aw we love the chao minigames, they're so simple and kinda bad but really charming, can so see us having spent all our time in them if we had the game as a kid and we need to play more spinball, want to get good at it

that sonic autism is hitting hard. doing productive things? nah, only sonic in this brain and on that, more people need to check out the sonic advance games, tiny chao garden is so fun and chill, levels are great if a little hard sometimes (thank fuck for savestates) and the art and animations are peak (ignore the running animations shhhh) AND OMG PLAYABLE AMY AND SHE FEELS SO GOOD AND IS SO CUTE ARRRGGGHHHHH

massive ramble mostly about how sonic adventure 2 sucks ahead, you have been warned

playing through the sonic games in order lately has been a wild experience, played adventure 1, surprisingly fun, objectively garbage but fun as hell, ended up modding it a bunch too and it just feels so good. we knew that adventure 2 was a great improvement to 1 and was so excited to go into it, added a bunch of mods a friend recommended before we started to fix some issues and expand the chao (love the chao so much, little skrunkles), played city escape, amazing opening, one of the best levels ever, then the next few levels were pretty cool, but got to the pyramid levels and from there everything was down hill so fast, sonic gameplay slowed down so much and started feeling like a generic licensed platformer/action game with terrible level design and nothing sonic about it, knuckles stages were always bad in this game cause the stages are just way too big and the radar is shit (really enjoyed knuckles stages in 1 though :( ), and tails stages started getting too complicated and slow, especially that one in space where the game is just not designed to have stuff to avoid targeting, managed to push through until final rush, enjoying the bullshit wild story throughout but then i saw all those rails, in the game with the worst rail mechanics ever, the rails control so bad and never feel fun in adventure 2 even when we are doing good and succeeding, switching rails just throwing you in the air over a bottomless void and making you manually move yourself to get on the next one is so bad and not fun, slows you down so much, nothing to do while on the rails other than hold crouch so you dont go agonisingly slow and lean every now and then (so glad i patched out falling off while leaning cause that would be horrible) and like sure, if i got good i might enjoy the rails somewhat but i dont think its worth my effort and having a bad experience just for a chance to make a bad mechanic fun. had to drop adventure 2 before beating that level, looked up a cutscene movie to get the story still

my general rule of thumb for "would rose slash dirk do this?" is that rose tends to sacrifice control and autonomy for knowledge or experience. dirk is sort of the opposite, where he clings to what little control he has. rose follows doc scratch's advice and looks into the cueball, dirk constructs overly elaborate plans for how he wants things to go. rose readily listens to the words of the horrorterrors, dirk hides in his tower on derse until he has no choice but to face the empress. rose tears apart the game in search of answers, dirk is constantly warring with his splinters trying to maintain the ideal image of himself. rose develops an alcohol addiction to try to understand her mother, dirk refuses to let trickster mode affect him. etc etc
