i wonder if holding onto rumi teleports people along with her...? because if yes imagine the chaos potential
also if she's tired or stressed or emotional, her teleportation won't work right. not in the sense that she spliches herself harry potter-style, but more so that she ends up in subconscious and unexpected locations.
dead tired but trying to teleport to dance practice to run the choreo again? she ends up on her bed in her room.
feeling lonely but wanting to be sad and tortured aesthetically by teleporting to idk jeju or paris? she ends up teleporting onto the couch where mira and zoey are watching a k-drama waiting for rumi to finish moping.
missing her mother but refusing to admit it, and trying to teleport to miyeong's grave? she ends up teleporting onto celine's dining table crouched like spider-man instead. celine was minding her own business with a glass of makgeolli and eating kimchi-jjigae btw
at a certain point rumi gets convinced this is the honmoon's doing to save her from herself. and best believe mira and zoey never let her live it down that the honmoon has to literally drag her around for the sake of her emotional stability.
(btw i am very firmly in the camp that celine was not an evil villain, she was truly doing her best. and also that they slowly reconcile after canon and celine really does put the work in to mend their relationship because rumi asking her to do That really was a wake-up call)
after the first two times celine starts expecting rumi. like she doesn't even react any more, just sighs with fond exasperation. rumi acts like she's over it but secretly it's nice to try and mope alone but end up getting a hug from celine or similar. and rumi also gets comfortable doing this like she teleports back to celine's compound for a hug and then back to work. or she's having a lunch break during a solo schedule? she teleports back home to eat lunch with mira and zoey, disappears from set but somehow appears ten minutes early to her next cue.
when she's happy and relaxed, the teleportation works right. and the more she does it, the better she gets. it's easiest within korea where the honmoon is strongest, but if she concentrates and is well-rested (and rests a little after) she can go further.
huntr/x cryptid lore is now trying to dissect how they seemingly went from a livestream in what looked like their penthouse in seoul to posting an instagram story in burbank (zoey was homesick) in less than a day. rational fans call it the magic of delayed posting for the idols' safeties. the conspiracy theorists call it proof that something is Not Quite Right With This Group But Their Music Is Too Good.
Thinking again about Rumi's confrontation with Celine and while there is nothing remotely funny about it, I keep thinking about how she just teleports away after dropping that line about destroying the Honmoon, and it's like- girl just got the ultimate way to have the last word in an argument.
Mira: Okay you have been running yourself ragged with this comeback press tour. You need to sleep.
Rumi, still standing by sheer force of will and the grace of Hunters past alone: Mira, I'm fine.
Zoey: You really don't look fine. Maybe just a quick catnap?
Rumi: NOPE! *teleports away*

yup!! there's so much content online with documentaries, thinkpieces and articles. katseye's documentary (i'm a fan, but also like objectively) is a very good look at a western spin on the method. but in the west or just outside of asian boy groups/girl groups, artist development isn't really a thing any more :,) so you're right that your friend was very lucky to get into studio-type training
i'm interested in the music industry, so i'm still not an expert but i can kind of TLDR it. the k-pop methodology is basically:
you audition when a call comes out, either in-person or online (especially pre-COVID some companies held weekly auditions, i'm not sure if they still do now) OR you get scouted by the company. some idols get street-casted, like literally on the streets and sometimes outside their schools (the scout liked their visual or saw some type of X-factor). others get casted through prominence in other areas (karina from aespa was a social media star, sunghoon from enhypen was an elite figure skater).
if you accept the offer, you become a trainee at a company. they cover literally everything – how to carry yourself, how to take selfies, media training, and of course performance (singing and dancing, and both at the same time). yuna from itzy said she couldn't dance at all when she was scouted but like look at her now (i stan itzy as well as aespa). they really do work very hard and this is where some of the dark side comes – they train relentlessly (again, you can look at the katseye documentary. they didn't work any less hard, but the program was modified for a western group) sometimes to the point of injury. also dieting. typically k-pop companies accept trainees only under 18 so a lot of them are still in school and studying.
you might or might not debut... some companies hold training debt where you have to pay them back whatever they spent on your artist development. as far as i know, hybe (a kpop company) doesn't practice trainee debt at all and to be honest a lot of other large companies won't. i've heard people online say that jyp (another kpop company) only holds training debt if you debut, where initial profit goes towards recouping their investment then once it's recouped you get paid your full share.
you debut after a training period that can be anywhere from months to years. like YEARS as in some idols i follow had a 7-year training period. and debut itself is dependent on the company and the vision they have for the group and whether you match that. again, katseye's documentary gives an interesting peek into this (although their process is slightly different due to being a survival (elimination) show rather than a closed debut like traditional k-pop groups).
quite different compared to most music industries esp in the west where they pick up established artists. like d4vd signed with interscope only after his success with here with me or conan gray... an artist like sombr who had his first release already backed by warner is increasingly rare :,)
back to xlov's training center – all this training is typically done in-house by the companies themselves. so they're a bit like a performance school and record label and manager all in one with rules that can be very strict. the training center i mentioned isn't actually a k-pop company, but rather solely focused on training potential idols that then audition or are pitched to various companies. jumping companies is also quite common and why a lot of idols know each other predebut – e.g. katseye's yoonchae trained at wakeone before joining dream academy in the U.S.
i have too much to say about the music industry as a musician actually 😭
hello i found you in the kpdh tag and was scrolling thru (can you tell by my 201473284 reblogs haha) and you mentioned kpop slave contracts and. i googled it and. WHAT. WHAT. ive heard in passing about some not great stuff in the idol industry but thats just, mind blowing in the worst way. D:
hello!! yes i saw LOL
slave contracts are one of the worst parts of the industry tbh… of course do your own research, i’m by no means an expert. what i do know is that kpop contracts used to be indefinite lengths of time until recent legislation limited it to 7 years per contract. which is why every so often groups will go through contract renewal negotiations with their agencies and it’s always a big thing for fans. some idols will leave the agency and sign elsewhere as solo artists, but stick with their company for group activities (e.g. blackpink’s situation, one or two members of red velvet if i’m not wrong). i got into kpop way after all this so this is just stuff i looked up. the contracts can still be super restrictive in self-expression and work though, as seen in vcha kg’s signed contract with JYP America
as a kpop fan, i’m alw observing and hoping the industry evolves and grows into becoming more ethical! of course there’s a really long way to go and still shady things happening, but artists are actually getting paid from debut, at least in big companies (training debt is another huge thing and how artists can be super famous without ever earning much).
and i think we’re starting to see more artist self-expression and creative control + things outside the typical idol mold (hybe groups tend to have songwriters/producers, katseye are global and given a lot more freedom, qwer as a female band). even in training methods there are people trying to make changes – xlov graduated from a new training center that runs only after-school classes for minors so they don’t have to drop out, has no dating rules, and just a bunch of sane rules. so not great but getting better, from my pov as an international fan!

I have come up with a better metaphor than “you can’t pour from an empty cup” for burnout. You can’t boil an empty kettle. Pouring from an empty cup just gets you nowhere. Trying to boil an empty kettle can ruin the kettle, the stove, and burn down your house if you keep trying it.

of course huntr/x would be the group to schedule an actual full australian/NZ tour not just sydney & melbourne... the honmoon isn't going to maintain itself
Huntrix Australia Tour HC
So, I recently watched K-Pop Demon Hunters, and have since read a few headcanons and fan comics. Some talked about Huntrix visiting Zoey's home in the United States. So it got me thinking about how them touring my homeland would go.
This takes place post-film, on the Comeback tour shown in the last scene. Not necessarily Polytrix, but could work for that ship.
The tour would cover the Asia-Pacific region, including New Zealand and Australia. So here are some things I think would happen on the Austalian leg of this tour:
When planning, Zoey points out how big Australia actually is. They agree to do some of the big regional cities as well as the capitals. Zoey is especially keen to visit Cairns. Mira and Rumi realise this is because it's the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef - a natural maritime wonder. So they arrange to have a mid-tour break there for a few days, and Bobby arranges some diving, snorkeling and glass-bottomed boat tours. When it's all booked in, they surprise Zoey with the itinerary. Her face lights up and she's grinning for days afterwards.
The tour starts in Melbourne, before heading up the east coast of Australia. Rumi is not cold-blooded, even with her demon side. But she's essentially conditioned herself into something close to it, after years of wearing long hoodies in summer to cover her patterns. It's Spring when they arrive, and Melbourne is cold. Even with jumpers on, she's still shivering. This isn't a problem in the hotel, where she can turn the heater on. But on stage it's a different story. She manages to get through her performances and Bobby has people waiting in the wings with thick jackets and hot water bottles to warm her up.
In Sydney, they do a signing/meet-and-greet outside the Sydney Opera House. While preparing, Bobby is very insistent about them wearing sunscreen. This puzzles the girls, as they usually wear it as part of their skincare routine. He gives them stronger stuff than usual, and tells them that the sunlight is worse here. One of the local people helping out mentions Slip, Slop, Slap, which is the slogan Australian children are taught for sun safety. (Slip on a T-shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat.) Rumi and Mira don't quite get it. But that three-syllable alliteration sparks a lightbulb for Zoey. By the time they finish in Sydney and move onto Brisbane, Zoey's already got another song written.
Rumi runs into more trouble in Brisbane. The harsh Australian sunlight causes her patterns to itch. So she starts wearing light, long-sleeved tops to prevent it. Mira starts to worry about Rumi, she's covering her patterns again. She enlists Zoey, and the two of them stage an intervention on Rumi. They comfort her with hugs (mostly from Zoey) and she's baffled. But she listens to their concerns, and realises she's not explained it. Force of habit from when she was hiding her patterns. So she clears up the misconception. She's also touched that her friends were looking out for her like that - she's still getting used to being open about her patterns.
Next stop is Cairns, and the shows go well. They have their break afterwards. The girls can see Bobby is getting a bit frazzled, running a tour is hard work. They invite him to join them on their trips to the reef. He's not keen on swimming, but does join them on the glass-bottomed boat trip. Looking at the sea life and listening to Zoey talking about it, they understand her a bit more and can see why she's so keen on it.
On the plane from Cairns to Darwin, Zoey is full of gratitude and happiness, talking about how much she enjoyed it. Rumi and Mira are happy to see their Maknae happy.
When they reach Alice Springs, Mira finds herself drawn to the opals mined in the (relatively) nearby town of Coober Pedy, and the jewellery made from them. The colours in these gems remind her of the new rainbow Honmoon, and she buys quite a few of them. Earrings, necklaces and bracelets. She suggests incorporating some of them into their future outfits, as a way of honouring the rainbow Honmoon. Zoey and Rumi like the idea.
Tour goes well through Perth and Adelaide. Then they reach Hobart, which is further south and colder than Melbourne. Rumi's sensitivity to cold plays up again. But this time, Bobby is prepared. He's had a pocket sewn into the back of her stage costumes, on the inside. In these, a chemically-activated heat pack is placed to keep her warm while performing. It's functional and discreet.
After finishing in Hobart, they fly off to New Zealand for the next leg of the tour.

rumi looks into learning polyphia for this exact reason and oh no now her workaholic tendencies are directed somewhere else. like rumi is clearly enjoying herself but mira and zoey are Concerned™. fits with my hc of rumi enjoying fingerstyle guitar too and the next time this happens on an acoustic guitar somewhere else in the US rumi breaks out the intro of playing god
bonus points for rumi asking zoey (the american) for other extremely famous solos she can learn.
also the video of this goes viral until people point out that’s rumi from huntr/x and then it promptly breaks the internet and they end up slotting in a guitar solo for rumi to appease the fans bc happy fans happy honmoon
One time during an American tour the girls decide to be a little rebellious and sneak out to go out for drinks. They’re in LA so Zoey knows a spot off the main tourist area and despite being super famous they can hide in plain sight easier in North America than they can back home
There’s a live band playing when they get there and after a while (and a few drinks) the band takes a break. The lead vocalist/guitarist is a bit of a prick and decides to mansplain to Rumi of all people what it’s like being a big shot musician (he’s like…locally famous at best). They let him dig his grave for a bit before Rumi lets it slip she knows how to play “a little” and asks if she can try it out. He smugly lets her, thinking he was about to score a “good guy teaching the clueless girl” moment
Rumi plays a couple chords to get the feel right (and tunes the guitar for him). She then shreds the most badass, face-melting guitar rift before performing the entire guitar solo from Free Bird, knowing that would get the Americans in the crowd fired up. It did not take long for the rest of the guy’s band to back her up in finishing the song. Mira and Zoey cheer her on the whole way

if zoey either stops talking (alarm bells ringing already), one of them will ask about turtles. and if zoey still doesn't respond well to that? bobby straight up cancels their schedules.
not for the whole day because zoey got so upset last time and that's not very possible, but at least the current/next one to give her some breathing room. he tries to cancel for all members but mostly all they can get away with before they start being perceived as unprofessional is a break for zoey while mira and rumi still go out before zoey joins in later on (particularly useful during variety filmings that can drag on)
Imagen Zoey being diagnosed ADHD and autistic, but the only people who know are Rumi, Mira, and maybe Bobby.
She doesn't want to be public about it cause of the mental health stigma in Korea. But she has started considering it since the new honmoon has been created. Like maybe saying it subtly in a song or something.
Also Rumi, Mira, and bobby are very accommodating. And Mira is especially good at picking when Zoey is getting overstimulated.
When Zoey asked how, Mira replied with "You look like you want to murder some one."
(No, I'm not projecting)

this is just 3/6 of katseye. specifically, the ijbol line of lara, manon and megan
(for the non-eyekons, just look up any katseye interview or better yet the compilations of them clearly losing it especially when reading off stilted PR scripts 😭)
it would be even funnier if not only does nothing faze rumi, she actively can keep a poker face while dying inside laughing. like she will keep a poker face until the second they're out of sight and crack up so hard like pre-canon they don't really see rumi laugh that hard
the only time she ever cracks as leader and it's the aespa/aespo incident (link here, pls watch it's too good):
they're about to accept their idol awards (1 year post-canon)
rumi mispronounces huntr/x as something silly like huntrek
starts laughing and steps back which has NEVER HAPPENED
mira gets HALF a sentence out before she cracks up
zoey has to step up to finish the rest of the speech while the two of them crack up in the back and zoey is still smiling
celine wants to be upset but honestly it's a relatively harmless slip-up that fans find endearing and pulls in new fans with all the viral clips going around. plus i hc that one year out she and rumi are doing work to repair that relationship so all she does is text the huntr/x + celine group chat memes
(EDIT: the best part is that it's zoey, the american maknae, who has to finish the speech. especially since i hc zoey not being that fluent in korean as a trainee/during early debut days. similar to how the two koreans, karina and winter, in aespa cracked up with "aespo", made their chinese maknae ningning finish the speech and thank everyone in japanese, and their japanese rapper giselle thank the crowd in korean)
i think Zoey and Mira are the friends where if something funny happens and it's socially unacceptable to laugh, they CAN'T make eye contact or it's over
but it's not foolproof bc sometimes they just picture the other's face and start laughing anyway

When you've been a writer for long enough, commas become more of a spiritual practice than a grammatical one.
Could I explain the actual rules of how they’re used? Absolutely not.
Do I rely on sensing a tremor in the force to tell me where to use them? Yes and this has never failed me even once.
