i apologize for not having original sources on here initially and linking some incorrect ones. i have since fixed and edited them into the caption of the original post.

i've done a little digging to try to determine if these photos were AI generated. i cannot properly say which photos are or aren't AI and i'm not discounting that some of these photos very well can be. but i don't want misinformation spread that all the present photos are. i've linked some of the earliest sources or what i believe is the original photography. please correct me if some of the sourcing is wrong!!

pink petal stairs - ig source flora.forager (2018)

orange marigold stairs - weheartit/earliest tumblr source (2019), but it is not uncommon to find similar growing occurrences like shutterstock (2023), reddit (2023)

tulip stairs (initially red tulips, but edited to be yellow) - article source (published 2010, edited 2017), i can't find an exact image source however it was available on glimboo/photobucket in 2008 from the "serenity4u" album

white and green stairs -ig source thediggersclub (2018), plus another site in the UK (2020)

blue stairs - flickr source Rozanne (2008)

purple stairs - blogspot source (2012), earliest tumblr edit (2012)

to my knowledge AI generated pictures being labeled as art has been more popularized in 2022. that doesn't mean that the images i've posted/linked weren't edited prior to me, but i am more doubtful that they are AI generated as more commonly known and done today. especially since i'm not sure how advanced our technology for the generation was in those earlier dates.

disclaimer: i am no expert in AI, editing, photography, or plants in general. all i've done was a reverse image search through TinEye and Google Images and done my best to find the earliest posting of these pictures from a more credible looking source outside of repostings from pinterest, twitter, and tumblr! i am not defending AI "art" and the sources i've provided are not conclusive but i hope it may be more helpful. use your own discretion :)

i recognize that using pinterest is likely not the best way to go about things since there is often lack of sourcing and tagging, as the reblog mentioned. i will be doing my best to incorporate proper sourcing from now on. that being said, i do not condone the use of AI generation in an attempt to replace or compete against artists. i am aware that it scrapes against them unknowingly and unwillingly. i'll make sure to do better research from now on but encourage others to do the same if they are skeptical!
