regram @emmy.and.books The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield ------ At the beginning of the story I was confused about what is so great about this book. But, oh my, was I wrong. I really can't remember when was the last time that some book pulled me in as much as this one did. We follow our main character Margaret Lea, daughter of an antiquarian bookshop owner, who is now a young woman living above that bookshop. She grew up surrounded by books and is an amateur biographer. At the very beginning of the novel she receives a letter from a famous writer, Vida Winter, to come to her home a few days from that moment. She suspects that she is called to write Vidas biography and she is right, even though she is not sure why would Vida pick her of all the professional biographers out there. But, Vida is a very talented storyteller and is known for deceiving journalists with made up stories about her own life so Margaret Lea wants her to tell three checkable facts before she accepts this job and the story goes from there. It is a novel about twins, family, books, secrets, madness, tragedy and trust. And, there is a big old castle involved. All of this, too me, sounds like a perfect gothic autumnal read so if you fancy that, do check it out. #book #bookreview #bookstagram #instabooks #lovereading #lovebooks #autumn #autumnreading #bookandnature #bookdragon #librarybook http://ift.tt/2BywE3Z

regram @ianreads My thoughts and opinions weren’t affected by the author or anything surrounding it, my thoughts and opinions were my own😊 @maxwannow (who was kind enough to send me a copy of his book) created a sick and disgusting society called Neoba Scientific Corporation (if I’m not mistaken) where everyone is allowed to do anything they like. Absolute Freedom. It’s a really messed up society to be involved in. It is weird, bizarre, crazy, and a bunch of synonymous words to fill it up. This book is the weirdest thing I’ve read SO FAR IN MY LIFE! I would rate this book a 4/5 stars. This book was a fast read! I read it in one sitting, I’m not even exaggerating. Btw, did I tell you that this is an adult book? Yeah. Sex, drugs, and a bunch of adult stuff are in this book and if you are down for it then PICK IT UP! It’s available in Amazon now! That’s it for the undetailed part of the review. I went in without knowing what it’s about and it DEFINITELY surprised me so I recommend you do the same. However, if you want to know more then let me tell you. (Without spoilers of course) We follow this newly wed couple named Bethany and Neal who decided to reside in Neoba, which is a society run by a gypsy who won a lottery and made her own society with the money she won. However, if you want to live in this society, your citizenship will be transferred to Neoba, which means that you are no longer a citizen in your old country. Neoba is basically a society where a bunch of crazy people live. Just after they arrived at the place, they discover horrible stuff that happen inside and that made them kinda have second thoughts about joining the Neoba community and the story kinda moves along from there. The story was written in 3rd person so we kinda see everybody that appears in the story and not just a single character. We also see the Queen and the Princess’ lives and it was so interesting. Going into this book, I would recommend that you ready yourself from the weird things because THIS IS REALLY A WEIRD BOOK. A bunch of crazy stuff happens (I know it’s already redundant) but IT IS REALLY CRAZY! http://ift.tt/2AeKRof

regram @hareemtariq ‘All he’s ever wanted is to be possessed. There’s no evil here, only love. God save us from a world that can’t tell the difference.’ Kamila Shamsie (The Congregation) . . . ‘The Djinn falls in Love’ is a collection of short stories written by different writers all revolving around the theme of djinns and their interaction with humans. For me, someone who has always found the topic of djinns fascinating, this book was a fuel to my interest. The stories in this book don’t depict djinns as good or bad but rather in between, and I think this is what makes them so gripping and spellbinding (pun intended)! The most important bit about these stories is that most of these stay with you. Their characters linger in your mind and make you both want to have an interaction with djinns and not seeing one ever in your life. My rating: 4.5/5 . . . #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookreview #book #vsco #vscocam #vscopakistan http://ift.tt/2AbojEV

regram @sushirainbow Moxie girls fight back!! Hey guys how's it going book review time this time from a newer release that I heard so many great things about. Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu was a great book but it was also a bad book. Let me explain. The concept is phenomenal I really appreciate it and I needed it in my life for sure however sometimes I felt like there was more that she could have done with it. For instance there were some instances that i believe were intended to be diverse moments that weren't expanded and if they were it seemed like the main character was too ignorant for her own good. The book makes you think which is great and gripping in the middle and end of the story however the beginning was a little muddled with things being explained but not in the best detail. I really enjoyed the story being set in East Rockport though i have never been there I live near Galveston beach the description of the beaches in the book was beautiful however some of the Texas aspects that were included in the story though i know it was to help solidify the setting I was not a fan Overall I give this book 4 out of 5 stars because of these points. #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagramfeature #avidreaderfeature #avidreader #bookish #photography #amateur #photographer #bibliophile #booknerd #bookish #moxie #jennifermathieu #bookishart #beautifulcoverart #beautifulart #bookstagrammer http://ift.tt/2ia8Nm8

regram @joe.stalder Yes, I finished The Inquisition by Taran Matharu today. Review below!⬇️ The number of unread books on my shelf is dwindling, only a few left that I have left to read! CR: Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch • • • • The Inquisition Review: This book was extremely addicting! I finished Malice Thanksgiving night, and began reading this book the night after. I also read it Saturday night, and continued to read it Sunday morning and night, leaving 2 chapters remaining for today. I just couldn't put it down! The characters are so interesting, and I love finding out which characters are connected to which demons. One of my favorite parts of this series is the demonology glossary in the back of the book, which describes the appearance and special features of each demon. My personal favorite demon is the Manticore. Overall though, this book and series is very well written and very entertaining throughout. I would recommend it to any reader. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #writer#writing#reader#reading#books#novels#amwriting#dragons#fantasy#manticores#writingcommunity#writingcommunityofinstagram#writingcommunityofig#ilovewriting#ilovebooks#bookreview#goodbooks#fantasybooks#theinquisition#thesummonerseries#summoner#taranmatharu#tsi#theshadowinsignia#workinprogress#scorpio#inspiration#readthisbook http://ift.tt/2hXhAUA

regram @bookish_nerd_101 Unearthed by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner = 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ⭐ ___ I finished it in time for tonight's event! :D I really liked this. The characters are fleshed out and well-developed, the writing is good and the plot is fascinating. I love the cross between archaeology and history and space and the cliffhanger was great. I cannot wait for whenever book 2 is released. Super pumped! I believe Unearthed will be released in the US in January. regram @tq_reads The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery...The story of an unlikely friendship between precocious twelve year old Paloma, her polymath concierge Renee and a wealthy Japanese man named Ozu. I won’t say much more, other than it’s a story that is meant for those who consider themselves to be more inconspicuous. I’m not sure I loved this book while I was reading it. I found it a bit slow, and probably since it’s translated had to look up many words while I read. Now, however, when I look back at it I can’t help but feel it provoked more thought and emotion than I realized. It’s heavy on the character development, but if you’re in the mood for something a bit slower and different then this would be a good read. . . . . #theeleganceofthehedgehog #murielbarbery #fiction #newyorktimesbestseller #europaeditions #bookstagram #libraryofbookstagram #bookish #bookshelf #bookreccomendation #bookreview #bookphotography #indigoweekend #bookfeaturepage #yyc #yycreads #read150 #canada #canadareads #bookblogger #canadianblogger #womeninstem #belletristbabe #thereadingwomen #oprahsbookclub #rwbookclub #oursharedshelf @calgarylibrary @chaptersindigo http://ift.tt/2AjRvYB

regram @sydneycbg Doomsday Clock #1 by DC comics. (Press for Review) Written by Geoff Jones, art by Gary Frank. - - Easily the most discussed/ dissected/ studied comic this week was Doomsday Clock. The story the entire Rebirth event has been leading to. If you’ve been living under a rock this is DCs attempt to tie the Watchmen and DC universes together and act as an explanation why Rebirth happened. So get ready for some convoluted comic fun. First off, this book looks amazing. Gary Frank does a great job of recapturing that original Watchmen vibe. The story? Well this is part one of twelve so it would be too early to criticise it (not that that’ll stop some from doing so), but I enjoyed reading this. But let’s be clear this is not a fun book. It’s a very bleak story which is keeping in tone with the original Watchmen. We are reintroduce to the Watchmen world a few years after that’s books events and the world has gone to shit. Who can fix this mess? Apparently only Mr Manhattan. There is some political commentary sprinkled in this book but I don’t feel it’s done as well as Alan Moore’s take on a Regan era America. But like I said this is still the very early stages of this story. I’m intrigued enough to keep reading. This is a book that’s going to start a lot of discussion among DC fans. I feel some people were ready to hate this from the beginning due to their belief no one should touch Watchmen. I sort of understand that POV but come on. Grow up. We’re not rewriting the original here. Just try and enjoy this story for what it truly is. An attempt to reignite interest in stagnating medium. I’m all in. Wait, that’s the tag line of a different series..... - - #comics #comicbooks #readcomics #comicgeek #geek #pulllist #ncbd #scbg #book #bookreview #comicreview #reading #art #newcomicbookday #dc #dccomics #doomsdayclock #watchmen #geoffjones #garyfrank #rebirth #mrmanhattan #superman http://ift.tt/2AiOOXc

regram @alittlehaze I loved the blurb from this book. It sounded like nothing I had read before and I was enchanted by the notion of this bear-hearted girl living among ghosts. It had a very appealing magical realism vibe to it. And the book certainly delivered on that aspect. But something stopped me from truly feeling this story. I frequently felt weary from rather than engaged with the writing style. And I'm not quite sure why. In many respects I think it's a case of me not being the right reader. Although it's nothing like this book, I was frequently reminded of my experience reading Katherine Arden's The Bear and the Nightingale because of the style of writing. Both styles are very beautiful in how very detailed they are regarding the fantastical backgrounds of the books but simply are not to my taste. None of the characters felt particularly memorable to me but mostly I think this was a case of a book not being from my preferred genre (I frequently struggle with fantasy) and I would recommend this to anyone who loves old ghost stories mixed with historical fiction. So sadly for me this felt like an exercise in focus and concentration and my desire to see how things all worked out in the end. A disappointed two and a half stars ______________________ #Bookstagram #IGBooks #IGReads #Bookography #FrancesHardinge #ASkinfulOfShadows #BookReview #BookEveryFewDaysWhenIAmNotFeelingLazyOrHaveNotForgotten http://ift.tt/2k4cw5n
