The ocean, for me, is what LSD was to Timothy Leary. He claimed the hallucinogen is to reality what a microscope is to biology, affording a perception of reality that was not before accessible. Shamans and seekers eat mushrooms, drink potions, lick toads, inhale smoke, and snort snuff to transport their minds to realms they cannot normally experience. {...} In my scuba-induced altered state, I’m not in the grip of a drug: I am lucid in my immersion, voluntarily becoming part of what feels like the ocean’s own dream.
Sy Montgomery from her book The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness

Crasian's Visualization Training - I tell you what I've never been on a shorboard, just yet! so obviously the duck diving is an unknown territory for me... I found this video from Surf With Amigas and this girl Holly explains it really well. Here we go.

I have this nostalgic and romantic inclination towards longboard surfing while I often dream of one day shredding on shortboard... Oh well. Maybe try both!

Books: Crasian's Irrelevant Ranking
I don't really read books. Or rather I listen to audio books so that I can multi-task at times. I've been listening to some surf themed/related books as my constant attempt to familiarize myself with surf culture and its history while being completely outside of the whole scene. I am sure there are a plenty more materials that I will come across in the future but here is the irrelevant surf book ranking by the Crasian.
#1. Caught Inside by Daniel Duane - By far the best without a doubt.
Tumblr media
#2. Making Mavericks by Ian Spiegelman & Frosty Hesson
Tumblr media
#3. In Search of Captain Zero by Allan Weisbecker
Tumblr media
#4. The Fear Project by Jaimal Yogis
Tumblr media
#0. Tapping the Source by Kem Nunn - To be read...

Off to the land of Pura Vida.
So I’ve been having an honest-to-God craving for surfing again for almost an entire year since I came back from my life-altering trip to the North Shore of Hawaii where my long-awaited dream had finally come true. That bliss, a near-religious experience, of actually becoming one with the wave has never escaped me since. Even though I’ve tried taming my unruly desire for surfing by SUPing out on a small lake we live on this past summer and it did help, I still thirst for warm, blue, salty water with some waves in season on the Pacific coast. So! after bugging my boyfriend for many many months, we have finally set the dates and booked our flights to San Jose, Costa Rica. Our plan is to spend the first 2 nights in downtown San Jose, then on day 3 bright and early we will start heading down to Santa Teresa, a small village on the Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula where we will be calling it “home” during our 4 week stay. We only booked our accommodation in San Jose and the rest is up in the air. We trust that everything will work out and the spontaneity and serendipity will do their usual tricks leading us to some epic fun and learn.
