So, I decided I wanted to finally build myself an amp after thinking about it for a couple of years. I started with jcm800 2204 kit from from Ceriatone and had them modify the chassis for an additional preamp tube, loop send and return levels on the back panel, a loop bypass toggle and two additional front panel controls. Taking inspiration from modded 4 input JMP heads I had the 2 added pots placed next to the input jacks, vertically. I also had them powder coat the chassis black to protect against any accidental shorts to ground and, well, it looks cool. Front controls are your typical pre/master volume and TMBP tone controls. The added controls are SLO style depth and a ppimv. On the back panel, in addition to the normal features, there is a half power switch, external bias points, and active send and return effects loop levels. The effects loop is placed after the tone stack but before master and is driven by the added preamp tube. I designed a pot mounted pcb to hold the additional components for the loop which is the small green pcb visible in the internal shots. The loop can be completely bypassed with the toggle below the loop jacks. When nothing is plugged into the loop, the jacks are internally jumpered allowing the loop to add an additional gain stage to the preamp. #snk2204 #snk2204 #diy #2204 #marshall #modded #cleantone #ceriatone

Have you ever felt like there is no end in sight but you need to just keep going because someone else depends on you? No matter how they treat you or support you, you just can't give up. I feel like I've been holding my breath for months now and I have to keep holding no matter how bad my lungs burn. I've been trying to describe how I've felt and it keeps coming back to water. Drowning just below the surface but I will keep doing it because I feel like I have to and no one can tell me otherwise. Ok this is absurd, but I decided I had enough gain pedals so I grabbed a couple time based pedals to run in the loop of my Mesa Boogie Mark 3 combo. I use a Boss PQ-3B parametric EQ in the loop normally to supplement the graphic eq and attempt to cop some of those Hetfield tones. Now the EQ is followed by a Walrus Audio ARP-87, an Old Blood Noise Black Fountain, a Keeley Caverns V2, and an Adventure Audio Whateverb. I think I have my delay needs covered. All sitting on a Pedaltrain Nano Plus and powered by a Strymon Ojai tucked underneath the board.

Holy shit. Scot out here dropping a gnarly submission. That’s gotta be one of the sickest FX loop boards I’ve seen lately. I really want an ARP-87 and that new Caverns looks amazing. Black Fountain is a classic and excellent for short and medium/long washy delays that still articulate well. And shoutouts to the homies at Adventure Audio.

I’ve been a bit behind on videos I have to put out and I’ve been sitting on this trio of incredible dirt pedals from S&K Pedals. @crusherdestroyer really has some top tier designs here. 

You may remember the Iron Giant from my video last year. You can click this and check that out!

The Iron Giant is a super flexible marshall style distortion pedal with a familiar six knob setup that is capable of an awful lot of sounds. I often find myself riffing a shit load of Mastodon songs through it, but it’s capable of a wide range of distortion sounds. 

The ExMortis is a filthy fuzz that’s set full bore equipped with only a volume knob that should probably just be maxed out as well if you’re not a punk ass. It’s really awesome with baritones and other downtuned stuff and it’s heavy as piss. I have a clip on my Instagram from a few weeks ago of that bastard. Definitely check that out. 

The last and certainly not least rad pedal here is the Heartbreaker Overdrive. This bad lad is a CMOS based drive that can handle some lighter crunch, knock out some mid gain rock tones, and on the upper end of the gain knob even seems to fuzz out a bit. It’s no slouch. Awesome for a lot of Coheed and Cambria and The Dear Hunter stuff I like to jam around on but capable of some heavy shit. It’ll surprise you. 

I’ve been having a lot of fun with these pedals and if you’re in the market for some dirt. These come in at some of the most affordable prices for boutique dirt, made by one of the raddest dudes, and sound better than most dirt pedals that come through my way. I should have some new videos of all of these very soon. If there is anything you want to hear, let me know!

Dumb question: I wanna mod the old Holy Grail, so it runs on standart boss power supplies. Can I just de-solder the original adapter and put a "normal" one in it? If so, why didn't they do it in the first place?

Yes just watch the polarity and, that's just EHX's style I guess. Drilling those enclosures is kind of a pain in the ass too, but doable.

What kind of offboard wiring do u use? I've always been using the one suggested on tagboard-effects but i recently saw a discussion on facebook where people recommended different methods? Are there any better ways out there?

Tagboard's method works great. There are only a few options for off board wiring with a 3pdt and Tagboard's grounds the effect input in bypass, which I've never had an issue with. Of course there are different ways to physically route the wires to achieve the same thing but that boils down to personal preference and aesthetics.
