He's panicking. She's been shot. He kneels down and brings her close, trying to listen for any breathing. He grips her head to his chest not caring if blood gets on his suit. Two fingers brace her jaw to keep her airway open and to look for a pulse... But he can't feel anything. He can't feel anything. And there's a lot of blood. A lot.

From the little time they've had together, they became family. He helped her search for her own. What she found should've crushed her faith in humanity. But it didn't. When it came down to it, she considered SHIELD to be her family. Even if they ripped her from home to home. She understood the 'why' behind it and was grateful for it. That conclusion alone seemed to repair a little piece of his own humanity. And he's so glad he found this kid in a back alley of L.A., hacking out of her van.

As a SHIELD agent, this is what they sign up for: losing each other. Good people. Problem is... She isn't an agent. She's just the consultant. She didn't ask for this. Or maybe she did. She was working towards her badge, training under Ward. She may never get to see it though. She may learn the hard lesson of what it means to sacrifice herself for others, to be the shield, even before she's officially a part of the damn agency.

Is this it? Is this the last of Skye? He doesn't want her to be scared if it is. He hopes that being this close to her, she can draw some comfort from his warm presence before her body and brain completely give out.

the thing about agents of shield that's so important is that it's all about hope

you can change the timeline and you can talk people down from the edge and you can save lives and you make a difference

it's literally all about "becoming part of something bigger"

aos is all about showing us that there is always hope

it's never too late for a ragtag team or even just one person to try their hardest

and it won't always work out but the important thing is that you always have to try

and i just think that's beautiful

guys.... i just made my v first gif.... and im shaking..... ive been exploring things on my laptop today, and i have a clipping tool, and i just realized i can not only clip screenshots, but i can grab videos???? and altho it doesn't come with sound, i have other clipping software (i didnt even know i had) that can turn videos into gifs???? which is ??????????????? im shaking. ive become unstoppable and ungovernable. i dont have any time anymore so if youll excuse me.......

Simmons, I think this is considered negligence, sweetie. You may not doubt in his abilities, but he's obviously still wrestling with some things. You might want to take a quick moment to give him firearm handling basics so he doesn't shoot his damn eye out. 💀

And then you get to 4.17, he's in the quinjet with Jemma, still tryna make heads or tails of the whole, "You were right: this reality isn't real. In the other world, you have a robot hand and you're a part of SHIELD and are proficient in the use of firearms and--," situation, and at this point, fw!Coulson is kinda shaking in his boots. He openly doubts in himself for the mission he just volunteered for.

"Who am I kidding? I'm not remotely qualified to be here!"

And Jemma refutes his words of doubt. "I know the real Coulson. And I believe in you, even if you don't just now. You're exactly where you're meant to be."

I know I mentioned this in the tags of my last d and c post but I’m talking about it again okok

The Framework!! But listen!! Because it wasn’t Jemma talking to him about Tahiti and saying, “you are Phil Coulson, agent of SHIELD!” It wasn’t Daisy’s hand on his shoulder! It wasn’t even her saying, “please, remember me.”

It was her recounting their relationship. It was the deepest, most bonded parts of them, their psyches, the very marrow of the bones, even the blood they shared. It was her saying, “this world is scary, and nothing makes sense and… you’re the closest thing I have to family. So I just hope that deep down you feel it, too.”

He’s her family!! Just like he called her the same when she was shot and the nurse said to call her family. He stood his ground and said that’s us. He’s the person she went to when things were heavy! When mornings were tough! When emotions were high and bearing them was too much for her! When the weight of the world fell on her shoulders

And, if I’m not mistaken, he didn’t know her name was Daisy, right? I know she went by Skye in the framework, but I don’t recall her ever changing it to Daisy while they were in there? If I’m wrong, correct me, but if I’m right, that adds so much more weight to him calling her Daisy, because he wouldn’t have even known that about her, if up to that point in the FW he’d ever even heard her called by Skye (I need a rewatch I’m sorry)

But past the framework!! Yes, s5 and literally space and time and my favorite quote from 5x11 and Mike’s whole spiel to him in 5x12 and all that. But season 6 (again need a rewatch forgive me) with Sarge!! Not only their being so many qualities of Coulson within him, especially how he spoke, but the particular scene I think later in the season where he has those fading memories

You know, the ones with the silhouettes? The silhouettes that are clearly two different women hugging him? But the women who are completely black, no face, no features? Because as Sarge, he doesn’t know them. They’re not his, but… he knows them. He can feel it. Somehow, he can remember them

And even into season 7. A Chronicom with LMD hardware, programmed by Jemma and created mainly because she missed him. Space and time didn’t necessarily separate him, but memories did. He only knew what Jemma included, and I’m sure she tried her hardest to recall the things Daisy told her about their relationship that she believed she should include. But he again knew her!! Knew about the letter!! Knew her as a daughter!!

It's kinda late, I'm pretty tired, and my brain is seeing the things it wants to see and is connecting dots that weren't meant to be connected...

*but seriously.... I need my AoS dawgs to watch Alias. You won't regret it. Yeah, it's got its flaws... But it's charming, and Jack and Sydney are the beating heart of it, just like Coulson and Daisy were for AoS. You're gonna love it. 🫶🏻

It really makes me emotional how Phil Coulson has always symbolized union, bringing people from different places and being the glue that holds them together. I love how this is codified into his Marvel appearances, from his roles in almost every Phase I movie, literally being the Superhero Wrangler, to his death leading to the Avengers coming together, to then creating a new team of people who would end up being as close as family. I love how AoS carries on this idea, how he continues to be the "guy who brings in strays", like people headcanon he did with Barton, like we saw he did with Daisy, and would do with others like Kara, how he's literally "the one who can bring all the pieces together". That's literally who he is. We (and him) joke about Dying being his superpower. But I think his real power is that he is the very personification of the ideal he inherited from Fury's "a man can accomplish anything once he realizes he's a part of something bigger". And people do come together for him. He's the one who makes possible the whole solution because he brings together the pieces that solve the puzzle. He is more than just Fury's right hand man, more than the Director, more than the dad of the group. He's literally the heart and soul of early MCU and AoS, the one that took the potential that so many extraordinary people, powered and otherwise, had, and managed to make them work like well-oiled machines, long after he was already gone.

It is honestly such a joy and privilege to share Agents of Shield with M. Getting to see all her reactions with a healthy dose of her gaping mouth at the unbelievable twists and turns the series makes is just... My heart wants to burst out of my chest. I love that kid, and I'm so so happy I get to share this dumb TV show with her.

*Mind you, were almost at the end of s1, and she is absolutely boggled. And when I told her about s4 being even more insane, she couldn't fathom it. She really is in for the ride of her life. 🤭🥹🫶🏻
