Modern AU / Project: Every Perfect Day
[Character Design]
Konrad Curze
If you see the name Conrad Kurze in the news, it's probably not because of his real profession ("A damn good coroner, you couldn't imagine a better profession for him," Fulgrim once commented; "The reason you say this is because the term 'serial killer suspect' does not constitute a profession in legal terms." Dorn said), but because of the prophecies he made. These terrifying words were always partially proven correct by time, making him a subcultural icon. Those publishers and newspapers that used every trick in the book to attract attention compiled them into a collection alongside his anatomical works.
The title Night Hunter is popular among conspiracy theorists and urban legend enthusiasts. These people call themselves Night Lords - they graffiti their symbols and scenes described in the prophecies in the alleys of the city. Be careful when walking through these streets at night, don't be scared out of your wits.

“I can understand superstition. I just wish they could see what i see.” He hugged her and briefly kissed her cheek. “You are a hero and a kind soul.”
corvuscoraxofficial:
He rubs her shoulder right where the wing connects. “I know and that’s why I do not hold it against them. I would think that they would be happier to see a custodian as a sign of favor from my father.” He kisses her cheek “better that they tell me directly their concerns rather than let it linger in the air like poisonous vapor.”
A low hum came from her throat as he rubbed her shoulder, “Things have been so different since you have been gone- my kind have largely been restricted to Terra, and to find one so far from the Throne is a bad omen. Even if they can’t admit it, even the vaunted Adeptus Astartes are superstitious. It will take time for them to see me as anything other than a harbinger of judgement.”

He gave what passed for a smile amongst the chapter, faint but there. “Yes it’s true I did not know her then, but apparently we have fought in many of the same campaigns.” He was Keeping an extremely keen eye on his sons. He would not force them to love her- he would not even make them like her- but he wanted to know if this was more than simple healthy paranoia or something else
Wordless glances crossed between the Astartes; it was hard not to be cowed by their Primarch, especially with the newness of his presence. There was more by the way they shifted and the silence lingered longer than polite conversation usually allowed, but she got the sense the weren’t sure it would please Corvus to ask.
“Rest assured little ravens, I am only here to observe and advise, nothing more. All decisions are wholly up to your father.” She added, glancing at Corvus. “Don’t let me distract you from your duties- I will be around when you have more time for questions.”
They nodded, bowing and making the sign of the Aquila before departing. She leaned into him, her wings shivering a little now that they were alone. “They do it out of love and concern. I’m not bothered by it.”

corvuscoraxofficial:
Corax had been talking with another.
“Sir why do we head towards Terra when we have so many fronts that could find use of our aid.”
“Shadow Captain, i do not wish to over extend my chapter. I’ve sent fire teams on scouting missions; we will do what we have always done best and serve our imperium from the shadows. The main fleet sails for Terra because I must make my presence known to the High Lords and see my father.”
The marine looked at the custodes woman. “Does this have something to do with her? My lord, Many fear that she may be here as a spy of some sort.”
Corax frowned. “I am disappointed to hear such talk. I have no doubts that this woman will serve as the eyes and ears of the emperor as they always have been. We do not have anything to hide and everything to gain by being loyal allies to the Throne World. Furthermore she has shown only fondness towards our chapter. If you hold your own father’s opinion in any esteem you would realize that this woman keeps our chapter close to her heart foremost before any other chapter.”
Talk of such love was strange but it was then that he overheard the questioning of her age and he took a step beside her. He nodded solemnly to his sons.
“I was young then, but I was a laureled Custodian when our King and all his Sons walked the stars together, yes.”
She didn’t move as Corax closed the distance between them and eyed his flock of children. They looked to him, each giving their own solemn nods and salutes.
“Did you two… know each other personally then?” Arturia had to give the Captain credit for continuing his questions under the dour gaze of their father.
“We were not formally acquainted at the time. My purposes rarely crossed me directly with any of the Primarchs.” She replied.

corvuscoraxofficial:
“The future.” He kisses her temple as they enter the vast hall and Corax leads everyone in this solemn hour of silent contemplation
A smile curled her lips as he kissed her, warm breath tickling her skin in the cool recycled ship air.
The hour passed without incident, though she could feel the dark eyes of his sons passing over her in curiosity. No doubt word had rippled through the ship of the ashen Custodes who had appeared with all the silence and surprise they themselves had prided themselves. Her armor bore the marks of long service, and keen eyes might have spotted the tokens of the Chapter etched into the auramite and hanging from her prize chains. And that she appeared now in their primogenitor’s robes- there were only so many reasons she might be allowed such an honor.
When their time to be introspective had passed, those in the chamber rose. Some departed, while others lingered to talk to their brethren. A few approached the Primarch, curious glances cast her way before commenting to him. A few brave souls approached her too.
Arturia gave a nod at the leader of the small pack. She recognized him from the camp planet-side. “I’m glad to see you made it back unharmed, Captain.”
“Ma’am.” He bowed to her, as did the trio behind her. “We wanted to express our thanks, and…” Despite their black sclera, Arturia caught the glance at their Primarch.
“You want to know why I’m here.” She replied.
“Yes.”
Her gaze remained steady on him, “Terra has interest when her prodigal sons return to known space.”
“Of course.”
Another spoke up, emboldened by their captain. “How did you know he was here? No word could have arrived to the Sol system yet.”
Her head tipped to one side, her attention turned to the new face. Service studs marked him as a veteran. “We have our ways. Something of such great import does not go unnoticed.”
“What are you going to do now? You’re not going to take him from us, are you?”
Ah, the real concern finally comes forward. She thought, her smile turning wry. Their youth reminded her of her children back in the Palace. How she missed the young aspirants being groomed to be the genehanced soldiers of the Legio. “You are too young to know even Terra does not presume to control a son of the Emperor. We could not in the beginning, nor will I now. Where Lord Corax goes is his choice, always.”
Confusion flickered across each of their faces, unsure of what she might be implying. The Captain spoke next. “Ma’am- are you- were you alive at the time he was with us before?”
