This is why I always say some form of "thank you" every time a fic author uploads a new chapter to a fic I'm reading.

a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.

Plus there are plenty of other books to read. So many finished series. So many stand-alone stores just waiting to be read!

I don't mean this badly but as someone who is both put of the Acotar/SjM Fandom and the Asoiaf Fandoms I'm getting easier tired of hearing hem complain about the book not coming out yet after years. Because yeah it's been a while and we all want to read it. But don't talk to me about Authors taking a while to finish a book until you've looked up whe the last book in the Asoiaf series was published and sawit was over 15 years ago.

Yet again not saying your emotions aren't valid I'm just saying authors take a while and after A House Of Flames And Shadows it's clear we all want quality over quantity so maybe don't complain when it takes a hot minute.

Did you just skim the part where Feyre noted that Lucien clearly held back from strangling Jurian or is that fact just too damn inconvenient for you so you pretend it doesn't exist?

Here's the conversation in question, for those who want context!

A hateful smile from Jurian. “Does your little mate have a rival?” “My mate is none of your concern.” Jurian shrugged. “She shouldn’t be any of yours, either, considering she’s probably been fucked by half the Illyrian army by now.” I was fairly certain that only centuries of training kept Lucien from leaping over the table to rip out Jurian’s throat.

It's from Feyre' POV. Jurian is still playing a role (and part of that role involves being an asshole) and Lucien knows not to fuck things up for his own allies as well by beating the shit out of Jurian.

Lucien didn't say anything BECAUSE he held back, but clearly was pissed. To act like he doesn't defend Elain at all is intellectually dishonest.

While I agree Lucien is far from perfect, your regular attempt to assassinate his character is just really fucking... weird.

My client would like everyone to be aware that she is DEEPLY appalled with the outright lies that have been passed around about her mate. Mr. Vanserra has never and would never laugh at a rape joke aimed at Miss Archeron, or at any persons.

Miss Archeron also requests that you read the words on the page with more care before slinging slander and defamation at her mate.

I have the e/riel tags blocked and tend to block e/riel's on sight as well so I usually miss all the drama (not that I want it) but sometimes their bullshit still makes it through the cracks when they give their posts different tags.

Elain's name literally means "fawn" in Welsh. Nesta also has Welsh origins. So the person trying to tie Elain to Azriel with Hebrew is either just an idiot OR a dishonest asshole.

I find people who use such tactics utterly distasteful and foul.

Truly think the e/riels are trying to recruit new gullible readers to their ship by 100% lying about Lucien’s and Azriel’s narrative.

-A few months ago we had the lie that Lucien laughed at Jurian’s rape joke about Elain and Illyrians. When the text clearly states that it was only through years of control that kept Lucien from attacking him.

-A few days ago we had someone claiming Lucien is an abuse enabler and was trying to kidnap Feyre from the night court to return her to her abuser.

-The other day I came across a lie saying Azriel was excited about buying Elain a solstice gift but Rhys told him not to, when truthfully Azriel asked “are we suppose to buy the sisters presents?” SISTERS not Elain. Once again Azriel lumps Elain into the sisters.

-A few weeks ago I came across someone commenting that the name Elain has Hebrew origins just like Azriel, which is completely false. Elain’s name can be translated into Hebrew like any name can but it has no origins in Hebrew. And I searched for 2 days for this, and the only search results that popped up that showed Elain is Hebrew were ACOTAR Reddit and Tumblr posts.

I fully understand wanting to endorse your ship to new readers but please don’t lie and create false narratives. Please don’t ruin good characters just make new gullible readers think the worst of them. There is no reason to destroy another male’s good moral character to try and promote your own male. There is plenty of canon proof that Elriel is possible. And yes I admit there is canon proof that Elain and Azriel could be endgame, its not strong proof but it’s on the page, and that doesn’t mean I think they are. Because the parallel character storytelling that SJM is doing for Elain and Lucien is just as important to their endgame possibility. Plus SJM is doing a lot to keep us out of Elain’s PoV and to me that is a huge sign that what is being said on page by her is not matching what she feels internally.

I try not the let things get to me too much, especially when it comes to ruminating on something to the point where it takes up my time for hours on end. However, I’m never going to shut up about the whole saveafox thing. Mikayla Raines is a terrible excuse for an animal lover and frankly I hope she gets what’s coming to her. AKA, a big fat notice that her “sanctuary” is going to be shut down and all her animals are to be put in an actual, proper center for rehabilitation, because fuck knows what those animals have been through.

Unfortunately I highly doubt this will happen anytime soon, as her grip on the public is so tight due to peoples interest in what they deem cute.

I figured Rhysand made everyone forget about them when he cast the spell to wipe everyone's memories of Velaris. Basically, he multi-tasked as quickly as he could.

A minor plot hole by SJM but not a big deal since it can be easily explained by just saying "Rhys did it!"

So … Azriel and Cassian and Mor are so famous throughout Prythian that literally everyone seems to know of them and have something to say but in 50 years under the mountain no one ever asked ay yo Rhys where your boys at? No evil horrible enemies ratted him out to Amarantha while they thought he was literally betraying all of them? It just NEVER CAME UP?!?! Tamlin and Lucien didn’t use it once they were stuck there as well???

I just … I’m begging for any of it to make any sense.

Lucien who stood by Tamlin's side while he abused and locked Feyre up while urging her to give him time, as if she hadn't been the one who was tortured and murdered. And then he tried to bring her back to her abuser just so he would calm down and not destroy his own manor. Ffs he was willing to winnow her right to Tamlin's claws.

I truly can't fathom how many people love Lucien, I don't hate him but definitely don't love him.

I think some of you need a reminder that not even casual readers are unified.

Before I joined the fandom on Reddit and eventually here, I did not take part in any online discourse about ACOTAR and didn't for over a year after finishing Silver Flames.

I was a casual reader. Taking part in fandoms for books was just never something I've ever done before.

I had one friend I talked to about the series (she was the one who suggested the books to me) and she resisted the urge to spoil the books; we didn't even talk about them at all until after I finished Silver Flames (cause then I had A LOT to talk about lmao).

I was not aware of any special chapters (if my friend was aware she never said) or that there was a cross over with Crescent City (I hate Urban Fantasy, had to listen to the graphic audio books to get through them after repeated prompting by my friend).

Before Silver Flames I was in the Elain/Azriel camp.

By the end of Silver Flames I was in the Gwyn/Azriel + Hopeful Elain/Lucien camps.

Because that just seemed the most obvious to me as a casual reader.

(I would develop my Azris and Neris crackships later on after joining the fandom)

My friend asked me who I was shipping and who I thought was going to be the lead in the next book.

I told her my thoughts (Gwynriel/Elucien + Elain gets to be main lead in the next book), and she responded with a "Wow holy shit." She was legit surprised and a bit confused, which in turn confused me. That was a fun convo.

She actually ships Elain with absolutely no one (wants Elain to be single) and Azriel with Bryce (I had to ask who that was, and then she basically forced me into trying to read CC which failed so later on I asked her for some spoilers on who the hell Bryce even was) and she thinks the next book is going to be centered around Azriel, but that Elain will only show up a few times as a secondary female lead because of their budding but ultimately doomed relationship. Basically Elain is a angsty plot-device for Azriel but nothing more.

My friend is a casual reader (she apparently hates social media in general too) but was already a fan of SJM because of her TOG books, which I still haven't read (don't think I will either). She had to wait for me to finish listening to HOSAF to gush over it with me. Even after listening to CC I'm still unsure of Brycriel but I can see why my friend loves that ship so much.

She understands why I'm a Gwynriel/Elucian gal. Elriel just doesn't even register for either of us as a potential/valid ship; after all, why would it, when we read the words written by SJM that made it "obvious" to both of us that the author clearly has different plans?

It wasn't until I got onto Reddit that I realized how divided the fandom is on the major ships and who the leading characters will be for the upcoming books.

My friend is still convinced of Bryciel even after we both read the special chapters (I had to tell her about their existence, and I only learned about them because of Reddit). It just reinforced my own belief in Gwynriel.

We clearly all have different ideas of what is "obvious" as readers.

Just because SJM said it was "obvious" does not magically make it so; she's also allowed to change her mind. Hell, she could have been lying just to make us chase scraps while we await the next book.

"But the casual readers are typically Elriels!" one might say (I've seen similar written on here and Reddit).

Well, I was a casual reader and I stopped being an Elriel by the end of Silver Flames with no outside influence. My friend, who is still a casual reader, was never an Elriel to begin with. One popular ship does not get to claim ownership over casual readers, they're not a bloody hive mind and your confirmation bias proves nothing.

So, fellow ACOTAR fans, not even the casual readers are united on who is going to end up with who and who is going to be a main lead for the next book. Anyone claiming otherwise is delusional as fuck and ought to be dismissed.
