hey!
I’m starting my PhD program on monday and i’m really excited. I’m a little nervous about making friends because a social life is going to be really important to me throughout this program. even if it’s just one good friend, i think it’s important to have someone you can relax with to keep you sane through things.
cheers to everyone starting school! i hope you have a great semester and make lots of memories!

hello :)
long time no talk, life has been crazy. i started my third year at uni and i am almost halfway done with the semester. classes have been going really really well and i am very happy with my grades so far.
i also started working in a research lab under one of the p-chem professors! i really enjoy research so far, it’s very fulfilling. i’ve been kept super busy between classes, research, and my chemistry fraternity.
i have some fun little weekend trips planned over the next few months that im really excited for and i think that will help keep me from getting burned out. next weekend my boyfriend and i are driving to atlanta for a concert :) we’re also going to go to the georgia aquarium! im beyond excited.
i think my mood has been a lot better since the weather changed. it’s been much cooler since the hurricane. it’s honestly been gorgeous everyday.
enjoy a pic from my lab station and the state park i went to the other day <3

11.22.21 | feeling a bit under the weather today but that can't stop me from reviewing orgo for the final coming up. Even though i feel sick I find thta i am still able to to do work it's just that the normal pomodoro method doesn't work because I can only concentrate for short periods of time and need longer breaks...

11.14.21 | first pic is just a nice little highlight of my weekend. I walked down the nature trail to brunch near my future apartment and I just loved the way the trees looked. In the second photo is my tiny little desk at uni in my dorm. It is in no way, shape, or form an "aesthetic" study space. In all honesty, it's way too small for my needs so I only really sit here if I'm doing anything for fun; I can't get an ounce of work done here.

Book review: From Here To Eternity
Tumblr media
Written by Catlin Doughty, a mortician, this book explores the different death practices and customs from numerous cultures all over the world. As someone who takes particular interest in the macabre, I found this to be a real page turner. Doughty does an excellent job going into detailed, first person accounts of the practices without tainting with typical western beliefs. She helps guide you along the journey with her, holding your hand as you expand your ideas of what it could mean to grieve. I am now currently reading her other book, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, and I am loving it so far.
She also has a youtube channel where she answers lots of questions from viewers and does all-things-death! Click here to go check out her channel!

11.12.21 | woke up early this morning to go to the science library to rewrite some notes for orgo before class later this afternoon. I have thoroughly been enjoying coming to the library in the early mornings to get work done. There’s just something about knowing that I get to start my day before the morning rush occurs that gets me motivated to study. What motivates you?

Darkly academic research ideas for your time indoors (because you're not a heathen):
The lives of great classical composers.
Ancient Egypt's social hierarchy and attitudes towards women, homosexuality etc.
Poisons.
The tea trade, and how it became so important to British culture.
18th century fashion and the production of clothing.
How corsets aren't the terrible patriarchal torture devices everyone thinks they are.
The use of recreational drugs in the late 19th century.
The French revolution.
Methods of forensic investigation at crime scenes.
Controversy in psychological studies.
Matriarchal societies.
How nostalgia influences fashion, media, and literature.
The nature versus nurture argument.
The history of trains and railroads.
Symbolism in art.
Just a few research rabbit holes to throw yourself into if you're bored. :)

Wow.
I started this blog back in my freshman year of highschool and I haven’t logged on to tumblr or this blog in a fat minute. I am now currently a freshman in uni. I just got an apartment with my amazing boyfriend all on my own, I start at my new job next week, I just started fall semester online this past Monday, and I can completely financially support myself and have so much money in scholarships that I get to pocket some of it.  Things are looking up. I am really happy for the first time in a really long time.
That being said, if I have some free time i might be designing some organizational stuff and posting here since I like to mess with graphic design.
^~^ <3 toodles
