After being left on the doorstep of a relative by his parents as a baby, Tamerlane was then sent away to foster care by the relative that had been entrusted with him and his well-being. From what he knew about where he came from, no one wanted him. He'd been nothing more than a mistake, an accident that his parents had been trying to cover up, so he ended up jumping from foster home to foster home. Meeting Atticus and actually having a friend had given Tamerlane's life purpose, after it hadn't had any at all, and losing him made Tamerlane lose sight of who he was and where he wanted to go in life. So he got caught up in bad groups, made bad decisions, and ended up in jail a few times, and he thought about Atticus the whole time and how disappointed he probably would have been if he saw Tamerlane doing the things he'd been doing. After his last arrest, Tamerlane decided that he was going to try and straighten himself out and actually do something with his life, so he got a job as a prison guard and worked part-time as a mechanic in a little two-man garage only a few miles away from the prison he worked in. It wasn't anywhere near the best job in the world, but it helped toughen Tamerlane up a lot, and when he quit and started working full-time as a mechanic, his time as a prison guard came in handy.

Tamerlane decided that he was going to go to a bar that was walking distance from where he lived one night after work and have a few drinks to wind down after a busy week, but that idea didn't end up being a good one and didn't pan out the way he had been hoping it would. He ended up getting into a fight with a group of stupid and hostile drunks, and unbeknownst to Tamerlane, there was a man there watching him fend off four people by himself that was going to set him on a track that was going to change his life even more. A guy by the name of “Whiskey” had been at the bar the night Tamerlane got into that fight, and he found his workplace and went to see him there. He told Tamerlane that he was part of a secret organization Statesman, and asked if Tamerlane would consider becoming a recruit and training with them. “I saw what ya can do, and ya got some skills...I gotta say. Ya ain't no woos, I'll tell ya that.” After that, he left and gave Tamerlane time to think over the offer, telling him that he would be back in a few days to hear what he decided to do.

As it turned out, Tamerlane stayed with the Statesman until he was one of the very last recruits and then left because he didn't agree with some of the things they did and had conflicting views with them. Tequila and Whiskey both told him that he could stay and work it out with them, that Champ would have listened to him if he brought it to his attention that there was an issue, but Tamerlane simply shook his head and left, not wanting to be a Statesman at that point even though they wanted him to join them. He had everything they looked for in a Statesman, but he didn't want to stay there and become one. So, he went back to working as a mechanic and living his life simply in a small town in Kentucky, missing Atticus and thinking about him every day, while also dodging the Statesman and their pleas for him to come back. That went on for years, especially when the Valentine scheme was put into effect and the whole world was affected by it, and that was the one time that Tamerlane agreed to work with them, explaining that he was leaving again after that.

Since being reunited with his younger brother and gaining an older brother too, Tamerlane has stayed with the Statesmen and continued to work as their back-up, not wanting to leave his family there.
