“on a scale from one to ten, with ten being the worst i could possibly do…a solid five,” she didn’t do that badly, but she knows she didn’t give it her all the way she normally would either. “a super power to hit people when they’re down, definitely one i’m jealous about,” she teased, clearly not serious until she looked up and heard her words. “maybe that’s one way of putting it.” she sighed before offering the drink menu to cynthia, “i am sincerely sorry about going behind your back to nik, and i will buy you every drink you order tonight. deal?”

“Well five isn’t bad, it’s average. That just means your audition was subpar but not terrible.” Cynthia assured. It was her way of trying to cheer her up but she wasn’t exactly good at that sort of thing. “Hey, I don’t blame you. If I were you I’d be jealous of me too. All the time.” She added playfully with a shrug. At Kaira’s apology, she smirked and took the drink menu from her. “You had me at drinks.” She joked. “Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to drink enough to actually forgive you? We’ll have to start with brandy if that’s going to happen.”

“I’m not saying we’re best friends, that’s for sure.  I’m just saying that the whole ‘I hate my parents for making me do something I don’t want to do’ shtick isn’t new.”  Nasir took another brave drink of his coffee before continuing.  “If you’re so capable, then you wouldn’t need me here in the first place.  You’d understand that the more classes you fail, the longer the degree’s going to actually take due to resitting them.  Should really just do the work in the first place and get it over with.  You’re doing yourself a disservice in the long run.”

“Maybe not? But I’m not just any other girl and this isn’t your typical situation.” And that was certainly an understatement. Cynthia rolled her eyes and scoffed as he continued. She hated when people assumed they understood her and/or her situation without knowing the entire story. University was never the real issue, it was only a small part of it. “You think you’ve got it all figured out don’t you? But that’s the thing, I don’t need you here. I don’t give a fuck about math or school and you’re wasting your time believing otherwise. The only disservice would be giving my mother the satisfaction of having her way again.”

Nasir’s eyes widened in amusement at how the other snapped at him.  He didn’t want to seem like an asshole because of his expression, but he couldn’t help it.  Looks like he hit the end of his string of questions.  “Alright, well deal with me then.  Look at it this way, either you deal with me, someone who knows your tendencies and can adapt to them or someone completely new who might actually get under your skin even more.  Take your pick.”

“Ugh! I’d rather not. Either way sounds like a chore. Is there a third option?” Cynthia groaned. Was there really no getting out of this? “Also, you don’t know my tendencies. Spending a few hours a week with me doesn’t mean that you know me.” She took a moment to sit up straight before continuing. “You have no idea who I am or what I’m capable of. If you’re still sitting here it’s because your math brain is too simple to process that I’ve been going easy on you. Besides, I don’t think any other tutor could possibly annoy me more than you do.”

“please..i’d rather become a recluse that have a headline like that hit the news stands.” and it was the truth, if word got out about her romantic affairs, she’d take a mini hiatus for sure. still, she looked at cynthia when the other gave her the surprised look over the audition kaira had botched, and managed a smile. “oh no i booked it, i went and everything, but it just–i bombed it.” and sure enough, she’d asked for a second chance but those didn’t come easy. “oh of course, you just know when someone is down and out so you can come and make it worse huh?” she teased, aware that if cyn did try to make her mood worse, it wouldn’t be as bad as the other could possibly unleash on people she actually didn’t like at all. “well i’m glad you’re here. i didn’t like how we left things at the charity event.”

“Hmm, I don’t doubt that.” Cynthia snickered. She could only imagine the embarrassment that would come from a headline like that. “You bombed it? Really? How badly, like on a scale of one to ten?” She asked curiously. It certainly wouldn’t have been her first guess that Kaira butchered her audition. Still, she was oddly interested in knowing all of the horrid details. “I do. I’m telling you it’s like a sixth sense or something. I basically have a super power.” Cynthia added with a shrug. It was a gift and a curse really, because finding people at their worst wasn’t always a good thing. “Why? Is your guilty conscience eating at you? If that’s the case, I’m sure one more sincere apology should suffice.”

Kota: Oh he is but he is also smart, as annoying as that is to admit  and so he will use anything against us if he can Kota: Dorys not going to be happy but I need Dory safe and protected and despite hating the man, he has the means to help Dory as long as he stays on our dads good side.

cyn: damn. your dad sounds like my mother when she’s pissed

cyn: theo is going to be fine because we’re gonna look after him okay

cyn: so stop worrying so much it’ll give you wrinkles

There were a few more cautious blows to his cup before Nasir took the smallest of sips to test out the temperature.  His eyebrows raised in curiosity when the girl cut herself off.  Clearly there was something more that she was leaving out and Nasir would be lying if he said he wasn’t intrigued enough to want to push how far he could.  “If every time someone asked a question was considered snooping then no one would be able to have a common conversation.  I’m just trying to talk.  She’s not an idiot to see that you’re not going to graduate.  At least use some sort of leverage against her to get the degree and something you want out of it.”

Cynthia felt herself growing frustrated by the conversation and even more at Nasir’s persistent questioning. She didn’t want to keep talking about it but he was making it difficult to drop the conversation. “No, you’re not trying to talk your trying to snoop. You’re pushing the topic just to dig into your curiosity. That’s snooping.” She clarified with a huff. “There’s no changing her mind until I actually flunk. Either way, there’s nothing for me to gain from this. Whether I get a degree or not it won’t make a difference. I’ll still be obligated to stick around.” There was a hint of sadness in her voice as she spoke. The complex situation she was currently in wasn’t easy to think about. Even more, she hated how vulnerable it made her feel. “The only thing I want from this is to leave. Until then, I have to deal with you.”

kaira only scoffed quietly at the other’s words before smiling at the thought of some company even if she knew cynthia wasn’t kaira’s biggest fan right now. “oh god no,” she murmured when cynthia asked if she was having boy trouble. “do you really think i’m that lame that i’m going to wallow over some boy?” okay so maybe kaira was a little lame since she was upset with how her love life was utterly non existent, but she wasn’t going to tell cynthia that, not when she was already so down. “it’s mainly just that i lost the chance to audition to something i really wanted.” with a smile she looked back at cynthia and shrugged, “so what brought you here tonight?”

“I don’t know? I mean, you could be.” Cynthia shrugged. “Kaira Singhania, down in the dumps over a boy.” She laughed at the thought. “There’s a first time for everything right?” The blonde added as she leaned back in her seat, eyeing the girl curiously as she confessed her woes. “How did you lose your chance? Did you not book the audition in time or something? Can’t you just pull some strings?” She asked, surprised to see that Kaira had given up on the opportunity so easily. Cynthia always thought she was more persistent than that. “Me? I honestly have no idea how I ended up here. Maybe my bitch senses picked up your wallowing or something? I have a way of catching people at their worst.”
