anniversary. It’s also showing my appreciation for the series and hope for Build-A-Bear to improve this series and make it bigger than it currently is.

I love how K Pop Demon Hunters points out SO many issues and so much commentary on the K Pop industry and K Pop idols in general.
The infantilizing of Baby Saja? A commentary on how fans will infantilize and "uwu"-ify grown ass MEN and the industry CAPITALIZES off of it.
The sexualization of Abby? The fact that so many (pretty much all) K Pop idols will be objectified and sexualized to hell, and how their bodies are always on point because the latter is unacceptable.
The fact that the Saja Boys made it up the charts with ONE single, while its implied that Huntrix has been around for YEARS and has worked their way up for fans? But somehow, are now being upstaged by a random boy group? Yeah, it shows how boy bands and such make it up easier than girl bands. (Easy to connect those dots on why that is)
The Saja Boys going from all cutesy, pretty, and upbeat on stage to slouching and bleh out of sight? That shows how no matter how nice, bright, and lovely things seem to be, behind the screen and the cameras can be (may very well likely be) not the case at ALL. This is also communicated through them being literal demons but being loved by the public for the image they put up, not what really is.
Very normal about this movie...

Is it just me or do the Huntrix from K-Pop Demon Hunters remind me of Build-A-Bear’s Honey Girls in different aspects? I know it’s most likely coincidental (despite both it and the “in name only” Honey Girls movie being made by Sony), but keep this in mind (some spoilers below):
- They’re a trio girl group with a leader who’s associated with the color purple (Rumi and Teegan). Singing is both Rumi and Teegan’s main thing too.
- Rumi’s demon patterns remind me of Teegan’s stripes.
- A tiger spirit (along with a magpie wearing a hat) follows Rumi around. Teegan also happens to be a tiger.
- Mira and Zoey’s hairstyles and hair colors remind me of (respectively) Risa and Viv. Although in terms of personality it’s the other way around.
Also gotta say that watching K-Pop Demon Hunters made me feel like I’m watching a Honey Girls movie even more than the actual Honey Girls movie that had almost nothing to do with the source material (and funnily enough, KPDH is almost how I’d imagine an animated, true-to-the-source-material HG movie being like). I could just picture Rumi and Teegan being besties now lol

So I noticed something. Don't know if I'm onto something, or if I've just fallen victim to my fever dreams. But hear me out.
Rumi's mother was a member of the Sunlight Sisters, to be specific, she was the one with the braid, just like Rumi.
Tumblr media
At first, it's easy to imagine that's because she's trying to emulate her mother and live up to her legacy as a popstar and huntress. It wouldn't be surprising if she braided her hair in her honour.
But then you remember, who raised Rumi? That's right, Celine.
I don't have the screenshots for it, so I could be mistaken, but if memory serves, it was Celine who was braiding her hair back when she was a child. It was Celine who ultimately chose her and Mira and Zoey as the next huntresses and helped them raise to fame to achieve their goals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what if the reason Rumi wears a braid is because Celine is the one desperate to keep her mother's memory alive, even if it means neglecting who Rumi is as her own person?
The film never really dwells on the true extent of her hatred of demons and how it affected her relationship with Rumi beyond ruining her self-esteem and causing all of her internalised hatred. Maybe Celine doesn't hate demons just because it's her job, but because they took Rumi's mother away from them. Maybe her falling in love with Rumi's demon father is what broke the Sunlight Sisters up.
Maybe, the reason she styles Rumi's hair into a braid and why she refuses to acknowledge her nature as a half demon is because she's purposely suppressing the idea of Rumi as her own person, separate from her mother.
Maybe all Celine wanted all along was to hold onto the memory of Rumi's mother, even if it meant refusing to accept her daughter, whom she swore to protect, for who she is.
