Keres ends up in Rosas in the newest chapter of 'The Forgotten Traveler'! King Magnifico wants to keep a close eye on her and orders her to accompany him back to his kingdom.
@amyhayanora sketched Keres' new look and I absolutely love it! Once again she has the knack to reach into my head and put my vision to paper.
---------
Turning to look at her, he hummed. “But you can’t enter like that. It will draw too much attention. Last thing we want is my people asking questions and getting worried.”
“I can stay here,” Keres said, motioning towards her ship.
Magnifico didn’t even offer a reply. His expression scrunched slightly and he eyed her up and down. With a flourish of his hand, shimmering light burst around Keres. A long sleeve cotton dress poofed around her. It was a dusty blue with a tan sleeveless apron tied around her waist. Another burst of magic covered her hair, tying it back with a matching handkerchief. Keres held out the dress, at a lost for words, while Magnifico continued mumbling to himself.
“Hmmm… unassuming, but perhaps too much.” He paced around her. “Why would a peasant be let into the castle? Too many questions…” More bursts of magic flourished between them while he talked, Keres’ outfit changing with each one. “Gloves to cover…Long sleeved. No, no, too much like Amaya. But, perhaps… Aha, I’ve done it!”
It took time for the shimmering magic to subside. Keres dared to open her eyes and look down. Her dress was thick with elegant flowers embroidered in the dull golden fabric. A beaded band wrapped beneath her chest, splitting the fabric and revealing a cream colored gown underneath. Satin gloves covered her hands, then disappeared in her loose draped sleeves
“This…” Keres again couldn’t find the words. It was beautiful, magnificent, and yet, very wrong. The fabric itched, and not from texture, but as something that did not belong on her.
“Stand tall,” Magnifico ordered, motioning her to lift her chin up. “Keep quiet and no one will question you.”

We can all blame @rainrain9 for getting me onto TikTok. But I am now, so now all of you must suffer my cringe. I made use of my pngtuber Hina to create a "Let's Ask Hinata" video!
I think I would like to make a whole series of them!! If you have any questions for her, feel free to send in an ask or comment!

They say 'the early bird gets the worm', but what happens when the bird IS the worm?
That's the question that got answered during Hinata's visit to Wonderland in her first story, "True Friends". I have never drawn an actual design for the big guy, and decided it was high time I did so!
The left side of the piece is all of my concept sketches, and the right colored one is my attempt to Disney-fy him.
The Early Worm is a sophisticated fellow! Rather helpful and kind to Hinata and Riku when they run into his burrow. He's about ten times their size and offers them a ride over the Queen's labyrinth to aid them in their search for Alice.
It's been years since I've written him, but he's been on my mind lately. It was fun finalizing a design for him!

Hello all! I’m hoping to reconnect with the OCxCanon crowd of the Kingdom Hearts fandom. Haven’t ever been particularly active in that sphere on tumblr before, but I feel like I’m not seeing as much OC content as I used to back in the day on any site
That being said—if you’re an OCxCanon fan or you have any OCs or self inserts for the KH universe, like/reblog/comment on this post so I can follow! (this is a side blog, so the follow will be from my main)

KHOC Week 2024 Day 7 - Future
We've reached the final day of @khoc-week and it's been such a wonderful whirlwind. Six years it's been going! I can hardly believe it. This prompt helps me look towards the future in my own life as well as Hinata's.
Speaking of Hinata, let's get it!

You may have noticed Hinata wearing a golden locket. It's more than just a simple necklace, it holds her future. Well, more technically it's a recording of a vision of her future.
During "Third Beginning", the Organization began hunting Hinata. Any time she left the mansion the Organization or a bounty hunter were there. It got to the point that her father confined her to the mansion in Twilight Town. The building had a barrier around it keeping outsiders from being able to break in uninvited.
This worked for a while. Until Hinata couldn't handle being locked away. She became restless and frustrated. And eventually she convinced Riku to head back to a world they'd been to in the past, a world that had a certain oracular pig that could show visions of the future.
If the vision showed her with a happy future, then surely things would be ok of she left the mansion.
So Riku and Sam went to Prydain, the origin of the Black Cauldron. After an arduous journey that involved the Horned King coming back as a Heartless, having to regain Taran's trust, and getting Hen Wen back from the Heartless King, they were rewarded with their visions.
Sam asked to see her father, who had disappeared over two years ago. While Riku asked to see Hinata.
B.E.N recorded the resulting visions and Sam created the lockets to house both of the visions.
Hinata wears her locket on a necklace and often holds it, tracing the indentations, when she's anxious. For her it's a reminder that everything will be ok. No matter how dark things become, there's a light waiting there at the end.
Below the cut is an except from Chapter 39 of "Third Beginning", describing the vision in its entirety.
_-----------_----------_-----------_
Riku wordlessly nodded and looked over at Hen Wen, catching her blue eyes gazing back at him. Something about her made him feel uneasy, as if she was looking right into his soul. He slowly knelt down beside her and took in a deep breath as he took off one of his gloves.
Barely touching the surface of the water, he gently moved his finger in a circular motion, repeating the words, "Hen Wen, from you I do beseech, knowledge that lies beyond my reach…"
Hen Wen followed his movements with her eyes, before lowering her snout into the water. The surface shimmered as Ben lit up his eyes, beginning his recording. A familiar sight appeared on the water's surface: a blue sparkling ocean that went out as far as they could see. Clouds speckled the sky as seagulls flew by, landing on the tall coconut trees that surrounded them. Hinata walked into view, her hands clasped behind her as she looked around. Her hair tapered past her shoulders, swaying softly with the breeze. A blue floral fabric was tied at her hips, billowing in the wind, and a black swimsuit top was fastened around her chest. She looked over her shoulder at Riku, her tattoo glowing brilliantly as she spoke, yet they couldn't hear her voice.
In the vision, Riku walked forward and pushed a few strands of Hinata's hair behind her ear, making her giggle before she looked back out at the ocean view. Behind them, Sora and Kairi came running up, both of them in their swimsuits, laughing as they approached. Kairi tackle hugged Hinata, almost making them topple over as Sora stopped beside Riku, grinning over at him. Suddenly, the vision swirled, making the image disappear before bringing up something new.
Riku stood in front of a group of familiar faces, Hinata being one of them. Star and crescent moon shaped windows were along the walls behind them, showing a deep space outdoors. In the center of the room was a long table, where a man with a long grayed beard sat, speaking to him. His eyes appeared stern and serious, but given the smiles on everyone else's face, Riku felt calm and welcomed. Beside the man stood Mickey with Donald and Goofy at his side. Behind them, Hinata had her hands clasped in front of her chest with a sweet expression on her face. She looked over to the right of Riku, making Riku look over to see Sora standing beside him with his hands linked behind his head as he spoke with a goofy grin molded onto his face. Sora noticed Riku's stare and looked over at him. The moment their eyes met, the vision once again swirled, about to change into a new image.
"I don't understand," the real Riku spoke up, shortly glancing up at Sam as she had walked over to see the vision. "These seem really far in the future."
Sam met his gaze, her eyes equally as confused as his. "Just keep watching, we'll figure it out."
Riku frowned, but looked back at the vision, showing him walking through a forest. Lush green trees surrounded him and soft grass speckled with flowers covered the ground. He noticed Hinata in the distance, sitting on top of a plush red—checkered quilt beside a woven picnic basket. In front of her was a little girl, no more than the age of six. Her hair was the same color as Riku's, reaching all the way to her waist. She sat patiently while Hinata braided her hair, weaving in some of the flowers from around the forest.
"Wait, is that…?" Sam softly began to speak, kneeling down to see the vision better.
Before she could finish her sentence, both the little girl and Hinata looked over. Their eyes didn't meet with Riku's but a little below to the right of him. Hinata's smile turned into a grin as she held out her arms. A little boy, barely over the age of two, with dark red hair, toddled into view from Riku's side. He stumbled a bit, but ran into Hinata's arms, receiving a warm hug. Hinata laughed, kissing the little boy on his forehead before looking up at Riku. A sweet glow was in her matured face and smile.
The real Riku gasped when their eyes met, his breath catching in his throat as his heart jumped. He knew exactly who those children were. A warm flush covered his face as tears threatened to fill his eyes. Swallowing hard, he looked away, unable to keep his gaze with Hinata's without being overwhelmed with emotion.
"T—that—" his voice came out hoarsely, making him clear his throat, "That's enough."
Taran reached forward and rippled the water, making the vision disappear. Riku leaned back, feeling the couch behind him to support his weight. He looked over at the crackling fire, wrapping his mind over everything he had just seen. His heart fluttered every time he replayed the events, a blush permanently on his cheeks. Ever so slowly, a smirk appeared on his face, eventually transforming into a full smile.
He tore his gaze from the flames to see Sam. She noticed him looking over and smiled at him, shaking her head and letting out a breathy laugh.
"Might not have been what we were looking for," she laughed, her voice still stained with tears. "But you have to admit, that was pretty amazing anyways."

KHOC Week Day 6 - Journal
This has been a prompt for @khoc-week that I've been so excited about. Hinata keeps journals of her adventures as a way to keep track of her memories. She's forgotten large chunks of her past before and wants to make sure that can never happen again.
Her journals, however, are a bit different from a normal diary. She writes them like a story and also draws pictures in them to show where she is. She's not an incredibly gifted artist, but learned a few things from her time with Namine.
This is an excerpt of her journal entry during a short stay on Montressor. In Chapter 41 of "The Forgotten Traveler", Hinata and her team find themselves back on Montressor in search of information on Sam's dad. It leads them back to the Benbow, where Sam's mom holds the missing piece.
The actual chapter was written from Sam's point of view, but this journal entry is Hinata's take on it all. I'll post the entire entry below:
----------------------------------
The Benbo Inn was filled with warmth and life. Sarah Hawkins always did have a way of making people feel welcome. She kept our booth open. I remember sitting there after my shift, or whenever Sam and James would come during my work day and convince me to take a break. Tonight though, it lacked the usual excitement it used to.
While the rest of the inn bustled and chatted, we were there for something different. Sam needed to talk with her mom. It wasn't going to be easy and it made me queasy to think about. Jenna was someone I couldn't figure out. Her eyes showed a vast emptiness, yet I could sense something deeper. It made me sad for her. Though I could understand the anger Sam held towards her. Two years of isolation… What could that do to someone? I went crazy during my month alone on Treasure Planet. Well, mostly alone.
As Ben and I took our seats, Sam went to her mom. Her words were short and terse, telling her they needed to talk after closing time, then she came back to the booth with us. I wish I could have said something to help. Part of me wished I could have taken care of the entire thing for her. But that wouldn't help anything. It was something she needed to face on her own.
Knowing that, I asked if she wanted us there during the discussion, which she said yes to. All that remained was for us to eat dinner and wait. But even with the great food from Sarah, I didn't have much of an appetite. Sam didn't seem to either. While Ben kept the conversation going, mostly with himself. I'm glad he was there.
It was agonizing to wait. I kept drumming my fingers against the table and I'm pretty sure my leg wouldn't stop shaking. Then closing time finally came. I helped Jenna and Sarah clean up. It was just like I was working there again. But then it was time to talk.
Jenna brought over a chair and carefully folded her apron over the back of it before she sat down. She sat on the edge, her back straight. It was like she was trying to seem stronger than she felt. Sam brought out a locket. It looked similar to mine but was made from a bluish metal. I didn't recognize the engraving on top, not that it entirely matters. Jenna seemed to though. I noticed her shifting in her seat at the sight of it. Did she know what was inside it?
Sam asked if she'd seen the vision and Jenna just nodded. Not a word came out of her. Sam continued to pry and Jenna's entire demeanor shifted. Her posture slumped and that distant glaze came back over her eyes. There was more to this. Even with the possibility of getting Jarith back, she didn't react. It only made her retreat further back into herself. What was really going on?
There was something deeper. Something even Sam didn't seem to understand and realize. The raw pain between them was palpable. It didn't take long for Sam to lose her temper. She slammed her hands against the table, demanding answers. Jenna begged her not to look into this and got up from her seat to leave.
I couldn't sit by anymore and got out of my seat, while Lupe took care of calming Sam down. Jenna could hardly stand. She leaned against the tables for support as she walked away. I moved to stand in front of her and all I saw was a broken woman. Everything she did… she abandoned her children when they needed her most, ignored them when they pleaded for help and even for something as simple as love, and locked herself away for nearly two years. Why didn't I share Sam's resentment towards her? There had to be more to it. More that we didn't understand about Jenna.
All I had to say to Jenna was acknowledge she was trying to protect Sam. She broke down. Sam was all she had left.
Sam cried that if that was the case, why did she never care?
It was a valid question. One Jenna didn't have an answer to. Whatever is going on with her, maybe Jarith will have the answer. We have to find him.
Lupe and I calmed Jenna down enough to let Sam back in for another chance to talk. We promised her that we'd get him back… Maybe that was a foolish thing to promise, but it seemed like the only choice at the time. I know I'll do everything in my power to do it. We all will.
Sam tried again. She knelt in front of Jenna and offered the locket once more. She pleaded softly, begging for any information about her dad. And Jenna did… she told us the name Glee Anselm. That's where we'll find Sam's dad.
We have quite the journey ahead of us.

KHOC Week 2024 - Day 5 - Unique
We're over half way through @khoc-week ! Today's prompt is what makes our oc(s) unique.
Hinata possesses the ability to manipulate and create water. She's eventually able to harness other types of magic, but she has an affinity with water. There's also a tattoo beneath her eye that glows when she is utilizing her magic or feeling intense emotions. The tattoo strengthens and focuses her magic.
But how did she get the tattoo? Weeeeelll....
Sometime in Third Beginning, Hinata is sent on a mission to the Lost City of Atlantis. There she meets Queen Kida and a royal guard named Kamash. She helps them with their recent Nobody infestation and in return, Queen Kida shows her the city's most sacred place.
Here's the part of the chapter (written years ago so forgive the quality) of Hinata getting her magic.
Afterwards, Kida gives Hinata the tattoo as a way to channel her magic.
------------------------------
From Third Beginning, Chapter 18
------------------------------
"This is the most sacred room in all of Atlantis." Kida explained. "It was once where the Kings of our past resided, protecting the Heart of Atlantis."
"Where are they now?" Hinata quietly asked.
"Above the city, serving as a symbol of hope and change." She replied. "Even though they are no longer here, I still feel their presence when I come here to pray."
With a rumble the platform melded into the ground of the cave that edged the body of water. Kida stepped forward, the crystal around her neck lighting up and floating higher in the air with every step she took. As she reached the edge of the water, she went to her knees and began to whisper in Atlantean. Hinata walked up beside her, silently listening to her prayers and examining the area. She didn't know anything about the Kings of their past, but she couldn't deny the power within the room. Just breathing she could feel an abnormal mixture of peace and adrenaline rushing through her. Hinata knelt down next to Kida and closed her eyes, focusing on the power around them.
After several minutes, Kida ceased her prayer and asked, "Can you feel it?"
Hinata slowly nodded and whispered, "Yes, it's… strange."
"The magic you asked of before, I believe it is my connection to this place." She explained, "Several months ago my soul was connected to the Heart of Atlantis, it called me to it to protect this city." She looked at her necklace that was still glowing. "Just as it called my mother when I was a child."
"What happened?" Hinata asked, looking over at her.
"I do not know exactly." She admitted, "I confess that I do not remember the specifics. Just that I came here and the light of Atlantis reached out to me… consumed me. Our city was in grave danger and my father near death; but when I awoke from my trance the city was safe. Perhaps that is the magic those orbs are attracted to."
"Maybe," Hinata agreed, "Do you think we could use that power against the Organization?"
"I would be able to place a wall around the city as protection, but if they appear within our walls as you have predicted, there is not much I can do."
"Well if I'm able to get them out of the city, that wall would be helpful." Hinata stood from her spot and wiped off the dirt from her pants.
Kida looked up at her, "That was not the only reason I brought you here."
"It wasn't?" She asked. "What else is there?"
"This place unlocked the power inside of me; perhaps it can do the same for you."
"I-I don't know." She stammered. "I'm not even sure I have any sort of magic inside me. I mean, Ben's magic theory is just a theory."
"But there is no harm in trying." Kida smirked, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
Hinata frowned and took a deep breath, "Alright… how do you propose we unlock this power?"
"Take off your shoes." Kida told her standing up.
"O-kay," Hinata replied, unlacing her boots and taking them off completely. Placing her shoes beside her, she stood up and felt the cool mud against her bare feet. She looked over at Kida and awaited the next step.
"Follow me," Kida softly told her, stepping onto the water.
Hinata watched in awe as Kida's bare foot touched the surface of the water but did not sink into it. With every step the liquid rippled around her, but she remained on the top of the deep trench of blackened water. Reluctantly, Hinata stepped forward, barely touching her foot on the lake. The moment her skin touched the liquid, the blue light in the cave suddenly transformed into a deep red. Hinata gasped and quickly retracted her foot, watching at the red light turned back to blue. She looked around; trying to find the source of the light but was unable to find anything.
Kida stopped in her tracks and turned towards Hinata, "Do not be afraid."
Gulping, Hinata nodded and tried again. She placed her foot on top of the water, trying to ignore as the light in the cave transformed to a deep red. Following Kida's steps, she walked along the surface of the water. She stared down at her feet, seeing the dark depths just beneath her, going down for what seemed like eternity; but she somehow stood on the exterior the water rippling around her shaking feet. Glancing up, she saw Kida waiting for her on the round platform in the center of the lake. Taking a deep breath, she quickened her pace and stepped onto the rock beside Kida; the moment she left the water the red light changed back into the calm blue.
"Well that was unsettling." Hinata whispered under her breath, her heart racing as she looked back at the water she had just treaded.
Getting straight to the point, Kida explained, "On one of our city's many murals, Milo found an entry about elements."
Hinata turned around to see Kida walking around the platform. There were three pedestals, one at each corner of the carved triangle. Kida approached a pedestal and tapped her crystal on the top. It shined a blue light and was replaced with a small floating flame. She did the same to the next pedestal and a floating orb of water appeared over the top of it. Nearing the last one, Kida pressed her crystal against it and a green plant with stringy roots appeared, also floating like the other elements.
"After my father's passing I came down here often," Kida enlightened her, "I felt that there was something special about this place and once Milo decrypted enough of our lost language, he discovered that these elemental pedestals could be created."
"What do they do?" Hinata finally found her voice again.
"They allow us to unlock the power of our people." She answered. "Our ancestors once had grand powers beyond our imagination, but such knowledge was lost to us since the time of Mehbelmok." Turning towards Hinata, she continued. "The offspring of those ancestors have the remains of the power, passed down to them over generations; but we had no way to unlock them."
"But with this you can?" Hinata asked, looking at the floating elements. When Kida nodded, she asked. "What exactly do you want me to do?"
"Stand in the center." Kida ordered.
Taking a deep breath, she nodded and stepped forward. As she entered the carved triangle, the carving began to glow, already activating. Once she reached the center, Kida began chanting quietly in Atlantean and held up her crystal. She tapped the tip of it onto Hinata's forehead, causing a sudden rush to enter her.
Removing the crystal, Kida stepped back until she was out of the triangle. "Can you still feel the energy around you?"
Hinata nodded, "Yes."
"Close your eyes and focus on it." She ordered her. "If there is indeed magic inside of you this will aid you in unlocking it."
Taking a shaking breath, Hinata forced down the nervous lump in her throat and did as she was told. Closing her eyes, she cleared her mind and focused on the overwhelming energy around her. With the boost given to her from Kida's crystal it was difficult for Hinata to contain the feelings around her. She could feel the heat of the fire as if it was right in front of her face despite it being a small flame several feet away. The freshness of the plant filled her senses with the feelings of spring and life. Without realizing it, she clenched her fists and tightened her muscles. In a faint voice she could hear Kida telling her to relax.
"What are you feeling?" Kida asked.
"Um…" Hinata spoke in a hushed raspy voice as beads of sweat began appearing on her skin. "It's hard to tell…"
"Single out the elements." Kida told her. "Feel them with their own individual power."
Giving a quick nod, Hinata focused on the heat of the flame; but the more she spent her energy on it the fainter it became. Shaking her head, she moved away and engrossed herself in the fresh sensation of the plant, imagining herself back home in the gardens; yet little by little everything withered and the entire perception of the plant disappeared. The once overwhelming elements suddenly went silent and Hinata was about to inform Kida about it before a cooling rush overtook her. The currents in the water surrounding them were all she could focus on. She could feel the movement of the liquid as if it were a part of her. Her very being felt like it was being overtaken by waves and she felt like she was losing control. Stumbling a couple steps back she clenched her hands and took a deep breath. As her new breath filled her lungs she also felt energy from the room around her swell into her. Lifting her hand out in front of her she imagined the orb of water in her mind and tried to lift it.
Kida watched from the edge of the platform, her eyes widened when Hinata outstretched her hand towards the pedestal of water. The orb lifted into the air and floated to be in front of Hinata. A smirk appeared on Kida's face and she called out, "Hinata, open your eyes!"
Hinata immediately opened her eyes and grinned when she saw the water floating in front of her. "Am I the one doing this?" She asked her.
"Yes!" Kida called back, "Focus on the power, control the water!"
Taking a deep breath, Hinata focused her eyes on the floating orb of water in front of her. Lifting her hand the orb followed suit, rising above her head and dancing whichever direction Hinata wanted it to go. The coolness of the surrounding water itched at Hinata's senses. Closing her eyes, she broadened her horizons.
The black water around the platform began to wade in in small waves, splashing against their feet. Kida stepped back, standing at the edge of the carved triangle and gasped when a spiral of water shot up from the lake around them. The water went straight up before curving and merging with the orb of liquid Hinata was already controlling. As the waters merged the blue light of the cave instantly changed to the deep red.
"Hinata!" Kida yelled, trying to get her attention, but Hinata was inside of a trance.
Another spiral of water shot up also adding to the growing orb of water and another and another. Soon Hinata lifted the large mass of water high above them in the cave, reaching up to the ceiling as its size soon grew greater than the platform they stood on.
"Hinata!" Kida yelled again, "Hinata, open your eyes!"
"W-what?" Hinata rapidly blinked her eyes open. Looking up she saw the mass of water above their heads and immediately retracted her hands with a gasp.
Releasing her power, the gigantic orb of water rippled around the edges suddenly losing its form and falling in a massive downpour. Kida closed her eyes and braced herself to be soaked but was surprised that even though she could hear the drops falling around them, she wasn't getting the slightest bit wet. She opened her eyes to see Hinata holding her hands above her head, stopping the rain drops from falling against them.
As the water absorbed back into the lake, the red light transformed back into the welcoming blue and Kida laughed, "Well my friend, I believe I can say without a doubt that you do indeed have magic. In all my years I have never seen someone with such control over an element!"
Hinata looked down at her hands in front of her and exclaimed, "That was amazing! I've never felt anything like that before!"
"Come, let us return to the city." Kida outstretched her hand towards the lake.

KHOC Week 2024 - Day 4 - Dream
Or Nightmare, in Hinata's case.
In The Forgotten Traveler, Hinata, Axel, and Riku all go to Halloween Town in search of Hinata's Replica, Keres. (Aka Thaanix: name given by the Organization)
Hinata's Replica was overtaken by an artificial darkness and is wrecking havoc to every world she goes to. She was holed up in Oogie Boogie's abandoned fortress, her excess darkness creating unstable creatures.
As a Replica, Keres possessed the ability to absorb others'power. Inside Oogie's fortress, she gained the magic to manipulate dreams. That power formed into a creature causing hallucinations and nightmares.
Axel, Riku, and Hinata battled the creature, ultimately defeating it. However, as it disintegrated, a darkness burst out of it and rendered each of them unconscious and trapped in nightmares. The creature they believed to be defeated was actually split between their minds, absorbing their power and strength. Each of them had to traverse their personal nightmare, facing hidden memories and past mistakes, all the while becoming weaker.
Hinata's nightmare found her back on Kamino, the cloning facility and hidden Organization lab that experimented on her and created Keres. Here is an excerpt from Chapter 21 of Forgotten Traveler of Hinata's nightmare:
----------------------------------
The first thing Hinata heard was the rain.
Heavy drops pelted against metal and glass. Thunder rumbled in the distance. The floor beneath her was cold and smooth, somehow familiar. Hinata's fingers curled against the ground, her eyes opening to a blurred sight. A cell, pristine and untouched, the door wide open. She blinked rapidly, taking in her surroundings. In the corner jutted out a metal slabbed bed. Over it, a thick window where captors could gaze in at test subjects..
Hinata pushed herself to sit up. "Kamino…?" she asked, her voice echoing in the empty cell.
No one gave her an answer. The sound of her voice filled the room, then there was nothing. Just the rain. She swallowed thickly, her heart pounding in her ears. Her legs faltered as she moved to stand and she stumbled into the doorway. The hall outside her cell was just as she remembered. A door to the left blocked her way, leaving only the right path open, where she could follow it and go around the corner.
She staggered forward, her steps heavy and her body leaning side to side as if she were inebriated. Her head was swimming, her sight blurring in and out. She braced herself against the wall and ran her hands over her face, trying to break through the haze.
"This feels real," she muttered, looking down at her hands as she opened and closed them. Her nails slightly dug into her palms and she could feel the sensation, as well as the humidity from the storm and the chill in the stagnant air. "Is this really a dream?" she asked.
Keeping a hand on the wall, she went further down the corridor, her footsteps reverberating around her. Turning the corner, she saw long rectangular windows lining the walls. One window curved with the hall, showing a glimpse of the raging storm outside. The rest were, as Hinata remembered, windows that looked into separate labs. Some classrooms, others experimental rooms for test subjects. However, each one was blackened and dark, with no door to go inside. Hinata's only option was to continue going forward.
She passed four sets of windows before a door hissed shut behind her. With a start, she spun around, seeing the hall disappear behind metal. "Alright, no backtracking," she noted, turning back. "Wait… What?"
She could have sworn the hall continued forward with endless windows on either side. Instead, she stood beside an open cell. A curved window overlooked the storm outside, leading around the corner to the left. It looked exactly the same as before.
"It's a dream." She shook her head and continued walking, accepting the change despite the way her heart rate accelerated. "Has to be."
Her balance came easier, her steps more pronounced. She turned the corner, sure enough seeing the same hall she had before. Nothing had changed. Past four sets of windows, the door hissed shut behind her and Hinata found herself right back at her cell.
"Just keep moving forward, I guess."
Her fingers wrapped around her locket, tracing the indentations. Turning the corner, the first darkened window to her left lit up, immediately catching her attention. Rather than a lab, a dusty old room appeared on the other side. Cobwebs hung from the corners and old furniture was piled on the floor, pushed back against the wall to make space in the center.
Hinata's hand pressed against the glass. "The old sparring hall," she murmured. "Just before we started lessons there… But why?"
Light poured into the room as a door out of sight swung open. A young Hinata came into view, spinning around excitedly as Lea and Isa followed her in. Their lips moved, but Hinata couldn't hear their words. She remembered the day though.
Neither Lea or Isa had been impressed with the old shack, even though Hinata insisted her dad was going to have it renovated so they could start sparring lessons like they always talked about. The three of them laughed together and Hinata smiled. A bittersweet warmth filled her chest. Then a silhouette appeared in the doorway, its shadow casting over the three of them, and the window darkened as if it were a snuffed flame over a candle.
Hinata's grip tightened over her locket.

KHOC WEEK 2024 Day 3 - Connection
Third day of @khoc-week <3 and I absolutely loving it. Today dives into Hinata's connections. What better way to showcase it than with @amyhayanora 's incredible artwork???
This piece captures everyone on Hinata's team! From top right we have Jack the ghost dog, B.E.N, Ansem the Wise (aka DiZ), Riku, Hinata, Velcia (@alchemist-of-thebes 's amazing character), Lupe (Amy's incredible character), Avan the gwythaint, Sam, and Chirithy!
They all make up the Highwind Crew <3
When they aren't on a mission, the crew enjoys their time winding down together. Lupe owns an apartment in the synthetic Twilight Town and has them over for awful B movies.
But they also have each other's backs. After a recent mission, Velcia is left in dire condition and is placed in a pod back in Twilight Town to recover. Hinata blames herself for the mishap and is worried about her. She struggles leaving Velcia's side. The rest of the crew catches on to that pretty quick and gather supplies and food for a picnic.
It's a bit of an odd setting for a picnic, but none of them seem to mind.

And Hinata does eventually catch up with Axel. She struggles calling him by his new name and they have many rough patches, but they are also able to be on the same team for missions occasionally.
I'm sure you can guess where they are for this mission.
Each of these connections keep Hinata going. Their gestures, their hearts, Hinata cherishes them deeply and will do anything to make sure nothing ever happens to them.

KHOC WEEK 2024 Day 2 - Past
Second day of @khoc-week already! The prompt is diving into Hinata's past and hoo boy do I have a lot to talk about!
--Spoilers Spoilers!--
Hinata is the daughter of Ansem the Wise and grew up on Radiant Garden. Her mother and grandmother always had ideas of grandeur for her. She was, after all, technically a princess and the first born.
But that lifestyle and pressure never suited Hinata well. She often shirked her responsibilities of being the 'perfect princess' and instead snuck out to be with her best friends, Lea and Isa. The three of them went everywhere together and explored every inch of Radiant Garden. Hinata would get them into the castle occasionally, but after a few mishaps inside, they were banned. Well, Lea and Isa were banned. Hinata was allowed under her father's supervision, which unfortunately wasn't very often.
As the three friends got older, they began getting more and more interested in the apprentices at the castle. Hinata was familiar with most of them, even friends with a few. She spent more time in the castle library, proving she wouldn't cause a ruckus. There, she discovered books filled with old war stories and detailed diagrams of various weapons. They absolutely enthralled her, and for the first time in her life, she became passionate about something.
It didn't take long for her to rope Lea and Isa into her obsession and they attempted making their own versions of the weapons from the books. They each were drawn to different, unique weapons and sparred often, pretending they were characters from the old war stories. Hinata's father eventually took notice and wished for Hinata to be trained properly.
Fortunately, a new apprentice had recently appeared. A young man named Xehanort. He seemed to have his own abilities with fighting and Ansem appointed him as Hinata's, Lea's, and Isa's teacher.
The three of them trained under Xehanort's tutelage, learning and improving at an impressive speed. He pushed them to their limits, becoming harder the longer he taught them. Hinata noticed the change in him, but loved the way it drove her to learn more. Before long, the three of them were accomplished fighters, despite their age.
At that time, Xehanort began distancing himself from them, claiming he had important work at the castle that required his attention. Hinata attempted to learn more from the other apprentices, but each of them kept quiet and dismissive, something Hinata wasn't used to from them.
Lea and Isa also became interested in the secrets and the three of them conspired to sneak inside and get down to the lower levels where the labs were. Hinata knew how to get there and offered to lead the way.
They weren't prepared for what they were about to discover.
Getting in went off without a hitch, but as they went to the lower levels an unnerving chill filled the air. It wasn't natural and what once seemed like normal science experiments melded into inhumane practices. Hinata wondered if her father had anything to do with it and Lea and Isa didn't have an answer for her. Then Lea found what appeared to be a hidden corridor.
Going through the narrow hall and spiral staircase, they began hearing screams echoing off the walls. Large glass tubes stood from floor to ceiling, each one encasing a person in the process of melding into a Heartless.
They were experimenting on humans.
Braig, one of the apprentices, discovered them and Xehanort shortly followed. Their own Sparring Master was part of the madness. Upon seeing them, he said something about hoping he'd been able to show them when they were ready. Hinata didn't know what that meant. He summoned a strange, unearthly weapon to his hand. Lea and Isa stood frozen, but Hinata turned and ran, leaving them behind.
Everything after that spiraled into a destructive blur. Xehanort plotted something. From his actions, the world itself dissolved into darkness. Hinata ran for her father, but found him missing. So she went back home in the midst of the storm tearing apart the world. The only person she found there was her sister, Kairi. Hinata grabbed her and promised she'd protect her no matter what happened.
As if in response, Kairi's necklace illuminated with magic and everything around them went white.
Hinata didn't remember what happened after that. When she woke up, she was falling into an ocean and blacked out upon impact. Later, she awoke again in a hospital bed, her mind fogged and heavy, as if something was warping her memories.
Somehow, she appeared on an island, rescued by a boy named Riku. His two friends Sora and Kairi came to visit her in the hospital. She felt a bond with them, even upon meeting. Kairi especially seemed familiar, but her own sister had been merely six when she saw her last.
As she recovered and settling into her new life on the island, Hinata attached to a personal mission to find a way off world and find her sister. Thankfully, Riku already had an idea in mind.
