One of the most important things to unpack and unlearn when you’re part of a white supremacy saturated society (i.e. the global north) and especially if you were raised in an intensified form of it (evangelicism, right wing politics, explicit racism) is the urge to punish and take revenge.

It manifests in our lives all the time and it is inherently destructive. It makes relationships and interactions adversarial for no good reason. It undermines cooperation and good civic order. It worsens some types of crime. It creates trauma, especially in children.

Imagine approaching unexpected or unacceptable behavior from a perspective of "how can this be stopped, and prevented" instead of "you’re going to regret this!”

Imagine dealing with a problem or conflict from the perspective of “how can this be solved in a way that is just and restorative” instead of “the people who caused this are going to pay.”

How much would that change you? How much would that have changed for you?

if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

someone sitting at home alone, an active alcoholic, squandering your charity, drinking all day is better situation than a street homeless alcoholic. someone using drugs in your charity house is better than them doing the same w no shelter

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

homeless people actually can’t be rehabilitated if you want to end homelessness. we either affirm the right to shelter for the worst drunken, lying, filthy, cheating, self destructive homeless people that exist, genuinely irredeemable wankers, or we concede that shelter is not a right

Zalbag looks so much like Duane here, it's so funny. But I like Ultima. Her design always bugged the crap out of me, it's so stupid. What if you just instead reinterpret the red jumpsuit as her being mostly coated in blood? That's kinda sick, and makes better sense for her character.

I always draw Ramza too young. I'll do another pic of him in his sick cowskull outfit some time, with more adult proportions. I just love the scrappy shounen look with his poofy hair. Anything but the Chapter 1 outfit that he always gets put in, it's such a bore.

I noticed the game's got a preorder page now on Steam. Dropping at 49.99 though, kinda steep for a remaster. Soul Reaver was only 30 for both games.

it's really sad how deeply all these intersecting structures designed to oppress and demoralize and disengage people from fighting back create this barrier to really, genuinely believing in the idea of change, of a future.

I think about how so many people fall into reactionary traps because they feel how much pain there is in the world right now, and, instead of thinking in terms of how to stop the systems causing the pain and how to build structures that would heal people, they think, "I wish I could go back to before this happened." The idea of a future is unthinkable to them, and so they start longing for a past that never was.

even if the imagined past was real it wouldn't matter because you cannot rewind time. events move in one direction. the inability to really believe in the future is the inability to ever take responsibility for our role in shaping it. what's been done cannot be undone, not ever. it can only be attended to.

At the last minute, I wanted to make something for Pride here in the US.

It's not as "finished" as I'd like (the left side is intentionally sparse for the things I didn't have time to add), so I figure maybe I'll add more to it each year until it feels complete.

The colors and meanings of each character's Pride palette is taken from the HRC website.

Also, the choice of Pride palette applied to the characters may or may not represent my own thoughts about the character. Can you tell which ones are which?
