What differentiates a good any kind of thing from a great thing? I believe is the impact that creates in ourselves. From feeling something to caring about that something.
How then someone creates a good feeling in someone else? By caring about him, by being empathetic and by creating something with heart. Brands work the same. As Bernadette Jiwa said, those that create ¨things, experiences, connection, moments and stories that change us¨ are the ones who have to privilege to be loved back.

If before we were defined by hierarchies, that was defined by birth, today we´re living in a time where we are defined by achievement. But this is a false self.

It´s not quite true to call human beings herd creatures. But we incessantly construct meaning in terms of communal identity; we think in sets and groups.

PRIYA AHLUWALIA
Rich cultural references, a good eye for knit patterns, a nostalgic approach to streetwear, and a will to make a difference.
The London-born designer Priya Ahluwalia encapsulates brilliantly her Nigerian-Indian heritage and her socially-conscious approach to design into her label.
Using second-hand clothes and discarded textiles isn´t new to the fashion industry, especially for the new coming talents, but there´s something about her ambition of going into this direction.
After traveling to Nigeria and India, she launched a book together with her collection. Seeing those places affected by the second-hand industry, as she shares it with Dazed magazine ´´was the catalyst for her final collection¨.
Her forward-thinking approach served as a starting point for her take-off. She won last year the H&M design award and made a collaboration with Adidas on the SC Supercourt trainers.
There´s a soulfulness to her work, in that of being able to contribute to a collectively effort. What she is trying to tackle is very important to me, and I´m thrilled to see more her goodly determination.

Renew Denim by Converse
We are all witnessing how several big players from the fashion industry finally started to reconfigure their way of doing stuff. Or maybe partially, for now. Converse is one of them. For their Renew Denim Collection, Converse used up-cycled denim offcuts, recycled polyester from plastic bottles, and cotton blends.
A quick browse of their Renew Denim Chuck 70s, and we can quickly understand why combining aesthetics with sustainable practices, means taking their products to another level. It means updating a model that´s been around for over 100 years, in tune with the new savvy consumer.
But it also means taking the narrative around sustainability to a bigger, mainstream following, and hopefully, contribute to the shift of mindset.
