When Lukey was being tested on by the Keepers begging is the one thing he definitely would have done at some point. For mercy, for freedom, for the right to choose the basic decisions of his life. The feeling of being helpless isn't something new to him. He learned to barter with his dignity if it meant keeping even a sliver of control.

Be it to Keepers standing behind the test tubes or Ros or Sneeg or Pili trying to kill him as part of a cycle of violence he never asked to part of. Do you think when Ace asked Lukey to "beg for it" - it flashed a memory of the Keepers - of Alpha possibly asking him the same thing. Asking for his submission. Of being small, being helpless.

But now he remembers - everything the good the bad the ugly. The pain but also the defiance. The years spent unseen, the agony of being a pawn, a labrat, a joke — and the slow, deliberate climb back into usefulness, into autonomy. He's his own person, he's needed, he's useful. So it makes complete sense that when Ace asks him to beg for it , he says no. Never again.

All his life Lukey had been denied agency and autonomy to make his own decisions. So him saying he'd rather die of natural causes makes perfect sense. Not ripped from the world by someone, not begging at someone’s feet. He wants to live not forever, not immortal but on his own terms. Because if Life didn't grant him the freedom of choice - maybe just maybe - death might be merciful enough to.
