Week 12
The final week of this 12 week mind bending experience. This week I hosted my Ant Petting Zoo installation and on reflection the aspect of weather really should have been taken into consideration. Heavy rainfall postponed my installation from happening and equally prevented a lot of foot traffic passed my installation. Other than that, the few people that did attend thouroughly enjoyed their experience of bonding with the local ants.
Upon arrival they were invited to have a cupcake for themselves and a miniature size cupcake to share with the ants. They also had running commentary of our aim for this installation, ant facts, jokes and some ant songs.
My views of ants after this experience has changed 180 degrees. Hopefully in the near future ants will be welcomed by every human and respected as the important living creatures they are.

In regards to The Dark Mountain Manifesto, I feel that we as a civilisation have been nurtured to be sheep, to follow rules and guidelines for how to live our lives. While artists and, likewise, uncivilised individuals have a natural drive to speak out and act against these rules for their interpretation of the greater good the majority of the population follow the people leading us. With this in mind I fail to see how, other than causing the number of people suffering with anxiety to increase, this information of ecocide directed at ordinary individuals is helpful in dealing with the situation. Rather, knowing we are sheep, should this not be directed to higher powered individuals that can introduce rules/guidelines for the population to follow. For example what has happened in the country of Bhutan.

Discovering ecosexualism
From this weeks reading, Ecosex Manifesto, I have never thought of my love for nature and the earth as being a form of sexuality. However, from re-evaluating my little habits and actions I can now claim myself an ecosexual. The realisation that everyone is an earth lover brought to mind a day long ago when I was only 8 years old, my parents decided to cut down a beautiful huge mulberry tree that had stained many white shirts. They made the devastating decision to take action while I was at school. When I arrived home to a tree-less backyard it was as if my heart had shattered and continues to pain me to this day. That tree was the joy of my childhood and I can now relate it to a sacred early memory in my ecosexual journey.

Proposal for Ant Petting Zoo How do we interact with nonhumans that are normally avoided? A commonality needs to be found where human and nonhuman can share a positive experience together. My proposed installation for my no place will be called an Ant Petting Zoo. I will place posters around campus to attract university students to attend. At the petting zoo the ants will be contained within a Perspex box with no lid, allowing for viewers to interact with them. Upon arrival viewers will be given a chocolate cupcake that they may share with the ants and given strict instructions to treat the ants gently and with respect. Viewers may then enjoy their moment with the ants, showing hospitality and interaction taking place between nonhuman and human. They may take photos or video to add to a collective hashtag on Facebook or Instagram, #AntsofUWA. Viewers will leave with a unique experience and positive memory of an unhostable.
