Biden holds the Afghan army and Trump responsible for the tumultuous withdrawal.
WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden on Tuesday dismissed criticism of his decision to stick to a timetable to leave Afghanistan this week, despite the fact that it left 100 to 200 Americans and thousands of US-aligned Afghan nationals in the country.
Biden criticized the ousted Afghan government's inability to fight back against swift Taliban advances, which forced the US and its NATO allies to make a hasty and humiliating exit, in a televised address from the White House state dining room, and emphasized the role played by former President Donald Trump.
According to Biden, the Trump-brokered agreement allowed for the release of 5,000 detainees last year, including some of the Taliban's senior military leaders among those who had just taken control.
“By the time I became governor, the Taliban had consolidated its military position, controlling or contending about half of the country,” he added.
Officials estimate 100 to 200 Americans are still in Afghanistan, with the aim of leaving, according to Biden. He said that the majority of people who stayed were dual citizens and long-term residents who had made the decision to remain and that the US was eager to get them out.
Many senators had urged Biden to extend the August 31 deadline in order to allow more Americans and Afghans to flee, but Biden claimed the date was "not arbitrary," but rather "intended to save lives."
“I'm the one who made the choice. Some argue that we should have started mass evacuations sooner and that it could have been done more efficiently. “I respectfully disagree,” Biden expressed his dissatisfaction.
Even if the evacuations had started in June or July, he added, “there would have been a rush to the airport” from those who wanted to escape.
The final US soldiers left Afghanistan this week, as the Taliban took control, bringing an end to a two-decade military presence that Biden was determined to terminate.
Despite the fact that the majority of Americans agreed with him, the finish has not been easy. Biden's presidency, which had been focused on combating the coronavirus pandemic and rebuilding the economy, is now facing political scrutiny over how the withdrawal was handled, as well as the logistical challenge of finding new homes for the thousands of Afghans who were relocated to US military bases.
In addition, Biden must deal with an increase in coronavirus infections, natural catastrophes such as hurricanes and wildfires, and a succession of tight deadlines for passing budget bills through Congress.
Republicans and even Democrats have voiced dissatisfaction and fury about the Taliban's quick takeover of Afghanistan and what they perceive to be a bungled exit.
Republicans are likely to utilize the issue to try to disrupt Biden's policy and legislative agenda, as well as to use it as a talking point during next year's midterm elections.

Neeraj Chopra, don't exploit me for propaganda.

Neeraj Chopra threw 87.03 metres in the men's javelin final, a distance no other athlete could match.
In an interview, the Indian athlete stated that he had hurriedly attempted his first throw after a delay because he couldn't find his javelin, which he later discovered in the hands of Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem.
“At the outset of the final, I was looking for my javelin (in Olympics). I was unable to locate it. Arshad Nadeem was suddenly roaming about with my javelin. ‘Bhai, give this javelin to me, it is my javelin!' I told him. I'm going to have to throw with it.' He returned it to me. That's why you probably noticed how quickly I threw my first pitch,” he explained.
Later, Neeraj released a video in which he expressed his dissatisfaction with the reactions to his remarks.
“I respectfully beg that you do not utilize me or my comments to further your vested interests or propaganda. Sports teach us how to work together and be a team. “I'm quite disappointed to see some of the public's reactions to my recent comments,” the gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics tweeted.
He also stated that there was nothing wrong with Arshad Nadeem throwing his javelin, and that everything that occurred during the final was in conformity with the rules, and that there was no need to make a big deal about it.

The volatility of bitcoin will drive investors to return to gold.

The swings in cryptocurrencies, according to the Executive Chairman of gold mining company Evolution Mining, would push bitcoin investors to revert to gold. Bitcoin, according to Jake Klein, still has a "far way to go" before demonstrating the "longevity and security" that gold has provided investors over the previous 70 years.
On Thursday, he told CNBC's "Squawk Box Asia" that cryptocurrency is "running a tremendous amount of speculative money." “I believe that the volatility in the crypto sector will eventually lead to a return to gold,” Klein added. Last week, gold prices dropped, and analysts predict that they will continue to fall. Hedge fund manager David Neuhauser told CNBC earlier this week that the current drop in gold prices presents investors with a "huge buying opportunity."
Still, according to Klein, the two can coexist since gold can "sit beside" bitcoin rather than bitcoin posing a danger to the precious metal. Bitcoin is viewed as digital gold and a hedge against inflation by bullish investors, who expect the cryptocurrency to rise over time.
