Nicolas didn't think he'd ever seen Armand look like this. Maybe glimpses of it at thoughts of Lestat, but never towards him. Armand was the one who hurt him; not the other way around. Armand didn't care about him. Armand didn't love him. He was an inconvenience that Armand was stuck with; the result of a promise that never should have been kept.
Yet, Armand's face said otherwise. His words said otherwise. Nicolas didn't take the hand that was offered, but he didn't back away from it either. Still, he couldn't accept what was in front of him. Every fiber of his being denied it, told him that it couldn't be true.
"Why? You don't want me. You want Lestat. That's why you keep me around. Not for me, for him." This had to be because of Lestat, Nicolas decided. Armand couldn't have Lestat, and he was the closest thing available. That was it.
"I won’t fall for this."
@cursedviolinist
It was understandable that Nicolas would express such a sentiment. For a relationship, their start had been far from auspicious. Armand had not seen this developing and it was clear that, even now, Nicolas didn't quite believe it either. Armand, who usually tried to keep his expression clear from sensitive, personal emotions, refused to hold back as an act of faith and trust in his desire for Nicolas' companionship. His gaze was wounded at Nicolas' words and his bottom lip trembled for a moment.
"I do not blame you for believing my purposes are nefarious but Nicolas," He held out his hand, offering, reaching, but giving Nicolas the space and the right to refuse him. "You and I both know if I wanted only your pain and suffering, I wouldn't be doing this. I wouldn't have made this confession." His words were spoken with the rare tenderness that some had never even heard. His voice was that of the lost young man appealing for the love he desperately desired.

One man's opinion. Was it an opinion, or was it truth? Nicolas didn't know where the line was. Nicolas couldn't say he was the expert on talent, but he did know what he saw as the pinnacle of stage talent. Unfortunately for him, it was Lestat. He longed to get these miserable vampires to have half as much stage presence as Lestat did, but it could never happen. Santiago clearly thought he was that good, but he'd never seen the wonder that was Lestat the second a stage light hit his face.
His eyes narrowed momentarily, wondering what other opinions Santiago ignored. Had anyone ever told him his hair was tacky? He should've listened if they had. Too late for that now. Tacky hair for eternity- or however long he lasted. "What can I tell you? Listening to others has never been a strong suit of mine."
Sometimes, Nicolas wanted to rip Santiago's head off. He figured he could do it. The other was still barely a fledgling, after all. But now Armand made a big show of not breaking the laws for the coven, and he didn't want to be made into an example. What would Armand do to a man he had sworn not to kill? Unfortunately, Nicolas knew from experience.
"By all means, continue. You're talented, as much as I loathe to admit, but not talented enough to act as arrogant as you do. I'll enjoy watching you get thrown into the flames." As much enjoyment as he could, at least. Every time a vampire burned, Nicolas remembered his experience under Les Innocents- that he was supposed to burn.

I know I talk a lot about the violent side of Armand and Nicki's relationship, but there was caring too. Armand was the one who made sure Nicolas fed, that he isn't going put into the street and getting himself killed, that he's in his coffin before the sun comes up. Armand can be gentle with him at times (notably after Nicolas has been through some sort of punishment and is too exhausted to fight) dressing him, brushing his hair, helping him clean blood off himself when he's gotten too carried away with feeding. This is why Nicolas has complicated feelings towards Armand. It isn't all hatred; he knows that without Armand, he wouldn't have survived those first years as a vampire.

The last year or so had been turbulent to say the least, but Santiago felt as if he was coming into his own at the theatre. Keeping his thoughts arranged to not jeopardize his future was difficult. His debut as the lead filled him with some validation, a certain satisfaction. He knew it would take time, as Maitre said to him on multiple occasions, in different environments.
"Sometimes I like to play with fire," he adds, shrugging lightly. It kept things interesting, that was for sure - or worse. He had yet to decide which. His arms fell from their crossed state to rest on his hips as he looked at the playwright. "Oh really? It sounded like a little concern. And that was them. I'm me."

If he was bothered by the destruction of his maker, Santiago was doing a good job of hiding it. Good. Better not to let it show. But arrogance was dangerous too, and he seemed too cocky than what was safe. Nicolas would normally just let it ride, see what happened, but Santiago was starting to get on his own nerves.
"Don't mistake my warning for concern. I've seen plenty like you. They all end up burning once Armand grows tired of them." Or Maitre, to Santiago. Nicolas refused to call him that, regardless of how much trouble it brought him.
"You’re playing with fire." ((Santiago from cursedviolinist))
Santiago stared directly at him for a moment before reacting, his arms crossing. His eyes then narrowed slightly, a playful edge emerging in his voice. "Oh, am I? Hmmn. Interesting of you to say," he said, a laugh accompanying his words. His head tilting with a light smirk on his features. "I think I know what I am doing, thank you, but your concern is duly noted. I can assure you."

face, sender turns receiver's face towards them. (From Lestat at beautifulsavagegarden?)
@beautilfulsavagegarden
Nicolas couldn't bring himself to speak to Lestat, could not even bring himself to look at his former lover. Former? They certainly weren't lovers anymore. Not since Lestat had disappeared. What love was still there? Nicolas wasn't sure. Could he still love the man who had rescued him from darkness, only to deliver him to a new, eternal form?
These were the thoughts swirling around in his head, almost on repeat since he had woken up in this new eternal life. Gabrielle had caught glimpses of it, Nicolas was sure. But Lestat was closed off. Lestat could not access his mind. It was better that way. He wouldn't speak to Lestat out loud, either, no matter how much the other begged him to speak. It was as though his mouth wouldn't work.
He stared into the fire in the hearth of Lestat's new castle. That should have been his death. Just like the witches. They'd ended up at the witches place after all, hadn't they? Nicolas was drawn out of his thoughts momentarily by a cold hand on his face, turning him away from the fire. Momentarily he met Lestat's worried gaze before he pulled away, turning back to the fire once more.

Though he was well aware that his struggles were pathetic, Nicolas couldn't stop himself from fighting. He was like an animal in a trap, willing to chew his own foot off if it meant escape. He released a low growl as the grip on his throat tightened; all he could really manage as his airway constricted further. Shame he didn't need air. If he were human, he'd be dead and this would all be over.
What was the desired effect of his attack? Any sort of reaction, really. All Nicolas wanted was to get under Armand's skin, to see anything other than the calm fury he was used to. What else could he do? He knew his disobedience was exactly what Armand wanted, but what other options did he have? Obedience was something foreign to him- had been for his whole life, both living and dead. Catatonia was an option, but not one he could control. Nicolas didn't get a say in when that emptiness took over.
Back to disobedience. The illusion of choice, with only one true answer. The more he fought, the worse it would be. But if he didn't fight, neither one of them would be satisfied. Fangs bared, Nicolas struck Armand again. He'd keep it up until Armand stopped him or exhaustion took over. Whichever came first.
❛ i will haunt you for the rest of your days. ❜ @cursedviolinist
Armand laughed softly, shaking his head and smiling a small but self satisfied smile at Nicolas. It only enhanced his beauty despite the viciousness that lurked beneath. It was almost endearing in a way, that Nicolas thought he had such power, that he believed himself strong enough and influential enough to have such an effect. It was like watching a child.
"You can try dear Nicolas but like many of the endeavours of your life, it will be a failure." Armand was well aware of how successful Nicolas' plays were but he wasn't going to acknowledge that. When it came down to it, Nicolas had failed at key points and that was what mattered.

I really like Niki. He's one of my favorite sufferers. 🥺🔥🎻
I also rarely paint musical instruments, the last time was a two of years ago, and then it was a pipa, not a violin.
