Summary: Wei Ying can’t find anger in Lan Zhan for leaving. There’s no rage, no pure spite. He doesn’t need to forgive the man. Forgiveness means there was something to blame Lan Zhan for in the first place. No, Wei Ying blames himself for caring. He cannot forgive himself for still loving Lan Zhan because he does, irrevocably and undeniably. And now? Now, Wei Ying is tired. (Or: the driver’s license au that has nothing to do with the song or driving) Kay's comments: Ah, wonderful angst! Wei Ying wakes up in the hospital after an accident to find Lan Zhan by his side. Lan Zhan, who had broken up with him months ago because he wasn't brave enough to stand against his family. I love how little anger Wei Ying felt and how it was more exhaustion and tiredness and honestly, despite the tags, I'd say this story has a happy ending too! Excerpt: Wei Ying is lost. “What...why are you even here?” he asks, shuffling to sit up. This merely startles Lan Zhan into motion as he helps Wei Ying reach a comfortable position, a steady, strong hand on his back. Wei Ying barely contains a shiver, relishing in the warmth burning on his skin through the thing fabric of the hospital gown. Lan Zhan’s touch has never been something he could deny his desires for. It will never not affect him. “Careful,” Lan Zhan murmurs before straightening up. He takes a small step back and tilts his head. “The hospital called me. Apparently, I am your emergency contact and Power of Attorney.” Wei Ying stills. Oh. That.
pov wei wuxian, modern setting, modern no magic, hospitals, hurt wie wuxian, blood and injury, post-break up, breaking up & making up, getting back together, angst with a happy ending, hurt/comfort, sad wei wuxian, car accidents, @cryptenhope

I just realized how old it’s raining it’s pouring is now. But do not fear because I’m working on the second chapter. I’m surprised people are still finding it. Thank you to all your support! Quite a bit of editing is going into this but the draft is alive!
Some snippets cause idk when the final draft will breathe life:
#1
Lan Zhan reads every sentence, every word, every breath Wei Ying has offered him, all his brilliance bound between pages he never expected Lan Zhan to open.
The name of the man who feared the unknown is written with a simple acknowledgement on the second page of every book—
—For Lan Zhan
And nothing more.
#2
Wei Ying looks up at Lan Zhan with mischief dancing in his smile, no intentions beyond a need to tease him.
“Then who am I to you, huh?”
He laughs and covers his mouth with the back of his hand as mirth shines in the creases of his phoenix eyes.
In the corner of Lan Zhan’s vision, he sees an autumn leaf drift in circles and land on the top of Wei Ying’s head. Almost instantly, Lan Zhan stops and reaches out without a second thought. Wei Ying goes still and wide-eyed when Lan Zhan brushes off the leaf and strokes aside the loose strands with trembling fingers. Pale and calloused from qin strings, they hold on for a second longer, savoring the excuse that allows another touch, no matter how brief.

I was rereading one of my favorite danmeis and god I love the “I would let the whole world burn for you” trope. Like, wangxian much? LWJ and WWX are both very honorable people, yes, and willing to do the right thing. But I just know, if pushed to that point (come on it’s canon too) LWJ would fight any obstacle if it meant WWX would be alive. LWJ will always choose WWX first. LWJ will always choose WWX. Same with WWX, of course. WWX would sacrifice himself over and over again, would feel pain in an eternal cycle, if it meant LWJ would live.
Wangxian is the definition of unconditional love—of love without terms and conditions. They protected and took care of each other, not because they expected anything in return. Fuck, come on, Lan Wangji fought 33 elders (I think??) just to protect WWX. My dude never expected reciprocation.
It’s not fair, man. I hate them (joke) 😭😭
