Applying for a job is normally a two-way street. The company looking for the right candidate and the applicant looking for the right job fit. However, some recruiters forget that both parties need to be happy with the partnership and tend to almost set up candidates for failure with unrealistic requirements in the job posting.
From demanding a decade of experience in a technology that has only been around for a couple of years, to requiring PhD level qualifications for an entry-level position, there is an unnecessary focus on arbitrary requirements. Two subreddits, ‘Recruiting Hell‘ and ‘Antiwork‘, highlight these job advertisements that are out of touch with reality and we’ve shared a few of their most ridiculous postings below.

Sewing lessons are mandatory for girls in my home country which, as a tomboy, irked me no end. However, it’s a skill that comes in handy occasionally when a quick darn can fix a small tear that may otherwise ruin a perfectly good item.
However, some folks have the amazing talent and skill to envision an end product that they can bring to life with a needle and some thread. These mind-blowing designs could almost compete with haute couture and deserve their spotlight in the r/sewing subreddit. Scroll below for an impressive collection of masterpieces that ordinary folks created with machine sewing, embroidery, quilting or hand sewing.

As a child growing up on farms, our family frequently travelled long distances and with two kids in the vehicle, it could get pretty loud. Constant requests from the parents to pipe down were thrown our way and left me thinking, I’ll never do that to a child and ruin their fun road trips. 30 years later, when my young nephew gives one shout in the vehicle I’m ready to get out and run away in fear of the almighty migraine that might set in as a result of being exposed to such a loud noise in an enclosed space.
Honestly, it feels like at some point a switch was flipped without our consent and the things that we used to enjoy just don’t feel that appealing anymore. There are so many similar things that we just can’t tolerate like we used to and Redditors recently got together to commiserate on the myriad things that are just not fun anymore and are in fact, borderline annoying.
#1 People. Honestly, they’re everywhere.

#2 Eating food that’s not delicious. And I don’t mean eating unhealthily. I mean, If I’m going to consume calories, it’s going to be delicious. Sometimes that means heating things up in the oven instead of microwave, or adding an extra ingredient that makes the dish.

This heat. I remember when I used to want to lay out, do beach activities, and swim. Now, I’m dreading having to go out in the sun and want to be locked away in my air-conditioned home

#5 Noise. Anyone or anything that is too loud.
#6 Convincing people not to do dumb s**t. Go ahead I don’t care anymore. Learn the hard way.
#7 BS excuses. Stop trying to make up elaborate, unbelievable stories. Just tell me you forgot, or you overslept, or whatever. It’s fine. I get it. But don’t expect me to believe your convoluted, half-a*s ramblings. Grow up and own your shortcomings.
#8 Hangovers, 3 days to go back to normal is too much now and not worth it.
#9 B******t arguing with other people. It makes me think of Keanu Reeves. He gave an. Interview about growing older, and said he protects his peace by refusing to argue with anyone about anything. He said “2+2 is 5? You are correct. Have a nice day.”

#11 Lack of sleep. All nighters were once manageable. Now I pull an all nighter and I am useless.

#12 I am tired of anime and superhero movies with teenage protagonists. I’m not saying the stories aren’t good, but I am f*****g tired of coming of age stories

#13 anything starting past 9PM
#14 Not being comfortable. I’m done with that. Give me a pilow and some legroom. A bench in the shower and a fluffy towel. Give me space to breathe and live. Give me quality over quantity and I gladly pay extra for an upgrade.

I’m 64 and will retire in 8 months and also just filed for a divorce and hopefully that will be done before retirement. I’m done with it all. I have looked into buying a coop condo in a 55+ community and should have one secured within a couple of months. My employer seems to think they can call me for advice when I retire, no they can’t because they have been very toxic and I’m almost done playing that game. My husband thinks he can treat me like c**p and not acknowledge anything important to me, I’m done with his toxic behavior. He’s still in shock that I have the guts to do it but when I made a list in writing and he wanted to continue to be married I showed him a list I made of why I needed to leave and why I should stay and the should stay list was completely blank. He couldn’t even argue because it was all true on reasons I should leave.
I am not too old to start a new chapter in my life and enjoy what time I have left.
Edit: Thank you all for the encouragement. We both meet with the attorney today and divorce will be final in 60 to 90 days. This decision has taken 15 years to put in place but someone did tell me about 10 years ago when the time is right I will move forward, the time is right at this phase of my life.

Writing an impressive resume that summarises your skills and achievements can cause anyone to feel immensely pressured. It’s difficult to sell yourself without coming off as boasting while giving a stranger the chance to understand you through a couple of pages of facts about yourself. No wonder many are prone to embellishments that might make their resume stand out from the rest.
While most lean towards adding a language skill they don’t possess or sell themselves as an expert in obscure software, some others go even more overboard with their attempts. Scroll below for a hilarious collection of unbelievable resumes received by recruiters that are at worst face-palm worthy and at best a hilarious piece of entertainment.

Whether you deny the facts of life or not, they will still affect you. So there’s no point ostrich-ing around it and trying to shield yourself. Many people, however,  keep believing in certain lies to make themselves feel better.
From believing a lie detector to MLMs, there are certain truths it’s better to be aware of sooner rather than later. But frustratingly enough, too many comfortably believe lies. However, one online discussion aims to call out these fallacies one at a time. Scroll below to check out some hard-to-palate facts suggested on the thread that many would rather ignore.
More info: Reddit
#1 That Jesus in the new testament was *wildly* opposed to what would become the traditions and practices of Christian fundamentalists.
Image source: AlternativeFilm8886, RDNE Stock project
#2 Based on some disturbing podcasts and articles I’ve been hearing, womens health issues, particularly their pain. Apparently most doctors of both sexes, are quick to dismiss and downplay our pain rather than oh I don’t know treating it?
#3 That financial success has largely to do with Luck (Where you were born, who your parents are, etc)
#4 Built in obsolescence (planned obsolescence) – shocked how many people dont believe it happens
#5 “Invisible” health conditions like Dysautonomia, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Also ADHD. People think you are faking just to get Adderall.
#6 That our memory is very fallible, and does not work like a video camera.
#7
Autism diagnoses. Myself and lots of autistic people I know are often told by people who seem to base their entire knowledge of autism off the movie Rain Man are like “but you don’t seem autistic.”
Research on autism has changed a lot since the 80s but public perception has changed very little.
#8 Climate change, Covid-19, billionaires not caring about the average person
# 9 That having children is not for everyone, that it’s not all sunshine and the meaning of life and millions of people regret being parents.
#10 Weight bias. Literally everyone treats overweight people different
#11 That colds are cause by viruses and not being cold.
#12 Confirmation bias. Reading into a situation what you want to see.
#13 America uses propaganda against their own population.
#14 You can love someone else without loving yourself first. There’s plenty of parents that hate themselves and love their kids. Not recommending it but it’s a stupid thing to deny.
#15 A lie detector isn’t reliable
#16 My camp girlfriend. You wouldn’t know her, she goes to another school.
#17 Most of the division in society today is manufactured.
#18
Skin cancer from not wearing sunblock. It absolutely blows my mind when grown a*s adults brag about not wearing sunscreen. Like it’s a real point of pride for them. Enjoy your early wrinkles and spots.
#19 MLMs are a f*****g scam .
Image source: PineappleWhipped14, Eduardo Francisco Vazquez Murillo
#20 Being 35-50 wasn’t considered “elderly” back in the day. It was common for people to live into their 70s and 80s. The reason we get “average lifespan” data with such low numbers is because so many babies died, skewing the average values downward.

As we live life we learn a lot through our personal experiences that can help us save time, money and effort. But the smart thing to do would be to avoid having to make the mistake in the first place and apply the lessons instead. After all, it’s much more convenient and prudent.
Since wise people try to learn from others’ mistakes one Redditor decided to get the online community to share their inside information on what to avoid based on people’s professional knowledge and experience. As usual, we’ve collected the best pieces of advice for you and shared them in the gallery below.
#1 I am a professional caregiver in an assisted living facility. I will definitely drive off a cliff before being locked in a memory care unit for dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
#2 Go on a date without notifying a friend or family member where I am and who I’m with. I work in law enforcement
#3 Bad friends. ER doc. The amount of people that hang out with the wrong people and end up paying the price is astounding. I teach my kids – whatever your friends do to other people, they will eventually do to you.
#4
Brachycephalic dogs. Pugs, bulldogs, frenchies, all of them. I don’t understand why we keep making them.
#5 Historian here. Not labeling anything.
Meta data is your friend. Always better to add too much information rather than have too little. Label the backs of your photographs. Write clearly. For the love of all that is holy WRITE CLEARLY!
#6 Chiropractors- as a medical practitioner I have heard of (although never personally seen) horrific, permanent damage come about from their ‘manipulations’
#7 Going outside without sunscreen on my face if nowhere else.
I’m a Pathology resident and the amount of ears, noses, lips and other chunks of face I see that surgeons have chopped off due to skin cancers caused by sun damage is sobering. Please in the name of all that’s good an holy find a daily sunscreen that works for you and wear it.
#8 After working as a paralegal at an insurance defense firm, DO NOT TAKE ANY HELICOPTER TOURS.
At least in Hawaii, a lot of the helicopters aren’t well maintained and there are a surprising amount of crashes they manage to keep quiet. One of the evidence exhibits I helped put together for one case was a picture the family had taken in front of the helicopter before they boarded it and were all killed when it crashed. That was almost 20 years ago and that one sticks with me.
#9 Verbal confirmations. Always get it in writing via an email ,a text, carrier pigeon ,a letter I don’t care get it in writing,!
#10 I work in accessibility. Do not hesitate or wait to put grab bars, a tub cut out etc in your house when you grow old or if you have mobility issues. Put grab bars in your bathroom before you fall in the shower, not because you already had a fall in the shower.
#11 Don’t volunteer info to anyone that you haven’t solicited to assist you.
Not the cops.
Not your employer.
Not your vacation plans on FB.
Information will be used against you, limit your exposure.
#12 Large cruise ships.
The number of suits against cruise lines filed in Miami by cruise ship passengers who got infectious diseases or food poisoning at sea is really staggering, only the absolute worst cases make the news but it happens ALL THE TIME, I’ve heard cruise ships described as “floating petri dishes” and that’s putting it mildly.
#13 Opening any links or attachment of an email without verifying the sender mail address
#14 Not getting agreements in writing when it comes to loaning substantial amounts of money. Family, friends, doesn’t matter. A loan without an agreement is a gift.
#15 Used to work at FedEx ground. Pack. Your. S**t.
Pack your s**t like it’s gonna get dropped off a cliff. Package handlers do not care if your box says fragile or has orientation arrows. Stuff it with whatever, packing peanuts, expanding foam, bubble wrap. Pack. Your. S**t. Or even better pack that box and put a bigger box around it. They will toss your s**t, put heavy stuff on top of it. Use it as a step stool to reach higher boxes.
#16 Don’t get back surgery unless it’s absolutely last resort.
Image source: jyzenbok, National Cancer Institute
You need to fix the root cause of the injury – usually it’s core strength weakness or Glut weakness. Go to PT first and really do the exercises. Most people who get spine surgeries have multiple ones over their lives because the level just above or below their surgery becomes injured for the same reason your first one occurred.
#17
Explaining your side to the police. Just don’t do it. It’s fine to give them your license etc on a traffic stop, tell them where you’re going or coming from (be general if you’re like coming from a crack house; you can say “the west side visiting a friend”) also fine to say you haven’t been drinking (never ever that you have). But, DO NOT CONSENT TO A SEARCH OR A FIELD SOBRIETY TEST. Let them get a search warrant, call the drug dog, or arrest you for refusal and draw your blood (which also requires a search warrant). All of these things can be challenged in court, your consent usually can’t be and even if it can it’s MUCH more difficult.
If you did not witness a crime or are the victim of a crime and the police want to talk to you, you are a suspect. You know whether you saw or heard a crime or not. Police want to talk to you about your neighbor getting beat and you heard screams, saw him/her throw a punch, you’re a witness and it’s fine. Police come to ask you about where you were last night, whether you know someone, what you said on social media and you didn’t witness a crimes where you were last night or by the person you know or on social media-you are a suspect.
I’ve practiced criminal defense for over a decade. Only 1 time have I ever seen a Defendant get out of criminal charges by talking to the police. And guess what, he didn’t do it by himself. Lawyer found evidence to back up what he said yada yada yada, The DA made the call to drop the charges.
You know what, the police were PISSED. They targeted him when he got out jail because no matter all of that, they still believed he committed the crime.
When you’re a suspect talking to the police always ends badly. Always.

#18
End of life treatment. Good God, why anyone chooses to be a breathing corpse is beyond me. Whether on machines or due to oxygen interruptions, there is no quality of life… support. Give it the ol’ college try, and if I don’t respond in the first 10 minutes, peace out cub scout.
That’s not to say I won’t take end of life CARE. If I’m 90 and still won’t throw in the towel, I still want help eating and cleaning myself. But the day i stop responding to the world around me, just give me a solid Kevorkian and free up bed space for the next poor schmuck.
#19 Wearing contacts in the shower/pool/any body of water. Worked as an ophthalmic photographer in Pittsburgh for seven years. College students were coming in with ulcers and amoeba in their corneas from swimming in their contacts and then sleeping in them for days.
#20 Drinking Tap Water
1 – I wouldn’t drink water from the tap without letting it run a few seconds first. Especially first thing in the morning.
I used to work for my state’s drinking water compliance program and would collect and analyze drinking water samples from all sorts of public drinking water sources, including people’s homes. All the contaminants, minerals, etc. from the water source to the pipes and even the solder (especially if old) leach and accumulate the longer the water sits in the lines. Letting the tap run for a few seconds flushes out that “stagnant” water and draws fresher water from the mainlines.
2 – Don’t be an a*****e to anyone in customer service – from retail to sales and food service – I worked in retail for many, many years. These folks are just trying to get by and aren’t responsible for whatever is that got you all upset in the first place. In fact, simply being nice to them in a difficult situation can more times than not actually work out in your favor as they may sympathize/empathize with you.
#21 Consultants. We get paid to interview your staff to document the issues and solutions they’ve already identified but can’t get approval to do. Then we put some cool slides and bogus ROI numbers around it so your executives will fund the work.
It’s super rare for a company to not have someone on staff who knows what needs to be done and has it 3/4ths documented already. Execs either don’t trust their own team enough or need an outside group’s recommendation to get through the political BS to implement change.
#22 As a software engineer, internet-connected ‘smart’ home stuff. I don’t need some internet random gaining access to my security cameras.

Wash your rice before cooking it, it will be fluffier. Don’t put olive oil in your boiling water if it’s for pasta, the sauce won’t stick much on the pasta if you do. Olive oil is good for salad but burned it can both taste nasty and be unhealthy. It has a a burning point lower than other oils, therefore will burn more easily. To check if your oil is hot enough to fry, put the tip of a wooden spoon. If small bubbles form, the oil is hot enough. Don’t throw away your vegetables waste while cooking, put them in a bag and then in the freezer. Use it anytime you want to make some vegetable stock. This one is quite know but still great: when baking don’t forget to line your pan with butter then flour. I used to only do butter, my brownie never wanted to come out of the pan. rip all the brownies…

Always use cold water to mix with flour or cornstarch to make your gravy. It won’t get lumpy. My dad was a chef & he always stressed this. He hated lumpy gravy.

If you’re searing a bunch of little things in a pan, like scallops, set them in the pan in a clock-like circular pattern. That way, you’ll be able to easily keep track of where to start flipping, and then you can just move clockwise down the line.
Seems obvious, but I was just haphazardly throwing pieces of meat or seafood in a pan prior to seeing this done on a cooking show.

Oatmeal turns into rock if you leave it out after adding hot water and difficult to wash

– Boil your rice like pasta to get wonderfully fluffy rice
– Rest your food before eating (meat, casserole, lasagna, pizza, etc)
– A $4 meat thermometer is how you test, not cutting and releasing all the juices
– Understand the Maillard reaction to get flavor into food esp meat
– Under-salt your pasta sauce, over-salt the water when you boil the pasta
– Buy only high-quality oil. Not only for taste/freshness, but higher smoke point
– Fat has been wrongly maligned, save it and use it
– A touch of acidity (lemon juice, dry citric acid, pickle juice, etc) is required in nearly all dishes
– A pinch of cane sugar takes the funkiness out of many sauces
– Pressure cookers turn the cheapest cuts of meat into succulent, tender morsels
– Good food is mostly technique and appropriate seasoning, not expensive ingredients
#7
Residual heat will continue cooking more than you imagine. That hot pan doesn’t stop cooking just because ou turned the stove off, and meat can cook internally as well once already hot.
#8
S**t I learned while working in a restaurant:
The quickest way to defrost something is just let a stream of cold water run over it for a bit until it defrosts.
Cool down your hot pans in hot water, not cold water, because it’ll f**k up your pans
Throw that pasta water in your pasta sauce and you’re golden
If you’re going to make a big meal or a dish with a lot of ingredients, do ALL your prep first and then cook otherwise you’re going to struggle
Always wash your hands after touching meat
Vegetables always go over meat when you’re storing them, not the other way around
Sometimes guessing your ingredients is okay, but it’s better to underestimate than overestimate
Clean and wash your dishes as you cook so you have less things to do later.
Edit: I meant pasta sauce, not pasta because it’ll thicken your sauce and help your sauce cling to the pasta better.

The MOST important tip I can give to anyone is to setup all of your ingredients before you even turn the stove on. Also known as ‘mise en place’ in the culinary world.
Everything. Salts, spices, veggies, proteins. Everything should be on your counter and easy to reach.
It’s seriously probably the biggest thing keeping someone from becoming a ‘meh’ cook into a good one.
Ex. If you want to put chives into your omelet, you obviously dont want to start cutting them when your eggs are already on the pan. You’ll overcook your omelet.
#10

**F**k up.**
Burn food. Overseason. Have a pot boil over. Make flatbread on accident. Make soggy latkas. Spice that curry up to lava temps. Just learn from it. Don’t be afraid to ruin a meal. Be willing to ruin a meal so it ensures you’ll make a better one in the future.
Nobody bakes a flawless souffle the first time. Pretty much everyone will forget to put eggs in brownies once or twice. I’m sure most people have put too much salt in their eggs, or cooked a steak to a brick. Don’t let mistakes stop you from learning new things, and don’t let the fear of f*****g up a meal prevent you from trying new recipes.
Edit: I don’t even know what reddit silver does but thank you kind internet stranger. Keep cooking and making mistakes!

1/2 a cup of uncooked Rice per person. I always see people mentioning they can never get their portions of rice correct. You either end up with enough to feed a tribe, or barely enough for one meal. 1/2 per person, and every now and then I’ll add in an extra 1/2-1 Cup if I’m cooking for a large group.
#15

This isn’t a secret or anything, but I think a lot of folks don’t realize how important acid is in a lot of cooking. When you’ve seasoned something perfectly but it still tastes like it’s missing something, it’s usually acid. A bit of citrus juice or vinegar will take it to the next level.
#16
Always scrape the ingredients from the cutting board into a pot with the back of the knife, it will help the blade stay sharp longer
#17

Think about what you’re throwing away. People discard so much when it can be repurposed.
Got a dried out lump of cheese? Make mac and cheese with it. Dont throw it away.
The stem from a head of broccoli, once that gnarly bit at the very end has been removed, is great if finely diced or sliced in soups or stir fries.
Bones and carcass can be made into stock with no effort. Just a bit of salt and water, dont be intimidated by recipes that ask for $20 worth of other stuff.
Pies and stews are great for sad looking veggies and bits of meat that are close to being off.
Even potato skins can be fried into delicious treats. Cold rice is perfect for egg fried rice. Old bread is good for breadcrumbs. Dont have a blender? Grate them instead.
It frustrates me when I see how much good food goes to waste, food that can be re-used and cooked into recipes that even a total amateur can cook.
Also, people need to stop frying food on maximum heat, if your stove dials go to 8 for example, frying an egg should be on 5-6.

There is no such thing as cooking chicken “rare”. Beef and pork have some granularity in how “done” the meat is, but chicken is either “done”, “overdone” or “salmonella”.
Edit – Yes, sous vide changes these rules somewhat, and all ground meats should generally be cooked through.
#20

Wash your hands before preparing ready to eat foods and after handling raw meats, especially chicken.

Our sense of humour has turned darker and darker with the passing years, so it stands to reason that someone thought, hmmm… maybe the devil has a funny bone too. So they created the ‘s8n‘ Instagram account which has currently amassed a following of over 290K peeps.
The self-proclaimed Devil who runs the account claims that “he is not evil, just misunderstood”. Some posts are even impishly captioned, “Stop hating yourself, that’s my job.” So while life has its dark days, perhaps some devilish humour will lighten your day.
