The reason this came to mind in the first place was a video I was watching about this ultra Christian family with 12 kids being neglectful n all that, the creator rightfully mentioned that the oldest few children were being parentified

I rarely see people acknowledge that it's not just the eldest sibling in these situations that get parentified and that it's the oldest middle kids too

I'm the 3rd of 8 kids and I've always sort of had to look after my youngest siblings and feed them etc. My teenage ass even picked them up from school a few times

And that affects me even now that if I'm living with other adults I find myself in a mother type role cleaning up after everyone and doing the major chores

I get so tired

Listen, I love my parents even though they're flawed and have made mistakes. They have since apologised and said how they were only doing what they knew how to do and wish they could've done things better

There's always so much talk about parentification of the oldest siblings and never of the parentified older middle child who gets overlooked and scapegoated, even by the older sibling (who often claims they had it worse while simultaneously being complicit)

Expected to do so much only to get forgotten about unless something goes wrong then it's their fault, and if they push back at how they're treated or grow resentful to their family, they're called evil or even compared to wild or temperamental animals. Bonus points if you're also neurodivergent.
