Preface
The arena was the international bidding project based on the design-build method. The Hanhwa E&C. won the project through the value engineering worked with CSSE. The total steel tonnage of the winner was 9000tons compared to the other bidder submitted 15,000tons. The value engineering was the critical factor to get the project. The construction was progressed by the fast track method for the limited construction time. The roof of arena located in a heavy seismic zone was designed sophisticatedly by isolated system using LRB (Lead Rubber Bearing) and checked by the non-linear stability analysis. Erection engineering of the roof was carried out for the safety during erection time to prevent mishap to earthquakes and typhoons.

The structure for the 640m tall Digital Media City Tower is conceived as a highly efficient, easily constructed, repetitive, and robust combination of a rigid central core and perimeter mega columns.
The lateral wind load resisting system is comprised of interior reinforced concrete core walls coupled with reinforced concrete outrigger walls spanning between the core and four mega columns on each of the broad faces of the tower and two mega columns on the narrow faces.
The outrigger walls are strategically located at each of the two story mechanical floors and link the core to the exterior mega columns in order to bring additional gravity loads to the perimeter while resisting uplift wind forces.
Structural stiffness & occupancy comfort
The Digital Media City Tower is a slender tower with residential occupancies in the upper portion of the building. Accelerations due to the motion of the building structure in the wind must be controlled to acceptable levels.
To control the acceleration due to vortex shedding, the tower is designed with a varying profile which disturbs the formation of uniform vortices.
