Bird of the Week: The Hoatzin! 🪶

These prehistoric looking guys are known for their strong unpleasant scent and lack off flying skills, so to speak.

They can be found within tropical, forested and swampland areas of South America. The way they digest their food is unique as well, and more common to the way herbivorous mammals do. The vegetation that they consume is fermented in a large crop in their stomachs and the esophagus, both of which are made up of many chambers. (Similar to a cow)

Like their dino ancestors, baby hoatzins have claws on their wings, however lose them as they mature.

WHAT IS CRITTERCRAFT?

Crittercraft is an ongoing Minecraft roleplay server consisting of three characters (from left to right on the banner): Grey the Shoebill Harpy, Jade the Quetzal, and Jimmothy Binglefart III the Pesquet's Parrot.
