ALDS Game 4 (10/16) NYY 4, Cle 2
The Yankees showed no after-effects from last night - scoring three in the first two innings off a shaky Cal Quantrill - and Gerrit Cole pitched the series back to New York for Game 5.
Jose Ramirez made a large baserunning mistake in the third after driving home the Guardians' first run. He has also been shaky at the plate, swinging wildly at pitches down and in.
Josh Naylor homered for Cleveland, the Yankees had a two-run homer in the second.

ALDS Game 3 (10/15) Cle 6, NYY 5
Down 5-3 entering the ninth the Guardians scored three times, two on Oscar Gonzalez' two-out, bases loaded, two-run single, to win the most important, improbable game of this improbable season.
Once again the Guardians had the starter on the ropes and could not put him away. When the Yankees tallied two-run homers in the third and fifth the momentum turned and it looked like a repeat of game 1.
In three different innings - first, second and sixth - Cleveland got one run when it looked like they could have gotten a lot more. Turns out they were just waiting for the ninth.
Cleveland outhit New York, 15-5. All five Yankee hits turned into runs.

ALDS Game 2 (10/14) Cle 4, NYY 2 (10)
Two bloop hits and a hard-hit double in the tenth enabled the Guardians to beat New York and even the series.
The Yankees' runs came on a two-run homer in the first. The Guardians tied it on a two-out rally in the fourth and a solo home run from Amed Rosario.
Leading 2-0, the Yankees had an opportunity to blow the game open in the third, but Shane Bieber escaped a second and third with one out jam.
Aaron Judge struck out four more times and now has 27 strikeouts in 37 postseason at bats against Cleveland.

Wild Card Game 2 (10/8) Cle 1, TB 0 (15)
Oscar Gonzalez' 15th inning, leadoff home run ended the longest scoreless tie in major league postseason history.
The only downside is, Corey Kluber threw it.
The Guardians loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth on two walks and a hit batter, but the Rays got out of it.
There were 39 strikeouts in the game.
So, serials totals: 24 innings, four runs total, all on home runs, and only two innings in which a run was scored.

Game 18,989 (10/5) Cle 9, KC 2 - 316
Four two-out runs in the first set the tone for this victory.
Jose Ramirez went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI and Josh Naylor 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Oscar Gonzalez, Luke Maile and Will Brennan also had two hits each. Cal Quantrill struck out nine in six innings.
So the Guardians end 2022 needed 316 more wins to reach 10,000. They need to average 79 wins in each of the next four seasons to reach the mark in 2026. So we wait until next March to continue the countdown. Meanwhile, postseason play starts on Friday.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 619 games at .511 ball, or game 133 of 2026. They need 632 games at .500 ball, or game 146 of 2026.

Game 18,988 (10/4) Cle 5, KC 3 - 317
A two-run double by Jose Ramirez and two-run homer by Owen Miller highlighted a five-run fifth as the Guardians beat the Royals.
Three of the runs came with two outs, an RBI single by Andres Giminez, followed by Miller's home run. Myles Straw and Amed Rosario pulled off a double steal during the rally.
Gabriel Arias continued his shaky fielding, overrunning a popup in the fifth and not catching a throw in the ninth.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 621 games at .511 ball, or game 134 of 2026. They need 634 games at .500 ball, or game 147 of 2026.

Game 18,987 (10/3) KC 5, Cle 2 (10) - 318
A three-run bomb by Drew Waters in the tenth led the Royals over Cleveland. The Guardians did not look good in the field (two errors plus a gift run given to KC in the second) or in the clutch (0-for-15).
Despite these games 'not meaning anything,' the Guardians appear to be slowly sliding downhill for another quick exit from the playoffs. Outside the second inning of yesterday's game, KC has outscored the Guardians 17-4 in the last three games.
And Gabriel Arias continues to look shaky in the field.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 623 games at .511 ball, or game 135 of 2026. They need 636 games at .500 ball, or game 148 of 2026.

Game 18,986 (10/2) Cle 7, KC 5 - 318
Three-run homers by Will Brennan and Josh Naylor gave the Guardians a 7-0 lead in the second, but the wind and shaky pitching made the game close.
Guardians batters were shut down after the second.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 623 games at .511 ball, or game 134 of 2026. They need 636 games at .500 ball, or game 147 of 2026.

Game 18,985 (10/1) KC 7, Cle 1 - 319
Gabriel Arias' fourth inning error opened the door to a three run inning which handed the game to Kansas City.
Both starters had awful 2022 records. Loser Zach Plesac (3-12) pitched like it. Winner Chris Bubic (3-13) did not.
The Guardians continued their trend of striking out an alarming (for them) number of times.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 625 games at .511 ball, or game 135 of 2026. They need 638 games at .500 ball, or game 148 of 2026.

Game 18,984 (9/30) Cle 6, KC 3 - 319
Jose Ramirez' three-run homer was the centerpiece of a five-run sixth which allowed the Guardians to beat Kansas City.
Four singles, a double and a walk also figured in the rally. Even the first two outs - on line drives - were hit really hard.
Royals starter Brady Singer had overpowered Cleveland hitters in the first four innings, but the Guardians' first two hits - and first run - in the fifth opened the door and Singer did not escape the sixth.
Kansas City had taken a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth on a pair of home runs off Aaron Civale, who otherwise pitched well.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 625 games at .511 ball, or game 134 of 2026. They need 638 games at .500 ball, or game 147 of 2026.

Game 18,983 (9/29) Cle 2, TB 1 - 320
The Guardians scored two in the eighth on an RBI double by Steven Kwan and an RBI single by Oscar Gonzalez for their 28th last-at-bat victory of the season.
The Rays scored their run in the first. Trevor Stephan made the ninth interesting, walking the bases loaded and getting the last out - a fly ball - on a 3-2 count.
Both starters, in contrast, pounded the strike zone all night long. Neither starter walked a batter. Cleveland got one walk total (an intentional walk to Jose Ramirez in the eighth) and the Rays three total (all in the ninth).
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 627 games at .511 ball, or game 135 of 2026. They need 640 games at .500 ball, or game 148 of 2026.

Game 18,982 (9/28) Cle 2, TB 1 (10) - 321
Another extra-inning, rain delayed game between these two evenly matched clubs.
Gabriel Arias' first major league homer tied the game in the third and Amed Rosario's pinch-hit, bases loaded hit scored the winning run.
The Guardians, known for not striking out, whiffed 14 times.
Strange incident: a sudden, hard downpour arrived between the sixth and seventh innings and the umpires tried to play through. Unable to grip the ball, Sam Hentges loaded the bases on a single and two walks. Pitching coach Carl Willis made a mound visit, during which the grounds crew decided to use a drying agent on the already-soaked mound and infield. Finally, according to Tom Hamilton, Willis had enough and waved the fielders in, whereupon the umpires called for the tarp.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 629 games at .511 ball, or game 136 of 2026. They need 642 games at .500 ball, or game 149 of 2026.

Game 18,981 (9/27) TB 6, Cle 5 (11) - 322
Shane Bieber, Trevor Stephan and the Guardians offense all stumbled in this loss.
Bieber allowed four runs on six hits in six innings. Four hits and all four runs came in the fourth as Tampa Bay took a 4-1 lead.
Stephan was inconsistent in the eleventh, allowing a walk, a wild pitch, a stolen base and finally the two-out, two-run double to former Indian Harold Ramirez for the winning runs.
The offense outhit Tampa Bay 14 to 7 but wasted a good game by going 4-for-18 with runners in scoring position.
In between Tampa Bay's scoring in the fourth and eleventh, Guardian pitchers retired 21 straight batters. Enyel De Los Santos threw an immaculate inning in the seventh. Former Indian Corey Kluber started for the Rays, allowing three runs on eight hits in four innings.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 630 games at .511 ball, or game 136 of 2026. They need 644 games at .500 ball, or game 150 of 2026.

Game 18,980 (9/25) Cle 10, Tex 4 - 322
Steven Kwan's eighth inning grand slam was the icing on the celebration as the Guardians clinched the division.
Cleveland scored four in the third in typical fashion - four singles and a throwing error. They added two in the sixth on Gabriel Arias' triple. Kwan finished 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBI.
To reach 10,000 wins, the Guardians need 630 games at .511 ball, or game 135 of 2026. They need 644 games at .500 ball, or game 149 of 2026.
