the delgados are a family of medical practitioners . both caesar and loren are doctors and so were their parent/s . it’s almost set in stone that if you are part of this delgado clan , you had to work in the medical field .

cruz’ path has always been set on becoming a doctor because that was what his parents wanted . in fact , he was planning on taking a pre-med course for college until he discovered he had skills in football . ever since , he focused most of his time and energy on football . he realized that being a doctor wasn’t his dream , he didn’t want to pursue that career and he was only doing it because of his parents .

when he told his parents about not wanting to become a doctor , they weren’t happy about it . his mom was disappointed in him but decided to support him eitherways . his dad on the other hand , he was very disappointed and changed his attitude towards cruz . he barely talked to cruz anymore , treated him like an outsider in the family . he didn’t even go to any of cruz’ games in high school . caesar made cruz feel that he was a disappointment . 

it didn’t help that his younger brother jude was the one pursuing the medical career instead of him . it caused a rift between the two brothers because jude didn’t want to become a doctor either and he thinks that cruz is being selfish for choosing football as his career path . 

it was tough for cruz because no one really supported him with his life choice . he feels like a big disappointment even if he was just pursuing what he really wants to do . he can’t help but blame himself for caesar and jude hating him and constantly beats himself up about it . he tries his best out in the field for his family because he doesn’t want to disappoint them any further .

cruz portrays himself as a goofball . he’s the one who loves to prank others , the first one on the dance floor embarrassing himself . he’s practically the life of the party . he’s the one who flirts shamelessly and starts conversations with a pick-up line , acting confident about himself . he’s the type of guy who pretends like he doesn’t give two shits about you while you cry but would message you in the middle of the night if you’re okay .

but cruz is also non-confrontational . he prefers settling things in a calm manner and would probably walk away if you start arguing with him . he’s one hell of an overthinker too . he pretends like what you said or did didn’t hurt him , but he’ll end up thinking about it for three days . opening up is a struggle for him because he doesn’t want to emotionally affect other people and he thinks they don’t really care . he’d much rather show them his fun side than his raw emotional side .
