Examples of Protective Hair Coverings
I had to scroll through unreasonable amounts of white people for this. Oh, Google.

Loc Socks

Okay, I admit. I've been using loc sock and loc bonnet interchangeably bc I've worn both and I know what I mean, but I cannot do that anymore.
Different styles will require different night time protective care! If your Black character has a silk press, she may choose to wrap her hair in a scarf. If they've got long locs or braids, a long silk bonnet will be better. A teeny weeny afro? A short bonnet will suffice, or they might even go bare. These are far from the only methods! We have oodles of options on how we maintain specific styles. Black hair care requires effort! Research and pick one!

Scary imposing extremely strong and/or powerful character A x character B who has them on the worlds tightest leash just by lifting a finger because of how devoted character A is to them. Bonus points if all the while character A could break character B in two with little effort
Bonus BONUS points if B is secretly insanely powerful as well but simply never has to show it bc of their dutiful guard dog ❤️

Okay I JUST realized I never posted these on here—- BUT BASICALLY, about a year and a half ago I started doing these experimental black hairstyle posts that were threads long on Twitter, to give artists a source of inspo for their black ocs whose hair they wanted to try something new with! There’s more to black hair than just the selected styles portrayed in media, and I thought it would be fun to show people how much texture, shape, fades, length, and style can be combined when drawing black hair—-cause it’s a kind of manipulation our hair can do irl! The OG posts were lost with the hacking of my original Twitter account (@/bagels_donuts) but I’ve since reuploaded the whole thread to my new Twitter (@/ItsDonutsFR)! I hope artists on tumblr find these useful, sorry it took me so long to post them here😭🙏🏾 I’ll upload them all in parts!

Part 1: Long masc hairstyles + playing with fades

You probably get asked this a lot, but how do you draw hands? Even when I'm tracing, they look so weird 🙃
I could probably go on and on and on about hands, but here are some key points I compiled! I LOVE drawing hands, and I never hesitate to use my own as a reference

regarding the website thing ☝️ https://htmlforpeople.com/ was a decent starting point and i really reccommend this video for getting the hang of css, though i would say to ignore the "float" chapter and look up how to use flexbox instead for the sake of accessibility and also personally finding it easier
neocities is a pretty good site to host things and they also have a verrrry basic tutorial if you really dont know what youre doing
as an extra this site has a bunch of hex color codes and this is the contrast checker i use
will look into this in a bit thank youu {^'''^}

being a self-taught artist with no formal training is having done art seriously since you were a young teenager and only finding out that you’re supposed to do warm up sketches every time you’re about to work on serious art when you’re fuckin twenty-five

I was asked by a friend yesterday if I could offer basic tips about comic paneling. As it turns out, I have a lot to say on the matter! I tried breaking down the art of paneling using the principles of art and design, and I hope it helps you out!
EDIT: uh uh there are a lot of people reblogging this, so i figure i may as well append this now while i can lol
This whole thing was very much cranked out in a few hours so I had a visual to talk about with a friend! If this gives you a base understanding of paneling, that's awesome! Continue to pull in studies from the comics you see and what other artists do well and don't do well! You can tell paneling is doing well when the action is flowing around in its intended reading format.
Here's the link to the globalcomix article from which I pulled the images about panel staggering! Someone sent in a reblog that it wasn't totally clear that the 7th slide mostly covers what NOT to do in regards to staggering, and that is my mistake!
I saw in a tag that someone was surprised I used MamaYuyu too, and I don't blame them lol. If I had given myself more than a couple hours maybe I would have added something else on, I just really admire MamaYuyu's paneling personally.
uh uh, final append: I am by no means a renowned master of paneling, so if you find anything off base here, by all means, counter it with your own knowledge and ways you can build upon from here! Art is always a sum knowledge of everything we find. 💪

You mentioned that you boarded the pilot before scripting it, and I’m curious about how that would work - were the boards based on an outline full of placeholders like (Aika joyfully narrates as she walks to school), or did you just kinda do it based on vibes, or something else entirely?
I feverishly wrote the entire thing in my notes app one night LOL. The scripts I'm talking about are the ones I did post-storyboard to distribute to the actors! But I was going off of my notes when boarding and kinda editing as I went
Haven't touched these notes since I wrote them so you can kinda see what changed and stayed (and all my typos haha)
And here's the first draft of the script! This one was not quite final. I think I did one more pass before sending it to the actors

So! In looking for more resources on Black hair, I found this amazing, simplified explanation for afros, locs, braids, and twists!! Everyone thank "Daisy E" for their contribution to diversity and inclusion within the art space!
It's far past time to draw our Black characters with our hairstyles and natural hair textures. Please take the time to look, and practice!
