How it looked before I inherited it. My Papaw used it as his "Junk Yard" for his construction company equipment.

2016-2018 - All cleared out! Played with buckets, containers, and guttering systems for a few seasons before going for it! Learned that the gravel goes far deeper than expected, so above ground was agreed to be the best idea.

2019 - First four stock tanks added. Learned a lot about container gardening this season, good and bad. Happy with the move forward, and ready to take on more!

2020 - This was during the (first?) quarantine. I had a very bored Father and me with extra time and money, so we used it to build four large container gardens to add to the garden. I also added a stumpery to the back fence.

2021 - The third season I was very limited on time due to work, but I did manage to get another small tank added to the back, some landscaping done around the tanks, and a major plan to go forward next year! Baby steps lead to marathons! ------ Here is this season's addition to my 'Adventures in White Trash Gardening', as I like to call it. I am not a rich person, never have been, never will be. I work retail for barely enough to get by, as a lot of people do in this town. A lot of "lower class" people feel like they can't garden, because it is too expensive. I save my pennies ALL Winter to go broke in the Spring, just to take baby steps toward a dream. Trust me, even if it takes you years, there are ways to rig the system to your advantage. You don't need a landscaper. You don't have to buy trendy pots from upscale nurseries. Use trash, use scrap, use equipment and parts from something else. It may work or it may not. Learn from it. Move slow, move fast when you can, just stay afloat. Evolve for next season. Don't let anyone tell you how to garden. How it should look. It's your garden, not a magazine cover for the masses. Make it yours. Chase your dopamine!

Pictures from my Indiana garden (July 2021). The insects are a little late to the game this year, because we have had a very mild and rainy season. Weather changes equal schedule changes. Glad to walk out today and see everyone finally arrive.

Fanfiction Club: The Rules

This idea came to me when I woke up first thing this morning.

May I add ‘Love Your Garden”. The nicest group of people go in and fix the most deserving people’s backyards into gorgeous gardens. Not only is it a feel good show, they also give you so much information about the plants and garden that you learn everything you need to know about gardening and you don’t feel like you have sat through class. Alan Titchmarsh is full of Dad puns. The girls make the most beautiful creations. Even the “tough” carpenter is a sweetheart.

This is Charlie, my Echinopsis oxygona (Easter Lily Cactus, Hedge Hogs). She is in the middle of her siblings, Chuck and Charles (whom is blooming too). She bloomed over the last week for the first time. Here is the evolution of it’s blooming. It started with little “wool balls” that grew into “long hairy alien legs”, then into beautiful huge white flowers in the night. I am super excited!

I am ratting my store out, but I work for a retail store and we have to change our window out every month. I scrape up $10 or less and do a WHOLE clothing window with stuff we get from the Dollar Tree and we ALWAYS have the cutest lingerie windows for every season. I learned this by practically living off Dollar Tree for years when I was too broke to afford anything. Love that place!

Listen. I want to tell you guys about the Dollar Tree. If you ever need to rebuild your life fast, you want a dollar tree. Everything in a dollar tree costs one dollar. No exceptions. Nothing has a price tag. Everything is one dollar. 

This is Dollar Tree not Dollar General. 

Dollar Tree looks like this: 

Their stuff is off-brand but decent quality.  

Here are some things you can buy at the dollar tree for one dollar: 

- any kind of makeup- foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, etc

- socks

- Sports bras (sometimes) 

- combs, brushes, hairclips, scrunchies, hair ties, headbands

- clothes hangers, laundry bags, mothballs

- any kind of office supplies or school supplies. Staplers, pencils, posterboard, pencils, pens, etc. 

- party supplies including paper plates and balloons

- all kinds of toiletries- shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, washcloths, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, nailclippers, etc. Decent sizes, too. 

- ceramic/glass plates, bowls, cups

- reading glasses, sunglasses

- plastic buckets

- cleaning supplies, detergent, bleach, laundry syrup, fabric softener, dish soap, sponges. brooms 

- electronics, headphones, night lights, phone chargers, batteries, screen cleaners, phone cases

Basically? If you ever get kicked out of your house or find yourself with a couple bucks and nothing else, get thee to a dollar tree.

For some reason a bird speaking Japanese is mildly off putting.
