sanded and ready for stain!!

I was very nervous about the router after reading a million warnings about them, but (with secure clamps, PPE, and plenty of caution) it was fine! not super even in spots but it will be hidden anyways! Chiseling out the corners was more of a pain tbh.. next time I am trying miters

back at it again, feat. my estate sale collection of corner clamps
I am attempting to make picture frames! My spouse has a set of prints that are an odd size, so they're currently just in storage. Plus I figure it might be an easier project to break in my router :)
so far: started with 3/4" square dowels, cut to size with a miter saw, then cut half laps with my circular saw + chisel.. then sanded and tweaked until they fit together.. far from perfect, but should be Good Enough certainly from a wall-viewing distance

Ridiculously excited to share what I’m up to for my internship. I’m working for the Lithuanian Folk Art Institute and part of what I’m working on is making samples and tutorials to educate people on traditional sash weaving which is hands down the most significant piece of Lithuanian folk art.
This one is tablet woven, although I modified a pick-up pattern (source: Days of Yore - exhibition. Merkinė, county of Alytus, 1935) to work with it. The borders still have four strings per tablet but the pattern portion in the center only has two. I have a wool warp and I’m thrilled that I managed to get some linen from Lithuania for the weft.

This is 100% socks.
Ok, and some string for the warp.
Here’s how:
1. Collect approximately 100 old socks (next time I will count them). This is easier than you might think. Most of these are just from asking family, and also a stint cleaning student lodgings at the end of the year.
2. Wash them. Please.
3. Cut them into loops, ignoring the cuff, toe and heel. Stretch each loop.

4. Loop the loops together to make a mahoosive ball of yarn. I made shorter, colour-themed segments first, then chose an order, then joined all the shorter strips.

5. Weave on a peg loom.

I am so bad at posting here consistently but I feel like Tumblr would appreciate my best friend Fishbag (and the various creatures that live within her)

I finished the vest 🤡 despite having mountains of work to do! like I said. I should abstain from knitting. It's heroin to me.

Pattern is my own. I marled three strands of heavy lace weight lambswool together, and I used eight colours, every colour way is solid. The stripes and gradients are planned and achieved through changing only one strand's colour at a time.
While marling created the same stitch gauge and weight as DK, my row gauge is 34 per 10 cm instead of the typical 28 rows (or less!) that DK weight yarns knit up to. The untwisted strands 'flattened' the stitches and made them shorter, which I find very fun to design for.

Well my loves, it appears as though the answer to "Can the Big Pattern Company (Simplicity/Burda/McCalls/ect.) survive the death of JoAnn?" has come.
The answer is no. No it cannot. It has been sold to a liquidator just like JoAnns was.
So if there is ANYTHING you want I suggest you get it now. simplicity.com is currently having a pattern sale and I snatched up some that might be useful for cosplay purposes.
I am very glad these last couple of years I have built up my collection.

last year I turned a textile I weaved into a bag, using leather and the least complex model I could and then hand-sewing the whole frigging thing.
I think I'll do more of there when I'll finally have my own 8 shaft loom and I won't have to rely on the municipal school to use one.

Finally finished knitting my dress! (OK, technically I finished the knitting last week, but only got my act together, sewing in the reinforcement tape, yesterday.) It fits perfectly and I'm so pleased with it.
This took about three weeks to knit, from my own design, developing a pattern as I worked. Lots of measurements and calculations, but it turns out it's true: when you knit a tension square and determine stitches per inch, you really can make something that matches your size perfectly! Who knew?
Yarn: Yarnsmiths Merino DK, worked on 4mm needles, entirely in the round until the underarm.
Colours:
Magenta
Just Purple
Royal Blue
Dark Turquoise
Light Turquoise
Seafoam
Bright Green
Lime Green
Primrose Yellow
Sunshine Yellow
Tangerine
Fandango Pink
Bright Pink
Bubblegum
Candyfloss
