Vought absolutely makes Aoi an idol ala kpop or jpop because they think doing so will give them more international coverage. The pro to this is that it means Aoi gets to travel the world. The con to this is that they're tired from practicing dances and recording songs. So after a couple years of pushing it too far and not letting her fight much crime, Vought decided to pull it back. Unfortunately Aoi would almost rather be tired all the time. They're not fond of the rest of the seven, especially homelander. (at least especially not @tornmask's homie and probably not homie in general based off how he is in canon lol)

For all the energy Jack's putting into smiling, Aoi can't match it. She tries to not look grumpy but still looks in pain. Usually dislocations don't hurt anymore. These hurt a lot. They can feel how everything that connects the joint to the socket is tugged on and at risk of tearing. Right now Aoi sits on the stretcher with their knees at their chest and arms on their knees. It doesn't help reset the joints, but it lessens the pain.

"I'll try it," she admits, "I used to have a sling that helped but a friend needed it for her own dislocation and i let her have it. Hindsight 20/20, that was not the best idea. But a brace. . . I've not tried one." A brace is probably better than a sling anyway. Slings restrict movement so much that it can injury the arm further. "Can i get some aspirin for the pain too?"

"So um, I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and it makes my joints really loose." Aoi fiddles with the zipper on their jacket. "My doctor couldn't see me to set my shoulders back, they're both out." If one to look at her, they could see the way she almost didn't have shoulders. Their arms drooped. "Have fun trying this out. the late night hustle and bustle of the emergency room hasn't slowed down at all. they're doing their best to try and clear beds as fast as they can, but its hard, and its never-ending. jack abbott walks into aoi's room with a friendly smile - they're young, and he doesn't want to risk upsetting them by looking grumpy.

"well, let's see what we can try," offers jack. "we can see about getting you a brace and seeing if that works out," he's not sure how that will work for both shoulders, but its a start, and its better than nothing. "what do you say?" because he isn’t about to do anything without patient consent.

The rest of the kitchen staff are used to Vera's visits by now. They rush around her with ease and know not to listen in on the conversations with Aoi. All of them know there's love between the two. She's not a bother anyway.

"I was?" Their mind immediately flashes to their secrets. Did the gods give Vera a sign? Or instead give her a sign via Vera? "I'm not sure what I might have wanted to tell you. Nothing you don't already know." Although they know it'll be better to tell her everything else in the next few days. A thing which makes them knead the dough harder. "How did I look? Was I excited? Or scared?"

Whichever way they looked was important. The expression dictated the way she would handle everything. "Or maybe I just wanted to tell you how beautiful you looked." Maybe they were overreacting and there was no dire situation to deal with.

She swirls a finger through the flour dust that has escaped onto the counter, touch delicate and searching, as if stirring the air for meaning. An heiress flexes her fingers, the chatter of the kitchen like a distant hum, swallowed by the closeness of Aoi's voice.

"And… it was the kind of dream you don't wake from wanting to forget."

A dream-haze in her own eyes, the ways she swoons, moves, infiltrates; watching the dough swell between their fingers, yet failing to quiet a small, traitorous tremor of hope that rises like the yeast inside of it. There’s something like an apology when she recalls, once again, that they have more to do than entertain her airy conversations. "I had a feeling you might not mind the visit."
