my specific take on lawlight is that they are both extremely in love with each other in a strange and weird way but L is like. head over heels. and he knows it, he has known it since the tennis scene. he knows 100% he loves light yagami with all he has, like the rain scene was peak gay pining in the weirdest way possible. despite the fact that L knows light is kira or maybe because light is kira, L still continues to admit to himself that he loves light with all of his being.

light on the other hand, also in love but of course, he is repressed as hell about it. not just because internalized homophobia but obviously like L is his natural enemy, he has got to kill him. he doesn't. know at all that he loves L, like i said super fucking repressed. during the yotsuba arc when he lost his memories, i imagine that he independently kind of garnered this sort of romantic interest in L. like late at night, when he can't sleep, he'll have this distant faraway thought like "hm. i wonder what it would be like to be with L." and then he goes back to sleep and he forgets that he even thought such a thing. then of course, he gets his memories back, L dies.

he thinks he is the happiest man alive. he is the happiest man alive and this will be the case for a pretty long time until suddenly. he feels lonely. maybe he has always felt lonely like this ever since L dies. that's when he starts to catch that he might have feelings for L that are akin to love. he doesn't call it love, still repressed but he describes it to himself that it's a feeling he has never felt before for a person. in actuality, it is love but light doesn't know that and he won't admit it to himself.

hirano taiga is the bl protagonist of all time. he doesn’t know what the fuck is going on. every single sentiment he has about kagiura points overwhelmingly in the direction of romantic love and he simply says ‘that’s completely normal.’ and moves on.

I think what makes Sasaki and Miyano such a great story is that not only does it portray really wonderful and sweet gay relationships like Sasaki/Miyano and Hirano/Kagiura and the issues they face, but also the straight relationships like Kuresawa and Ogasawara with their girlfriends, or how Hanzawa is a straight man who loves his gay brother and helps Miyano with his feelings for Sasaki because they’re his friends

Like nothing feels weird between all the dynamics and everyone just loves and accepts each other for who they love and they each respect the other’s choice in partner and I just think that it’s a good representation of what the world should be like. How we should all just be kind and be together and not separated and just live happy lives with our friends who may be a little different from us but it’s okay 💜
