Act like Megalochelys atlas and smile, because it’s Fossil Friday! One of the largest known land turtles, scientists think this massive reptile could reach heights of 5.9 ft (1.8 m)—tall enough to look a grown human in the eye. This specimen’s shell measures some 7.4 ft (2.3 m) long and in life, it may have weighed more than 2,000 lbs (907 kg). Megalochelys lived during the Late Pliocene about 2 million years ago. The fossil on display in the Museum’s Hall of Vertebrate Origins was found in 1922 in Chandigarh, India.

Thom Yorke's (non)statement on where he stands with Gaza/Israel.
"Yes, Netanyahu is a bad guy. But 'Free Palestine'? Really? Come on, guys! Let's be serious." Fucking hardcore loser shit from one of my faves. What an ass.

Can't stop thinking about this post I saw a couple days ago that was proposing this kind of... sanitation work jury duty, where everyone would just be garbage men for one day a year because no one should have to work with garbage as their actual job.
I can't help but think about:
A) How much training it probably takes to even be able to operate a garbage truck, much less all the safety stuff in case someone decided to dispose of their used needles or broken glass or whatnot in a standard garbage bin. I get stressed out driving my silly little sedan. I don't want to think about how much of a hazard I'd be to myself and everyone around me on my 'garbage collector day.'
B) The number of specialists it takes to even make a place for the garbage to go. Like. You need so much stuff, so many specialists, just to make sure water runoff from the landfill isn't contaminating the groundwater. It's not a one and done thing, and that's a tiny almost tangential part of dealing with garbage.
C) That some people actually do want to work in sanitation, and that part of the point of a society is that you can trade around jobs to make things easier for everyone.
I don't know, it's like people only look at the very surface layer of something, and think that's all there is to it, or that there's only the part that they, personally, participate in.

I get comments about wishing homes weren't in Ohio, but I'm a librarian and this is epic- I don't care where it is, and have nothing against Ohio, anyway. I never expected the interior of this home. It's a 2022 Duplex in Columbus, OH that is currently an Airbnb. 8bds, 6ba, 4,536sqft, accommodates 24 guests. Recently reduced $10k to $1.689m. And, b/c it's an Airbnb it comes completely furnished, 7,000+ books and all!

Welcome to The Book House. It was constructed to look like a 100yr. old building, even though it's only 3yrs. old.

Just look at this sitting room. All of those hardcover books come with it. I must say that the furnishings are superb. I wouldn't rent this out, I would live here.
Tumblr media
This is incredible. Designers buy old books by the foot when they're doing something like this and they're strictly for display. (Well, I guess you could read them, if you want.)
Tumblr media
Whoever built this to look old did a great job.

Just look at this kitchen.

The cabinetry. I actually feel sick, b/c I could never afford this.

Love the tile and hardware.

Look at how they did this doorway.

The patios have different features, like the one on the left has a big firepit. There's a 2 bay garage, too.

This cute ivy arbor over the garage.

The güiña, also known as the kodkod, is the smallest wild cat species native to the Americas.
It is a small, terrestrial predator found primarily in central and southern Chile, and also marginally in parts of Argentina.
The güiña is classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to threats like persecution, habitat loss, and prey base reduction.

Richard Beymer, who portrayed Benjamin Horne in Twin Peaks, captured a remarkable series of behind the scenes photographs during the filming of the show’s original finale in 1991. With David Lynch’s permission, Beymer used his Olympus camera to document the final days on set, particularly in the iconic Black Lodge. These candid black and white images offer a rare glimpse into the atmosphere and camaraderie among the cast and crew during the show’s concluding moments.
