ALAN’S VILLAINOUS CONFERENCE IN CAMPUS PARTY CONOSUR
I’ll leave the video on Youtube below and I’ll summarize the relevant stuff related to Villainous:
- Phase 1 was a challenge because they had to introduce the show in less than 1 minute.
- Everything we see about Villainous is canon to the story, they don’t want to create senseless content. Even the game ‘Maldad Mecanica’ is canon, that’s how the Hatbots are made (each robot has a human brain, and BH trains them with simulations).
- They made the website because they knew content would take a while, and they wanted to keep us entertained.
- They saw that we liked Penumbra so they made her instagram account.
- He had two slides with a lot of Villainous cosplays to slide to thank us, the fans, for all our support and that he’s immensely grateful :)
- Phase 3 was the last test to see if the show would work, and it did.
- FIRST SEASON SOON. New heroes coming! The Early Roadmap is up there, with lots of exciting stuff!
- They showed a sneak peak of the first episode, I posted it on my blog and on my twitter.
I made a blog called unpopularopinionvillainous and I was posting, big shock, unpopular opinions. However, I was also posting things about Ai animations and Alan Ituriel. This was one of the posts
There was more about the whole thing as more uncredited/former employees of AI (a company that Alan made, not Cartoon Network) began to speak up about this. I also hope that they speak out more:
"Certain animation studio in mexico (Mexico city) paid me 695USD for 6 months of work, 7 days a week, more than 15 hours of work. Everything without food, transport nor social security" "we were a 'family' "
Benji: I was paid 500 mexican pesos for creating SunBlast
Diego Mejia: I was paid that for writing the script for the orientation videos
Benji: but It took me 3 months to create him, thats like 2 pesos per day
Diego: you were paid that? I was paid only 5000 per month and I was a supervisor annabel: you guys were paid??
Monica: You didnt have a contract?
Diego mejia: there was one but nobody had acces to it, not even to a copy
I know I'm gonna lose followers and maybe friends because of this, but I don't even know why this is a "controversial" topic. Since when was it considered controversial for people to be paid the correct amount or even at least close to minimum wage? I, an ice cream maker who gets $9/hour, am making way more than these people and I get paid for more hours or if I come in on days off. That's how bad this is.
Please do not turn a blind eye on this because you think you know Alan. You know how he acts with a script or in front of cameras or a crowd. Let's be honest, none of us really know how he is. If he truly was this poor/inexperienced, he should've earned money or gained experience working under people. Not just jumping into being a showrunner.
I'm not calling Alan to be a a bad guy or even worse than BH himself, but maybe he's just too inexperienced in this field. Unfortunately, inexperience or even lack of money is not an excuse to treat people this poorly. Poor country or not, you should, at least, pay people minimum wage. Why go into something that you know you can't afford? Granted, he was more driven by dreams and ambition, but that's never always a good thing. Plus, Alan could have started a Patreon or a Kickstarter if he needed money that badly, but he didn't.
I am not saying to stop supporting Villainous or anything, just take it as a cautionary tale for those you support. Please do your research as much as you can and don't just judge for what you see on camera.
There's more about the topics regarding Alan here and more info from former employees: https://unpopularopinionvillainous.tumblr.com/post/618306917953126400/alright-so-what-im-gonna-show-you-and-will
