#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wen ning#wei wuxian#wen qing#jiang cheng#Truly Massive disclaimer here: I am a Jiang Cheng enjoyer. I like his character. I enjoy that he is very flawed and volatile.#This episode of the audio drama has a lot of great breakdown scenes featuring JC - and they all deserve a feature.#But underlying this comic is a small meta comment of 'ah man I have too many comics of JC just wailing sadly'#My goal is to draw 6-8 comics per episode - I sometimes have to truncate and cut good scenes out.#Especially when a large majority is just different flavours of trauma and toxic relationships to your self-worth.#I would also like to make a note here that just because you lose the ability to do something that is very tied to your core identity-#-does not mean your life is over. It will feel like the end of the world. It will send you into a spiral of grief. It will hurt so badly.#Sometimes we do not realize how tied up our identities can be in certain things until we are cut loose.#You don't lose yourself. I promise the pain will fade in time. I promise you will find other things to tether you. I promise you will be ok#Life moves forwards. Time moves forwards. You move forwards.#Ego death just means an opportunity for ego rebirth. You are never committed to being the same person forever.#To wrap this around to JC: Yeah I love the twist with the core transfer but man I would have loved to see JC accept the loss.#Obviously it happens for a reason (story) but I can have my AUs. I can have these 'what-ifs'.

Mxtx love interests and their relationships with captivity are fascinating and all, but I’d rather just focus on how funny Hua Cheng’s is in particular.
We have Luo Binghe‘s creepy replica bamboo hut and the tragic horror of watching him succumb to his worst impulses and try destroying the world to trap Shen Qingqiu by his side.
We have Lan Wangji warring internally with himself for years over his smothering need to hide Wei Wuxian from the world and save him from himself.
And then there’s Hua Cheng
Professional Gege Catch and Release Wildlife Expert Hua Cheng.
This man is a gege rehabilitation facilitator who does what he loves and loves what he does.
He tags his gege with a gps tracker so he can study his migration patterns. He humanely traps and relocates his gege whenever he’s strayed into danger.
If you hit a gege with your car, all you need to do is call Hua Cheng and he’ll be there with an animal control slip leash, a GoPro to promote his TikTok campaign promoting awareness of gege welfare and conservation to the masses, and Yin Yu is on the phone preparing the treatment center for a new arrival.
He’s one of those guys who lovingly cares for a feral cat colony in his backyard, providing handmade housing with heating and regular check ups.
He’s insane don’t get me wrong. But his crippling self doubt and unbreakable compulsion to provide merged in such a weird way, it comes off a little more wildlife rescue than I think is intended.

When we're looking at why Wei Wuxian took so long to even consider that Lan Wangji might really like him, I think we should maybe place more weight on that time when they were trapped in a cave together at around age eighteen, and Lan Wangji told him his dad was dying and started to cry and Wei Wuxian was like SHIT and fidgeted awkwardly for a while like ahhhhh I hate when people cry especially men what do I do????
And then he tried to find something to say and Lan Wangji was like 'shut up' and he shut up, and Lan Wangji said 'you're a loathsome person' and he shut up so hard he left him alone for three entire days.
Like if I spent three days trapped in hell with someone, restraining myself from reaching out for human interaction because not subjecting them to my personality was literally the only thing I could do to help with their state of misery.
I would have a real hard time letting go of the understanding that the thing this person wanted from me was not to have to deal with me.

No, but to suggest that Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng only ever had the relationship of a master and servant and that the only thing that held them together was debt and obligation on Wei Wuxian's part is such a wild take considering how absolutely unhinged the both of them are when it conscerns the other.

Jiang Cheng: [staring out the window while it's raining]
Nie Huaisang: Wei-xiong! He's brooding again!
Wei Wuxian: [spraying Jiang Cheng with water] Bad, Jiang Cheng! We've talked about this!
Jiang Cheng: [hisses]

Thinking about Wei Wuxian's first meeting with Jin Ling again and how fucking funny and delightful it is. Like, let's put the "WWX, you probably could have EASILY guessed this was your nephew if you had spent just thirty seconds thinking about this person's identity" aside completely for a moment. Let's just pretend here that Jin Ling isn't even his nephew. Not a factor.
Wei Wuxian is still in the body of MO XUANYU, who was kicked out of the Jin Sect in disgrace and resorted to sacrificial rituals to commit murder. He KNOWS this. He KNOWS that Mo Xuanyu and the Jin Sect have a bad history and that the Jin Sect considers him an utter embarrassment that they want nowhere near them, and that powerful people will enforce these things with violence. He WILL be recognized (Jin Ling recognizes his crazy uncle Mo Xuanyu immediately) and any actions he takes here will probably be noticed and reported on. Publicly starting shit as Mo Xuanyu especially may cause the Jin Sect to angrily hunt him down later.
So, like, it makes sense to be cautious! The Jin Sect were his enemies in his last life, too, and even if Mo Xuanyu had ZERO relation to the Jin Sect whatsoever and was a complete stranger to them, Wei Wuxian should want to stay out of their way lest they somehow learn that the Yiling Patriarch is back. It's very reasonable to assume that the Jin Sect would raise a new killing mob against him immediately. Wei Wuxian doesn't really know the current political landscape at all, and so it would be smart to stand back, observe the hunt for a little bit, and avoid interacting with the Jin Sect at least for a little while.
All it would take is Wei Wuxian standing back while this fuss with the hundreds of spiritual nets accidentally catching other cultivators happens. He could just hide behind a tree, let Jin Ling and his entourage go by him, and try to find some other way to get the poor people down. All it would take is Wei Wuxian NOT calling out a Jin Sect cultivator for being a "spoiled rich brat".
And he fails that "test". Immediately.
