PERFORMANCE CROSSINGS 2021

▎Performance Crossings 2021 is the fifth edition of an international festival of performance art.

���•• 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 2021  International is the result of more than a year and a half of collaboration between a curatorial team and a dozen artists from Ukraine, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Ireland and other countries. This cooperation is framed by the coexistence of the most fundamental moments of the pandemic situation as well as by the search for alternative ways of artistic (re)presentation at a distance. The whole process and theoretical reflection of the year 2020 is archived in the festival publication REMOTE PERFORMANCE ART.

▰ For us, the year 2021 is a moment when the relationships we have built through digital platforms will materialize in physical interaction. It is also a milestone in the transformation process of the artists and curators, and of the festival itself. This period of time is crucial for rediscovering the meaning and role of similar performative events and for resuming functioning in cultural space-time.

Beautiful Confusion Collective & Cross Attic invites you to reflective time-space of Movement/Architecture: 𝘼𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙨

▝▘ Navigating the pandemic city has sometimes felt like playing a mad game of pinball: in constant motion, we’re unable to come to rest, less locked down than locked out. Which doors open to us and which ones don’t? The ones that don’t, will they do so again? Or are their interiors lost to us forever, because the lease is up, the relationship is over, the job is done, that person doesn’t live there anymore?

▙▗ Join us for a live puzzling out of complex matters related to inside and out, access and inaccessibility. Reflections on interior and exterior space from architects, urbanists and philosophers juxtapose with photographs and personal stories - mine and yours, shared anonymously in real time - across a duration installation. A different kind of Advent reflection at home, or on the run, for three minute, or 3 hours.

▖ This event is part of Beautiful Confusion Collective’s Movement/Architecture project, a cycle of performances exploring the relationship between the human body and the built environment. Previous Movement/Architecture pieces have been performed in the spaces that inspired them, though one of the project’s main interests is the embodied memory of space. In this iteration, we lean hard in that direction, travelling across Prague and beyond from a living room in Žižkov. ▗ Project is produced by Beautiful Confusion in collaboration with Cross Attic and with support from Art District Prague 7.

Ester Grohová & kol. ~ Safe space

Audiovisual artist Ester Grohová together with her fellow artists will transform the venue of Cross Attic into a safe environment. SAFE SPACE is a prototype of a participatory installation & artist-run community space that works with the topics of care & solidarity.

Ester Grohová (1992) in her work often addresses topics of gender and different feminist approaches to current sociopolitical, technological and environmental questions. Her work is highly influenced by social networks and their impact on individual psyche and society.  She mostly expresses her work through sound compositions, solo and collective performances and her own or found footage video.

Tereza Silon & Zeynab Gueye ~ Laments 4 love they've not known (yet)

Zeynab Gueye and Tereza Silon create space and interactions in which love flows back and forth between the personal and the planetary/collective. Sometimes, these positions strengthen each other, sometimes they are in a complex relationship. Laments are rituals for the love that we wish for but remain unsure about possibilities of its existence in the current systems. 

Glimpses of utopia make us mourn for the times which we had not known how it would be to want more and relate in more dignified and pleasurable ways. We mourn the times when our desires were afraid to speak through their voices. Lament is a ritual of ablution - the void/release which follows can be a possibility for imagining and dreaming the (im)possible bodies, social/ecological constellations, queer sensibilities and desires which would otherwise remain under sediments of hardened grief. Lament is a ritual in which the body opens, pours, resonates and channels the ones that we know of, the ones that have been here before us and the ones yet to come. The praxis of lament is both ancestral and futuristic. The praxis of lament is erotic. The praxis of lament is dissent in a culture of dullness. To no longer separate eros and grief, to not be depressed but acutely alive, and yet aware of the dying and our culture of dishonouring life/death takes the wind from the sales of the Empire. Wanting to feel you alive is a vow of my love for you.

Zeynab Gueye and Tereza Silon aim to create a space for their research, experimentation and documentation of their creative process (in a form of an archive or a zine). They are open to facilitate a space for 2 on 1 ritual/rituals for individual attendants, pairs or little constellations (depending on the most recent restrictions and aligned with proper safety negotiations). ZEYNAB GUEYE is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, community organizer, founder of digital queer-feminist platform and a DJ. Their practice is influenced by their love for pro-Black queerness, intersectional feminism and by their interest in ecologies and the abilities to dream of visionary futurisms amidst social depression. Their academic experience is influenced by the study of reflexive anthropologies and postcolonial theories. They perceive individual contextualized embodied experience as a source of valid knowledge.

TEREZA SILON’s interdisciplinary practice stir on the confines of performance, healing technologies, facilitation and research. She combines the theoretical and the political with embodied explorations. Her interest lies within the social and natural ecologies, individual and collective bodies, intersectionality, queering, the erotic and possibilities of expansive intimacy in extractive systems as a subversion/healing of power structures. Her theoretical rudiments have also risen from her studies of rituals and ephemeral art forms, studies of clinical naturopathy and bodywork practice.

Ran Jiao ~  I Was Naked When I Met the Spider

I Was Naked When I Met the Spider is a solo performance on encounters with the otherworldly. An unexpected meeting with a spider frees a human mind from the everyday and sheds light on the path towards another dimension. Vulnerability and generosity are the keys to this journey. While a human body seeks to embody a spider, she sees the life of a glass of water, the tree of fire, dust in the cosmos, and an asteroid named Arachne. The encounter with/as an “alien” species echoes the artist’s experience of living on a foreign land. The spider is the Other, and so is she. The performance explores, through the body, clothes, and everyday objects/materials, the deep listening and imagination of an unspoken story.

RAN JIAO is a Chinese performing artist based in Prague. After an English literature bachelor in Hong Kong and a joke-writing job in Beijing, She came to DAMU to study theatre and performance. She works with her body, sound/voice, text, and everyday materials, and seek ritualistic transformations from within. She looks for and gives a voice to the invisible, the hidden, and the voiceless that co-exist in the everyday.

Possible Ways of Doing Things je pop-up open call pro umělce*umělkyně, kurátory*kurátorky, výzkumníky*výzkumnice, malé organizace a jiné kulturní aktanty, skrze který Cross Attic nabízí své studio a drobné, zbývající lidské a finanční/technické zdroje.

V posledních dnech jsme vystaveni spektru ne-možností zahrnující odložené či zrušené projekty, akce, setkání stejně jako existenční úskalí. Jednoduchým rezidenčním modulem chceme přinést trochu pozitivní nálady do umělecké scény a nabídnout platformu, která umožní zaměřit se na to, co je možné. Skrze tři týdenní rezidence dostanou vybraní participanti*participantky volnou ruku, aby využili prostor a čas k čemukoliv, co považují za důležité/potřebné pro ně samotné nebo pro jejich okolí: přátele, kolegy, sítě… Během rezidence nabízejí rovněž lidé kolem Cross Attic své schopnosti a čas ke konzultování projektů, k oborovým i lidským diskuzím a setkáním, ke kurátorské, networkingové a project-management asistenci, k pomoci s dokumentací nebo s čímkoliv, co bude v našich kapacitách.

Studio může být využito absolutně volným způsobem. Například k pokračování ve vlastní činnosti, rozvoji individuální praxe, k setkávání stejně jako ke sdílení prostoru nebo organizování vlastních akcí: instalací, performancí, čtení, diskuzí, … Pro jakoukoliv veřejnou akci nabízíme 100% z případného vstupu, který může být distribuován na základě vlastního rozhodnutí. Podmínkou rezidence ale NENÍ nutnost veřejného výstupu. Čas i nabízené zdroje mohou být využity čistě i interním procesům nebo jen pro vytvoření bezpečného prostoru k vlastní existenci či odpočinku.

Cross Attic residency format October-November 2020

Possible Ways of Doing Things is a pop-up open call for artists, curators, researchers, small organisations and other cultural actants in which the Cross Attic will provide its studio and the small amount of remaining both human and financial/technical resources. 

In recent days, we tend to experience a myriad of im-possibilities including postponed or stopped projects, shows, meetings as well as existential issues. The simple residency module aims to bring a bit of positive vibes into the scene and offer a platform to focus on the possible. Within the three short-term residencies, selected participants will have free hands in doing whatever they think is important/needed for them and their surroundings; friends, colleagues, networks, … During the residency people connected to Cross Attic offer consultations, dialogues, curatorial or project management & networking assistance, support in documentation or anything that is in our capacities.

The studio time can be used in any manner. E.g. to develop own work or practices, to use it as a meeting space, to share it with others or to organize own events: installations, performances, readings, discussions, … For any kind of these events, we offer 100% of the ticket sales that can be distributed upon the participant’s decision. Yet there is no pressure or need to make any public event at all and it is possible to use the space for internal processes only or even just as a safe space for relieving.

Performance Crossings - international performance art festival organized by Cross Attic in coproduction with MALÁ INVENTURA festival 2020 opens up cross][club to a vertical experience of performance art intervention into our reality.

↗ 𝔸𝕤𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕥 ↙ 𝔻𝕖𝕤𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕥 is a spatial and temporal commentary to issues of growth, borders of individual comfort or the position of humans in the unstable present. How can we in our accelerated, competitive society rise and not become slaves of own ascension, but still be discovering the joy of self-improvement and inner growth? How much can we slow down without stopping entirely?  Can we descend but not to touch the socioeconomic bottom? Is it possible to ascend horizontally? During one-day event ↗ 𝔸𝕤𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕥 ↙ 𝔻𝕖𝕤𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕥 dedicated to the medium of performance art both audience members and artists will be repeatedly ascending and descending the staircase. 22/10 - 25/10 TEATR NOVOGO FRONTA - premiéra

TEATR NOVOGO FRONTA se vrací s novou premiérou na půdu Cross Clubu.

Divadelní a taneční skupina TEATR NOVOGO FRONTA, etablovaná na poli fyzického a pohybového divadla, poprvé spolupracuje s tvůrci zaměřujícími se na současnou progresivní činohru. Novou hru s názvem Objektivně je potřeba hrabat písek uvedou tvůrci 22. - 25. října v Cross Attic.

Objektivně je potřeba hrabat písek vzdáleně čerpá z románu japonského autora Kóbó Abe Písečná žena. Autoři v inscenaci zkoumají zdánlivě jednoznačný pojem svoboda, který se rozpadá do mnoha podob – svobody vnější i vnitřní, materiální i duchovní, pozitivní i negativní, svobody naplňovat svoje tužby i svobody od tužeb.

 ���Přestože je téma inscenace velice aktuální, děj zůstává v rovině podobenství a nemá ambici explicitně komentovat jednotlivé politické kauzy dneška. Diváky provokativně konfrontujeme otázkami, které mohou vztáhnout k vlastnímu životu: O jakou svobodu vlastně stojíme? Co jsme jí ochotní obětovat? Jakou daň za svobodu platíme? Jak poznáme, že jsme svobodní?”, říká režisér projektu Šimon Stiburek.  

 Projekt je pro Irinu Andreevu a Teatr Novogo Fronta unikátním experimentem, jelikož se jedná o jejich první inscenaci spojující fyzické a pohybové divadlo s činohrou. Na projektu se podílí např. izraelský herec a tanečník Vladimir Benderski, mladý alternativní režisér Šimon Stiburek, herečka autorského a experimentálního divadla Zdeňka Brychtová, architektka a scénografka Gabriela Pojerová, herec a hudebník Petr Šmíd a tanečník Henrique Pinto.
