I always thought it was just a super naughty fantasy he had before going into the kiln. Like maybe a really vivid wet dream Wu Ming had.
I really, really can't see Hua Cheng, who knows they are in a tricky situation, and is anxious about people getting into to his secret shrine cave ever pausing at some point to add another mural. Especially not one of a moment he has no clear memory of.
Also didn't the revision change what happened at Bezi hill to happening at Yunjun mountain or something?
Ok, so to my longterm (or shorter-term since this discourse just came up again) tgcf followers, you know I’m a proponent of the “the unseen mural was the temple stabbing scene” theory, but now I’m probably gonna have to change it to account for the edits. Because now in the mural scene, while Mu Qing still lists the certain events portrayed in the murals in chronological order, he no longer mentions Bei Hill, but he also says that the mural history extends to Yunjun Mountain events, aka the ghost bridegroom arc!
So now my new question becomes: what’s an event that happened to Xie Lian after the ghost bridegroom arc but before the kiln arc that Feng Xin and Mu Qing would not been aware of but would have horrified them into preventing Xie Lian from looking and make them think that Hua Cheng had nefarious, perverted designs on Xie Lian? My money is not on the coffin-sharing scene during the Blackwater arc.

How awkward would it be if for some reason Jun Wu's other three retainers were able to have human forms post canon?
Like they can't leave the Tonglu area because they are still closely attached to their mountains, so whenever MNQ has to go on a supply run or something, it's just Jun Wu, and his former friends he murdered.

This one probably feels like it's going to come out of nowhere, but I've been rewatching Batman the Animated Series, and I really, really love the idea of Xie Lian having been a mentor to Bruce at some point. I can also see Hua Cheng contributing to a lot of Wayne Enterprises altruistic programs, and being able to provide a lot of info to help Batman out.
I just feel like they would really understand someone who deals with his trauma by going out in a costume to help people, and beat the shit out of criminals.
purposely not tagging BtAS, as I have no idea what the state of the fandom is currently.

Thinking again about how Xie Lian didn’t fail Xianle because it wasn’t a test but a trap. Every decision in that arc was manipulated to make the war as cruel and soul-destroying as possible. BWX failed his kingdom, and he saw a similarity in XL. He orchestrated every single moment of that downfall, pulling multiple puppet strings from 5 different angles and adding consequences to XL that only he had the power to hand out. Like he didn’t lose because he was arrogant or naive or wrong he lost because it there was genuinely no way he coulda won. It wasn’t a test it was a trap.
#YES#THANK YOU!#I don't understand how people can get through all of TGCF where we are BLATANTLY TOLD it was Jun Wu's fault#and people still come away with “BUT XIE LIAN BAD FOR TRYING TO HELP PEOPLE!”#WHAT BOOKS DID YOU READ?#tgcf#xie lian#tgcf meta#jun wu

I don't know that I actually have a very high tolerance for pain, it's just that my tolerance for pain is massive compared to my tolerance for being itchy.
Guess who gets persistent itchy eczema patches!
It's funny having a very high tolerance for pain but a very low tolerance for other forms of discomfort. Like yea tattoos piercings cramps shots cuts bruises whatever thats nothing. But I better not get nauseous or hear a loud sound. Or I'll die

What if Wei Wuxian accidentally reanimated a really pissed off dinosaur. Like it was so full of resentment it doesn't mater it fossilized.

That would be up to any author who adopts this bunny.
Personally, I think yes. There's got to be reasons Hua Cheng developed his reputation. The denizens of Ghost City, being the denizens of Ghost City are all very happy their Chengzhu got the god he was after*, and are always happy to see His Highness when he visits.
*I also imagine some of the ghosts try to get captured by certain gods. After all the heavens sound like a pretty cushy place, and some think it might be worth the risk. There is a particularly strong competition between some women to see who can get "captured" Pei Ming. He feels very harassed sometimes.
AU where Jun Wu failed in his attempt to destroy the heavens, and has been imprisoned since then, but can't be completely sealed away and still uses Tonglu to cause trouble in the mortal realm. The heavens have developed a system like the curse shackles, allowing a god to take control of a ghost king, or other powerful troublesome ghost. Xie Lian is famous for his "defeat" and "capture" of the infamous and terrifying Hua Cheng, even though he, being completely honest, keeps insisting he never actually caught him, Hua Cheng just thought turning himself in to Xie Lian was the perfect way to get to stay by his side. The ghost shackle meant to subdue the majority of his power doesn't even work, because Hua Cheng is already so loyal to Xie Lian it just completely negates the things abilities. He just likes to wear it so everyone knows he belongs to Xie Lian.

OMG He absolutely would! He'd be using it to send messages to Feng Xin, Mu Qing, and He Xuan just to be a little shit.
@csilla-nocturne consider Hua Cheng making his own font so even typing can't make his writing legible

Hua Cheng would actually write a ton of Hualian himself. People can read it now that typing has been invented.
Hualian living to the modern day and laughing together about how much mortals have changed about their story over the years

I've been playing R.E.P.O. with friends, and it has been so much fun, but now I can't help but imagine Nie Huaisang hosting a lobby, where he gets to record:
Wei Wuxian keeps singing the "I Love" meme, but throws in a really quick Lan Zhan all the time.
Jiang Cheng is chasing him around trying to get him to stop with the fucking meme.
Jin Zixuan, trying to have a better relationship with JC, and WWX to impress Jiang Yanli. It's not working, he regrets everything.
Wen Ning is trying, but constantly running into monsters.
Lan Wangji only joined the game because WWX did, but now that's he's figured it out after an awkward start is the only reason they ever make it past level 1.

I was always a little confused about where that interpretation of his character came from. No he's not outgoing and gregarious, but the way acts toward others in the books never came off as him hating everyone but Xie Lian to me.
I really disagree with the idea that "hua cheng hates everyone but Xie Lian" because it's more that we just hardly ever get to see him interact with someone he doesn't have personal beef with.
like the people in ghost city seem to genuinely like him. he's known to provide protection to ghosts being hunted by cultivators. he literally *ripped out his eye* to protect a group of random humans. he's not an evil demon king with a soft spot for this one guy. he is genuinely kind to people who aren't Xie Lian sometimes, especially people who exist outside heaven's sphere of "respectability" ie ghosts.
is he rude and abrasive? yes, but there is a difference between being nice and being kind. are his morals dubious? yes, but so is heaven; hua cheng just doesn't try to hide it. Hua Cheng is completely sincere and is transparent about all his actions both good and bad which contrasts him from the cover-ups and false politeness of heaven
