Pool.  Dead.
So, Deadpool is good.
Like, really good.
Like really really good.  The kind of movie that has flaws but the flaws don't really matter because the entirety of the movie is just full of respect for the source material and actual genuine heart.  It's a movie-length apology to a character after he got extreme short-shift in the X-Men: Origins: Wolverine entry, that Days of Future Past helpfully erased from continuity along with whatever the hell was going on in X3.
It's funny, bordering on hilarious, but I wouldn't put it at the non-stop laughs that a lot of internet reviewers are purporting, mainly due to an extended bout of 'origin-story-itis' that doesn't really do much but explain how Deadpool got to be both Immortal and Fugly, and also give a central no-name villian to fight so we can make an excuse for a lot of people's heads to fall off.  But at the same time, it succeeds in making you care what happens to Wade even when he's not in the red spandex, as you see why he is going through what he's going through. There are X-Men!  Well, 2, although Wolverine gets plenty of shout outs.  I don't know much about Collossus except that he was/is? married to Kitty Pryde, but it feels right and very comic-X-meny that he's the voice of reason to Deadpool.  The other X-Man, Teenage Negasonic Warhead, is a Deeeeep pull and much like most of the X-men heroes, nothing like her namesake, but she provides some great moments.  When the two of them actually get to fight, it's a blast.
It's very R-rated, and much like Kick-Ass before it, it's a miracle  that the stars aligned to make a movie that breaks every rule it can in the Superhero Movie verse, all the while  knowing full well what it's doing.  Deadpool extremely gorily dismembers with glee, and frequently calls out other Superheroes (Including Green Lantern!) whether or not they exist in the same universe.  And at the same time it's well written.  Deadpool isn't just a one-note 'HAR I'M SO FUNNY' type, he uses his humor to distract himself from his life and pain.  A lot of times even the comics miss that, but by spending ample time with Wade maskless and sometimes quipless, we feel for the character, even if he's incredibly insulting and offensive to whoever happens to be around him.
After the superhero movie so bad even I didn't see it, Fantastic 4, left a crater big enough to hearten the loudmouths that have been crying about the coming Superhero Movie Fatigue ever since The Avengers beat The Dark Knight Rises after taking a ten year vacation, FOX could have been forgiven if they just pulled the plug on everything comic-book related that didn't have Xavier sitting in a chair, but instead they poured a lot of money into the advertising, and they're going to get rewarded with a huge opening that's currently tracking to set a February record, and guarantee the promised sequel.  Since X-Men seem to be wrapping up with Apocalypse spelling the end of the contracts of the main stars, and Hugh Jackman hanging up the claws with an Old Man Logan adapation next year, I think patterning the new cinematic mutant universe around Deadpool would be a good start.  Bring in Cable for the sequel, and have that lead right into an X-Force movie.  Move forward from there, and this time trend a bit closer to the comics when you're adapting the characters.  Deadpool himself in looks voice and actions is as close as you can get to the comic character, and the care that was taken shows every moment he's on screen.
Deadpool is the kind of movie that makes me glad that movies are made.  I would not be surprised to see Deadpool as the best of the hero movies this year.  It's not overly epic, it's just fun on a level that Marvel only gets to once in a while, and DC doesn't look like they're even trying for.  I mean, I'm very excited for Batman V. Superman, but it's got the same kind of dour that Man of Steel had.  Killing thousands of people are fine, but without any humor or anything to defuse the tension, it ends up being overwhelming, which is why there's a lot of division.
So coming up next in Superhero movies is the aforementioned Batman V. Superman, then Captain America: Civil War, X-Men Apocalypse, Suicide Squad, and Doctor Strange.  I don't think any of those are going to bomb, although I'm not overly excited for X-Men, unless someone at Fox wakes up after this weekend's grosses come in and throw a stinger in for Mr. Pool at the end.   And by the way, as you should probably just expect with these type of films, stay to the end of the credits.  The stinger is glorious.  Also glorious is Stan Lee's usual cameo, which he cannot top.   Stan Lee still being in all of these movies is a bit odd at this point, don't you think?  He wasn't even working at Marvel when Deadpool was created by Rob Liefeld as a bootleg Deathstroke from DC.  Of course though, he wasn't in F4, and that movie bombed.
So I'm going to go again this weekend.  You should too.   5 stars, good stuff.

We're thrilled that LEGO Movie writers and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be back to script the sequel, and it sounds like they've already got a basic plot for the second movie in mind. So how are they going to handle that big revelation at the end of the first movie? Spoilers ahead.

Kinda liking Tumblr.  Links into FB so I don't have to post things over there except for groups and chats, and easier to do videos and things.  Better interface.

Hm, big snowstorm, and gas prices miraculously rise 30 cents.  Even though barrels are down to 50 bucks.  I don't know much about Gasoline but I'm pretty sure I didn't just put 60% of one in my car.

Welcome to 2015! We're getting our obvious Back to the Future II jokes out of the way nice and early so we can move on to more important topics like holiday hijinks, Dan's debilitating disease, console network outages, the white whale that is Mike Tyson, ripping off human fingers, and the unlikely renaissance of... Warframe?
