The War on Drugs - "Baby Missles"
The War on Drugs is back, but without Kurt Vile. Sounds like they're doing just fine without him, if not, better. "Baby Missles" is off their forthcoming LP on Secret Canadian. Check out "Comin' Through" below, which was featured in our top CT's of 2010 list.

California Wives - "Tokyo"
California Wives are not from California, they are from Chicago. Not surprising. They've got this dreamy song that is catchy as fuck called "Tokyo" that fits in very well with alot of the music coming out these days. Check out more of their stuff on their Page. I suppose we should expect an album from this new wave of new wave tunes.

Family Portrait - "Other Side"
The Ridgewood, New Jersey band, Family Portrait, hails from the same city as Real Estate, and Ducktails. Listening to "Other Side" is like traveling through a time machine with an open bar, to 2004-2006. Not much info on any upcoming releases but I can only assume this isn't the last time we'll hear from Family Portrait. Snag the mp3 below.

Porcelain Raft - "The Wall" (Yuck Cover)
London's Porcelain Raft covers "The Wall" by London's Yuck. It's a noisy, reverb drenched cover of the lo-fi song that is on Yucks debut album released in February. The second half gets even noisier, but everything about this makes it a great cover. From the heavy reverbed vocals, echo-y hand claps and spacey synth leads. It's been completely transormed. You can catch this cover, along with a Porcelain Raft cover by Yuck on an upcoming split 7".

Craft Spells - "Party Talk"
Craft Spells are from Stockton, California. "Party Talk" has all the great features of any good lo-fi indie band. From the swaying vocals in the background to the lead vocals that sound like mere voices. But, what sets this apart from all the other lo-fi bands is the drum beat, that danceable rythym is something unheard of. It's an uplifting feeling for the lo-fi music genre, taking it to newer heights. Craft Spells are expected to release an album sometime in the near future on Captured Tracks. For now, here's "Party Talk."

Yuck - "Suicide Policeman"
If it's your first time listening to "Suicide Policeman," by Yuck, then we have a major problem. Their debut album which was released recently, is full of straight forward, catchy music, but there's nothing better than discovering more great songs aside from the singles we've already heard. That's where "Suicide Policeman" comes in. It's the fifth track on the album. The song begins like a Brand New acoustic ballad, but surprises you when the drum and bass kick in at about 30 seconds in. The full band jumps in soon after and really makes "Suicide Policeman" one of the greatest songs of the year. There's nothing groundbreaking about this track. It's a simple song, heavily influenced by catchy 90's indie rock. You can find this track on Yuck's self-titled debut album on Fat Possum.

Dirty Beaches - "True Blue"
Sorry for the dark period in Crack Tracks. We were busy listening to all kinds of out of date hip hop but we're back with new photos and music! We're going to begin this CT revival with a song by Dirty Beaches. It to, sounds out of date, but it will be on an upcoming album in a couple weeks. "True Blue" sounds like it was dug out of the 50's rock archive. It has that catchy swaying falsetto vocals that left a trademark for the 50's generation. Badlands will drop March 9 on Zoo Music just for your nostalgic ears.

Beach Fossils - "What a Pleasure"
Here's another cut from Crack Tracks most anticipated winter release. "What a Pleasure" starts off just like the last song we heard from them, and many Beach Fossils songs. A guitar lead, followed by a simple sharp drum beat and soft vocals to complete the intro. Then a melody comes out of nowhere, and he leaves you with, "I'll take it all away," and he's not lying. For the rest of the song you never hear that melody again. All you get is the guitar and drums dancing around each other with the occasional, "I'll take it all away," leaving you with the repeat button. "What A Pleasure" will have you wanting more. What a Pleasure EP will be out next week, February 22 on Captured Tracks. It will also include a track featuring Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing titled, "Out in the Way". Listen to both tracks and other Beach Fossils songs below.
Listen (songs on the What a Pleasure EP):
Beach Fossils - "What a Pleasure"
Beach Fossils – "Face It"
Beach Fossils - “Calyer”
Beach Fossils - "Out in the Way" (Feat. Jack Tatum)
Back Track:
Beach Fossils – "Daydream"
Beach Fossils – “Golden Age”
Beach Fossils – “Youth”

The Strokes - "Under Cover Of Darkness"
"Under Cover Of Darkness" is the brand new single for the Strokes highly anticipated, comeback album. It's what you wanted to hear on First Impressions of Earth. The chorus is extremely catchy. It grows on you when Julian Casablancas sings, "don't go that way/ I'll wait for you." It's just asking for some radio play, and that's not bad at all. I mean, what did you really expect from The Strokes? Their album, Angles, will be out March 22.

Back Track: The Strokes - "I'll Try Anything Once"

Arches - "This Isn't A Good Night For Walking"
The New Jersey duo Arches sounds like what I imagine Grizzly Bear would sound like if they were ten years younger. "This Isn't a Good Night For Walking," takes reverb to another level, as if recorded in a European cathedral. It's a pretty lengthy song with a little over 6 minutes of time, but it's worth every minute. Best heard in a car, turned all the way up with the windows down on a cloudy, windy day. This track will be on an LP, to be released sometime this summer.

Women - "Bullfight"
The last news of this band is about their onstage break up in Canada. Is it ironic that their band name totally suites that story. I'm not sure if the men in this band are back together or not but I do have this track for you, which was released on a limited split 7". Only time will tell if these men, aka Women, will make more music together but for now here's "Bullfight."

Toro Y Moi - "New Beat"
"New Beat" leaked into the internet over the weekend so Carpark decided to just go with it, and now we have a new song by the rising Toro Y Moi. "New Beat" shows Chaz Bundick diving deeper into the groovy, funky, 70's sound we heard in "Still Sound." Both tracks will be on his upcoming album, Underneath The Pine, on Carpark, dropping Feb. 22.

The Babies - "Wild II"
Here's the second part to The Wilds. Like the first one, it starts slow, except the chorus here really lifts the song up from where it was left off with "Wild I," and brightens both parts of The Wilds. You can also catch both songs, along with "Run Me Over" on their upcoming self-titled debut album out Feb. 11 on Shrimper.
