Chapter 39
Samuel walked away from the battle as another trainer caught up to him. “That was a good battle there.” said the trainer. “Thanks. Sorry I lost my temper. They were just getting extremely annoying.” Samuel replied, ashamed for losing his temper like that. “No it’s alright. You were right, they were getting annoying, I just didn’t want to say anything because of their father. I’m glad somebody finally did though.” Samuel looked over in annoyance. “Let me guess, their father is rich and bought them their gym position. Nobody wanted to get in the way because he was very powerful.” “You got it. The only reason it went through is because Clay, another gym leader in the region, spent a lot out of pocket for gym restructure in Unova. I think he just wanted to get rid of those guys too, but who knows.” Samuel checked the time and saw that his match was soon. He thanked his new friend and left for his match. “I got an appointment at the same time too.” Samuel looked at his friend and started to connect the dots. “Are you the gym leader here by any chance?” asked Samuel. “So you figured it out. I’m Don. I’m the gym leader here.” After that they chatted for a bit more. Don let Samuel run and switch his party around, as seeing part of his team may have given Don the advantage.
The battlefield for the match was an ice field, something which Samuel had little experience with. The floor was like tundra in some parts, and smooth ice in others. There were big boulders of ice around the field, much like how other fields had rock. Samuel and Don took their positions and the referee announced the rules and the match begun. “I choose you Furfrou!” Don sent out his first pokemon. It was a Furfrou with yellow stylized fur. Samuel knew these had good defenses, so he had to use special attacks. “Go Drazlopter!” Samuel called out his dragonfly pokemon, hoping he trained him enough. “Furfrou use bite.” “Drazlopter use bug buzz!” Furfrou charged at Drazlopter, but the bug was faster. He sent out a loud buzz which was able to send Furfrou back. Furfrou hit the ground but got back up. “Quick Attack!” “Dragon bomb!” Furfrou ran around the field dodging dragon bombs left and right. It was able to get close enough and strike Drazlopter, but he was able to send off a dragon bomb just as it attacked. The bomb sent the pair flying, Furfrou towards the ground and Drazlopter into the air. Drazlopter caught himself and started to dive tawards Furfrou. “Use locust bite!” Drazlopter bit down on the dog, and he regained some of his energy thanks to the attack. ‘Use bite!” Furfrou took advantage of the close proximity to the bug and attacked as well. Furfrou bit down hard and Drazlopter was in pain. Drazlopter use bug buzz and fly high up.” Drazlopter slowly ascended up, emitting the loud sound as before. Furfrou was not letting go and was getting hit by the attack dead on. Drazlopter slowly went higher, and the attack got louder. Drazlopter finally stopped going and just stayed high up in the air. Samuel hoped his plan would work.
Drazlopter stayed in the air with Furfrou hanging off of his leg. Drazlopter kept buzzing, hoping to eventually tire out the dog. Finally, Furfrou had no more strength and it finally let go, flling to the ground. Furfrou landed on the ice and sent a shower of snow up into the air. After the arena cleared, Furfrou laid in an ice crater, knocked out. The referee announced it and Furfrou was called back. “Okay, For my next pokemon I pick Quotame.” Don sent out hi next pokemon, the final evolution of this region’s normal type. The Raticate of this region, Samuel thought to himself. “Dragon bomb Draz!” Drazlopter sent out a flurry of attacks, and clouding the arena with the bombs. Quotame managed to dodge most of the attacks, but was hit with a few. After The attacked stopped, Don noticed the arena had changed. Instead of Quotame standing on a field of ice, it was turning into a pond filled with water and ice chunks. “I was hoping that would work.” Said Samuel “The dragon bombs warmed up the field, melting the ice and making it harder for Quotame to move.” “Good move,” replied Don “But I wouldnt celebrate yet. Quotame use rock climb!” “Draz use bug buzz!” Quotame slowly charged at Drazlopter, but Drazlopter’s attack was too strong. The attack resonated around the field and was aimed at Quotame. He managed to move slowly, then halted, then was blown back by the attack. Quotame fell onto a small chunk of ice, and was knocked out. Samuel cheered for the victory, btu Drazlopter started to glow white. Drazlopted changed shape and evolved into a Braztrix. “I knew that was only an awkward middle stage” Samuel stated, checking his pokedex. Don called back his pokemon and shouted out to Samuel. “Now you may regret what you did to the field. I choose you Biberal!” Don sent out the normal and water type pokemon, and Samuel knew that he just gave Don and Biberal the advantage for the rest of the match.

Chapter 38
“This is the third and final match between the former Striaton city gym leaders and the challenger Samuel from Slateport City.” shouted the referee. “May the match begin!” “It’s battling time! For the final course, I choose Pansage.” Cilan called out his little grass monkey, completing the set. Pansage looked strong, just standing there in the middle of the battlefield. But Samuel knew his pokemon were stronger. ‘Go Tazgrove!” Show these guys that a strong pokemon is better than food references!” Samuel called out his pokemon, hoping that another grass type would throw of Cilan. “Pansage use bullet seed.” Tazgrove boo!” Tazgrove ran fast and jumped Pansage from behind. Pansage flinched from the attack and was unable to send out a bullet seed. “What a delicious appetizer. This looks like a recipe for a good battle.”  “Please, stop with the references. Nobody actually likes them.” Samuel pleaded, hoping it would end. “Sorry if the way I talk has gone cold on you, but-” “Tazgrove use weedwhacker as hard as you can on the little $&@#!” Cilan’s jaw dropped at Samuel’s cursing, as well as his brothers. Pansage looked like it didn’t know what to do, But Tazgrove did not share this look. Tazgrove knew that whenever Samuel swore loudly he meant business. Tazgroves front paws started to glow bright green in preparation for the attack. Tazgrove swung at the little monkey and hit it hard. Pansage was sent flying back, with barely enough energy to stand up. Samuel looked at the trainer and referee to see if anyone was going to call the battle over, but he was okay to continue attacking. “What a flavorful attack.” Cilan said. “This is the spice that-” “Enough with the freaking food and cooking references!” Samuel shouted. he was finally fed up with the referenes that the boys were constantly making. “These references are extremely annoying! Nobody cares. We get it, you guys are waiters. Not actual cooks. Not the people actually dealing with food, but the servers. So you guys don’t actually have to do these constant references. Please for the love of Arceus, SHUT UP!!!” There was a silence all around the field. Nobody was moving, except for the battlers in adjacent fields. Finally, Chili spoke up first. “Looks like you don’t have a taste for-” he didnt get a chance to finish the sentence before Samuel started again shouting. “No wonder you guys lost your gym. You don’t listen to people. Nobody likes you, your’e likely the most annoying characters created by the franchise to be main characters! For once just shut up!” The boys let out a loud gasp and stood at Samuel in shock. Samuel wasn’t sure about the actual reason why they lost their gym, but he didn’t have a good impression so far from these boys, and they reminded him of the Custella region gym leader, rather former gym leader, Craig. he did his own thing and didn’t listen to others, so he lost his job too. Samuel broke the silence with one more command. “Tazgrove use one more weed whacker!” Tazgrove attacked with full force. Pansage was knocked out. The referee declared Samuel the winner of the match, but his yelling left the audience speechless, so there was little applause. Samuel looked over and saw that the audience was not angry, but amused.

Chapter 37
Samuel received his rewards from his victory and went with the Dustanny family to dinner. They ordered pizza, which a local place made Castellia style pizza, something Samuel never had before, but it was deep, thick, and delicious. After dinner the conversation flowed like water down Meteor Falls. Samuel learned that there was a B class gym located in the city too. It was more of a resort than a gym, but the tourist destination still had the license, so Samuel thought he would go check it out before he left. A class gyms are the ones that give out badges that qualify you to enter the pokemon league, but a B class gym is just a place to battle and train. They tend to not have themes, and are sometimes promoted to A class if a position opens up. The most famous B class gyms are the fighting dojo in Kanto, and the Virbank & Humilau City gyms in Unova. The fighting dojo was demoted after Sabrina came to town, which caused a huge controversy and changed the guidelines for gyms and how they become A class. The Virbank and Humilau gyms rose to fame when the entire Unova region had to redo it’s gym system, which lead to 3 out of 8 gyms being changed.
Samuel reached the gym and saw that it was a big resort. You wouldn’t be able to tell that the were in the middle of the desert with all the water, green plants and palm trees dotting the estate. Samuel reached the front counter in the lobby and asked to challenge the gym leader. The receptionist said that the next open position was in a few hours to battle. Samuel took the spot and decided to walk around the resort. The entire theme for the resort was pokemon and pokemon battling. There were multiple battle fields around the outsideareas of the resort, and many different terrains like water, ice, grass, rocky, sand, forest, dirt, and artificial materials like tile. Samuel watched a few battles, aiming mostly for the pokemon he hasn’t seen much of. Samuel walked over to watch a battle between a local and a trainer from Unova. Samuel watched as a Flitiana battle a Pansear. The Flitiana was moving around gracefully through out the battle field, but the Pansear was able to dodge every attack. “This battle is jalepeno hot! Pansear’s moves are leaving a delightful aftertaste.” Samuel wondered who was making constant food references during the match. He looked around and saw two trainers in what looked like waiter uniforms watching the match. One had a Panpour next to him, and the other had a Pansage. Each of the boys had hair to match the color of their pokemon. Samuel looked out and saw that the trainer of the Pansear had red hair matching his pokemon. “Pansear’s attacks are perfectly seasoning this battle.” said the trainer with the blue hair. “Yes,” Said the trainer with the green hair, “And Chili’s tactics are making this a gourmet battle.” Samuel rolled his eyes at the references, thinking that they must be very bland in real life. After a few more minutes the battle was finally over, and the trainer with the Pansage won and celebrated with more cooking and food references, which further annoyed Samuel. “Who else would like to challenge the stupendous Striaton gym leaders!” Samuel immediately remembered who they were. The three brothers were gym leaders in Unova, but they gym was closed down because it was not following certain rules and regulations. Samuel remembered they were also waiters, who for some reason still wore their uniforms. Samuel jumped up yelling “I challenge the former gym leaders!” It wasn’t every day you could battle a former gym leader, so Samuel wanted this chance. “Well what a delightful challenge.” Said the boy with blue hair. “Pick your entree and let the battle begin.” Samuel didn’t know what he was talking about at first, then he realized that he meant pick his opponent. Samuel thought for a minute and made his decision. “I pick all three of you. It’ll be a best out of three match.” “What a delightful pick, a three course meal.” Said The boy  with red hair. Samuel wanted to strangle the annoying boys for their terrible references integrated in their conversation, but he thought it would be best to use his anger on the battlefield.

Chapter 36
“I choose you Steelix!” Clayton sent out a mighty Steelix, which Samuel thought would be easy. “Okay, go Feraligatr!” Samuel sent out his pokemon, and immediately began to mega evolve him. As Samuel was doing that, Clayton mega evolved his Steelix, which Samuel had never seen before. The battle was now between two mega pokemon, and everyone in the stands shifted with the excitement. “Feraligatr us water pulse!” Feraligatr shot out a pulse of water and hit Steelix dead on the forehead. Samuel was sure it would've hurt, but Steelix was still moving. Slowly but moving. “That’s Mega Steelix’s ability diamond core. No moves are super effective, but it does slow the big guy down a bit.” Clayton said. This completely threw off Samuel’s strategy, but he was still determined to win. “Keep using water pulse!” Samuel shouted. Steelix was slow, and Feraligator was fast. At least faster. Steelix kept swinging it’s tail, hoping to hit. Feraligator kept shooting water and dodging hits like a pro. Eventually, an attack hit and Feraligatr was knocked back against the wall, but okay. Samuel noted that Clayton was ont giving commands, and he was just standing there watching the battle. “Maybe he doesn’t need to give commands, maybe he’s trained his pokemon that much where they don’t need to speak.” Samuel thought. Feraligatr stood up and rushed towards the giant snake. Steelix raised it’s tail to hit, and Feraligatr’s jaw glowed blue for a Gator Bite attack. Then, Steelix’s tail, instead of hitting Feraligatr, smashed itself and sent him tumbling down. “Use gator bite!” Samuel commanded. Feraligatr jumped up and crunched down on Steelix’s head protrusion. The attack sent a strong wave of blue over Steelix, and he fell onto the ground knocked out.
Clayton called back his pokemon and sent out his next. It was a Flygon, much like the one Samuel rode on the previous day. “Feraligtr use ice fang!” Feraligatr rushed towards Flygon but it was too fast. Flygon flew up into the air and sent out a dragon pulse. It hit Feraligatr, but he was alright. “Use water pulse, but chill it with an ice fang.” Feraligatr shot out another pulse of water, this time with ice dotted in the blue stream. Flygon flew around to avoid it, but eventually was hit by the attack. Flygon shook it off and continued to use dragon pulse on Feraligatr. After another minute or two, Samuel called back Feraligatr. Flygon may have gotten a cold, but not much real damage has been done. “Alright, let’s go Rosendria!” Samuel called out his newly evolved dragon pokemon. Samuel note only wanted to see what she could do, but he wanted to show Terra what he could do as a trainer. “Rosendria use thorn storm!” Rosendria flew towards Flygon with determination. She let out a wave of thorns from her tail, which hit Flygon dead on. “Flygon use dragon pulse!” “Rosendria use St. George’s Force!” Both orders were followed, each hitting their target. Rosendria was hit hard, but was able to stay airborne. Flygon was not so lucky. Flgon fell to the ground, completely knocked out. “Like it?” Samuel said. “Thorn storm doubles the damage from the next attack. Since St. George Force was a dragon type attack, Flygon didn’t stand a chance.” Clayton called back his pokemon and silently sent out his last one. Samuel had an idea what it would be. Clayton called out his last pokemon, a large but strong looking Dustanny.
“Thorn storm Rosendria!” Samuel shouted out. Rosendria sent out another whirlwind of thorns, but Dustanny was too fast. Dustanny whipped up a dust devil attack and started bouncing around the arena, hitting the walls and ceiling. The little duststorm surrounding Dustanny caused by the attack was getting everywhere, and Samuel wondered why. Then, Samuel noticed that Rosendria was blinking furiously. ‘The sand’s in her eyes. She can’t see.’ Thought Samuel. Dustanny finally stopped and landed on Rosendria while in mid air. Dustanny’s feet started to glow pink, and she jumped up a little, and then slammed them into Rosendria, who fell straight into the ground, with Dustanny following, getting ready for another attack. Rosendria flew out of the way in time, but didn’t make it very far. “Rosendria return.” called Samuel. Both of his pokemon were weakened, and he was only one pokemon away from victory or defeat. The Dustanny was powerful, and Samuel could tell  it was trained well. “Okay, let’s do this. Go Basilake!” Samuel sent out his last pokemon. It was Basilake, who up until recently was a very disobedient pokemon. Samuel saw that change, and hoped what he saw was permanent. “Use wave rider!” Basilake sped towards Dustanny, and Dustanny didged it with another dust devil attack. This time was different, Basilake was able to follow, and eventually hit Dustanny, knocking it off of the dust cloud. “Water pulse!” Samuel shouted. Dustanny was fast, but Basilake was faster. The attack hit Dustanny, and confused it as well. Dustanny tried to whip up another dust devil attack to bounce around, but it failed shortly and Dustanny fell to the ground. “Basilake use surf!” Shouted Samuel. Basilake created a huge ball of water, larger than Samuel thought he could, only having recently learned that move. The ball of water was released and sent hurtling towards at Dustanny. The tsunami hit the rabbit pokemon, and washed out the entire field. After the water drained away, Dustanny was passed out in the middle of the field, knocked out from the large wave. “Dustanyn is unable to battle. The victory goes to Samuel!” Shouted Gia. Samuel ran out to Basilake, bu slipped on the mud. Samuel slid towards his pokemon like he was going down a slip and slide, and crashed into basilake lightly. Samuel and Basilake laughed. Samuel was glad to have won the battle, but even more excited to have his friend.

Chapter 35
Samuel and Terra landed near the gym. Flygon landed and Terra slid off, almost collapsing as she landed. Samuel ran around and grabbed her before she could hit the ground. Benny was outside the gym waiting for his sister and Samuel’s return. Two middle aged people, a man and a woman, most likely their parents, walked Terra into the gym. The woman ran towards Samuel and thanked him for his help. “We were so worried, thank you so much for saving Terra. If Team Eclipse got her and the Lumen Relic I don’t know what we would’ve done.” “It’s no problem.” replied Samuel. “I’ve had a few run ins with them before,  they’re nothing I can’t take care of.” “Well, thanks again. Please come in for something to drink, you must be very tired.” Samuel accepted the offer and went with the family to their home behind the gym. It was a small, cute home with one floor and a large yard.  The inside was decorated with earth tones and vibrant red and green trims. Samuel took a seat on the couch while Terra’s father took her to a room in the back. “Terra’s father is the town doctor. He’ll make sure she gets well. I’m Gia by the way, and my husband in Hank.” Said Terra’s mother. “I’m Samuel. I’m a trainer collecting info for Professor Cedar. I’m challenging the gyms along the way for fun.” “Oh that’s wonderful!” said Gia. “Unfortunately Terra, the gym leader here, is in no condition to battle.” “I figured. Why did Team Eclipse want her anyway?” Gia got up and walked over to a bookshelf in the room and grabbed an old looking book from a shelf. “They were looking for the Lumen Relic. Legend has it that it’s supposed to have ability to control some mythical pokemon in the region. Nobody has seen it for quite some time, we don’t even know if it’s in the city or sold by some thieves to a land far away. Here’s a picture of it in case you were curious. It’s only a drawing of some descriptions of it, but still.” Gia opened up the book and pointed to an image deep inside. It was very close to the item that Samuel picked up in the ruins when battling the wild pokemon. “Samuel pulled it out of his pocket and showed Gia. Her jaw dropped. “Where did you find this?” Asked Gia in awe over the discovery. “I found it in the ruins. I was battling some wild pokemon and stumbled onto it. I picked it up thinking it should be in a museum.” “This is far too dangerous to be put in a museum. Take good care of this and do not let anyone knw you have it.”
Samuel and Gian quickly changed the subject in case someone else came by, like Team Eclipse. Benny and Hank came back into the room and told them that Terra would be fine and she would just need to rest for a while. ‘’That’s good” said Samuel. “Is the gym going to be shut down for a little while?” Samuel asked. He  didn’t think it was an appropriate time, but he wanted to get out of town with the Lumen Relic fast, and the gym match was what Samuel came for. “Stop by the gym tomorrow at noon. We’ll take care of you.” Responded Gia. Samuel joined the family for dinner and told them about his adventures, and Gian & Hank told them about theirs. “I used to work in Celadon City in Kanto.” Said Hank. “I left because of the corruption in the city thanks to Team Rocket. So I moved here, met Gia, and the rest is history.” “I used to be the gym leader, and my grandfather before me, and so on. This place has been in our family for generations.” Gia stood up and walked over to a shelf near the bookcase. There were old pictures of every gym leader, each with a Dustanny. “Dustanny is sort of our family crest. Like the famous Lannister family has Pyroar and the Stark family has Mightyena.” Samuel nodded his head and studied each picture. Suddenly, one picture looked very familiar. Samuel looked in closer and recognized one man, or he thought he did. he looked like the ghost of the lighthouse he visited earlier in his trip. “Oh that’s Ronald. Have you been to the famous lighthouse? The keeper who died there was his brother.” Samuel told them about his trip, but excluded meeting the ghost and the Silver Wing, just so they didn’t think he was crazy.
Samuel had BBQ with the family and left shortly after sunset. “Are you sure you can’t stay the night? It’s the least we can do.” Asked Hank. “Sorry, I have things to take care of. I need to get my team ready for tomorrow.” Samuel replied. He thanked them for their hospitality and went on his way. He needed to rest up his team and switch them around for the ground type gym. He also had to talk to professor Cedar and see what was up with the Hydreigon.
“So it looked like the pokemon was done for, so I only had one option. I threw a dusk ball and caught the big guy.” Samuel explained what happened to the professor over webchat. he wanted to know how he could possibly catch a pokemon that was already caught by another trainer. “Well, there’s a few ideas. Did you happen to see the pokeball that Hydreigon came out of?” Asked the professor. Samuel didn’t. “If the pokeball was destroyed before you caught him, Hydreigon has been released and able to be caught again. Also if Samson was using some knock off pokeball that aren’t made by the official company and on the black market, the pokemon may have still been catchable. I’m more wondering why Hydreigon didn’t fight it at all.” “Well,” said Samuel. “Samson was already gone. He teleported out of there with a pokemon, leaving Hydreigon behind. Maybe Hydreigon would rather have been caught then killed.” Samuel and Professor Cedar talked a bit more about the subject, but neither could think of a concrete answer. Samuel told her about the Lumen Relic and his dinner with the Dustanny clan, as Samuel jokingly called them. Samuel traded around his pokemon, using almost an entirely new team. Samuel took a long cool shower and went to bed, plotting strategies in his head for the next day.
Samuel woke up and gathered his things and headed over to the gym right away. He had Tibetpup with his as a companion, and Samuel did not feel like watching the egg he had or keeping it in his bag. Samuel arrived at the gym and greeted the receptionist. ‘Gia is expecting you, she is in the arena. Samuel followed the signs and found a plain, dirt arena in what looked like an aircraft hangar. “Okay, I’m here. Who’s my opponent.” Samuel asked, although he was almost sure of the answer. From the stands Samuel could see the Dustanny clan, with Terra sitting in in front in comfy clothes, still tired from the previous day. Behind Terra was Benny, Hank, and an old man Samuel recognized from the pictures. The old man stood up and slowly walked to the battlefield. Samuel watch as the old man slowly made his way to where Gia was standing, and eventually took the position for battle. “I,Clayton” said the old man, “will battle in my granddaughter’s place.” “Alright Clayton,” Samuel replied, “Let’s do this!” Gia announced the rules, a 3v3 match, and the battle begun.

Chapter 34
Samuel made his way down a few more tunnels, but this time without Asphynx’s help. Samuel wished he could keep her around for longer, but she was about to pass out, and Samuel would rather her get some rest instead of that. Only Thornal was in shape to battle, everyone else was tired. After what seemed like forever walking around the underground maze of the ruins, Samuel finally heard voices. “I’m starting to lose my patience. Tell me where the Lumen Relic?” yelled the first figure, who Samuel figured out was Samson of Team Eclipse. “I have no idea where it is, nobody has seen it for years. And if I did know where it was I wouldn’t give it to you!” The other person talking then spat in Samson’s face. Samuel looked at the other person and saw that she was tied up, bound to one of the many columns in the room. Samuel looked around at the room and saw that it must have been a tomb for the king. The room was painted in bright sapphire and ruby paint, depicting ancient gods and deities. The room itself was bare besides the columns, alter, and what appeared to be where an ancient sarcophagus was, but Samuel expected that from a tomb that was victim to thieves for centuries. Samson laughed at Terra’s small act of defiance and raised his hand. “I guess I’ll have to get the location out of you by force!” Samuel and Thornal saw this and Thornal screeched out loud. “THORRRRRNN!” Thornal flew into mid air and let out a few dragon bombs around Samson. The attack did not hit him, but it did create a smokescreen of sand and dust into the room. Samuel leaped up and ran towards Terra in the commotion and began to untie her bindings. “He has my pokeballs. If we can get to them I can get us out of here.” Said Terra. “Okay, Thornal get her pokemon back from Samson!” Thornal screeched out again, making a beeline for Samson. “Go Hydreigon!” Samson sent out his dragon pokemon to fight Thornal. Thornal stopped in her path and started to fly up and away from Samson. Samson’s dragon flew up towards Thornal, chasing her as she went. Thornal was small and more nimble. She was able to weave in and out of the columns that dotted the tomb, and Hydreigon was smashing into them, sending a cloud of dust into the air with each impact.  “Let’s go Collosian, I need you one more time!” Samuel called out his large brute pokemon. Collosian was very tired, but Samuel needed somebody for protection in case Samson had another trick up his sleeve. Samuel finally managed to untie Terra and the pair was about to leave, when Collosian fell from an attack by Hydreigon. Hydreigon was staring the pair down, but was struck by a dragon bomb from Thornal. Samuel called back Collosian and Thornal unleashed more attack, sending the Hydreigon into the dirt. Thornal roared one more time, then started to glow white.
Thornal evolved into a magnificent black and red dragon. “I’d be careful if I were you.’ Warned Terra. “Rosendria are powerful but not the best for trainers. It can help now, but I’d b cautious of it later on.” Samuel looked up and saw hi dragon, battling the Hydeigon with grace he’s rarely seen in a pokemon. “Resendria use dragon bomb!” Rosendria kept shooting orange bombs out towards Hydreigon, with only every other one hitting. Samuel noticed that every time an attack missed, the room seemed weaker and closer to collapse. Samuel nudged terra and pointed towards the ceiling. Terra looked up and nodded. “Get out of here with Rosendria, and meet me in the other room. Be fast too.” Terra ran out to get ready for the attack. “Rosendria come near my and send out as much dragon bombs as you got!” Rosendria flew and landed in front of Samuel, and let out a storm of attacks. A few hit Hydreigon, but most hit the tomb itself. This was enough to break the room and send the ceiling caving in. Samuel called back Rosendria into her pokeball and ran. He turned around to see what was happening in the room he just destroyed. Hydreigon was getting smashed by rocks and it did not look good for it. Samson called out an Abra at the last second and used it to teleport out of the ruins, leaving the dragon behind. Samuel wasn’t sure what to do, so he threw a pokeball hoping it would work. Samuel had a dusk ball, which was not very common, but hopefully it would catch the dragon, despite it already having a trainer. The pokeball hit the black dragon, and for a second nothing happened. Then the dragon glew red and went into the pokeball. Samuel had no idea how it worked, but he just caught an already owned pokemon. The ball teleported to safety to Professor Cedar, who may be able to later explain what happened. Samuel turned around and ran to Terra, who was waiting on a large Flygon. Samuel hoped on and held tightly against the dragon’s scales. “It’s about time! Flygon get us out of here. Use dig!” Fylgon flew up and darted back into the ground, rabidly tunneling the pair out of the collapsing tomb. Samuel felt nauseous during the ride. It only lasted a minute, but felt much longer to Samuel. The trip through the earth was dry, dusty, and dark. After tunelling around Flygon finally reached the surface, a good quarter mile away from the ruins. Samuel’s eyes stung with the bright light. He looked around and saw the ruins fall a little, most likely from the collapsing tomb underneath. Flygon kept flying out of the desert and towards the city, making what was once a long hike into a quick flight.

Chapter 33
Samuel and his group of pokemon were in the middle of the ruins, trying to find Terra and Team Eclipse while dodging all the wild pokemon inside. “Squiriff use bubblebeam! Thornal use thorn storm!” The two pokemon unleashed a flurry of bubbles and thorns unto the horde of Azron, a rock/ghost pokemon, that were following the group. The attack hit most of Azrons, but also hit a few boulders behind them. The Azron looked at the rocks and quickly fled. Samuel and his pokemon started to stare, and Samuel became worried. “Sphylink, use clay play to put up a barrier. I’m getting worried as to why the Azrons left.” Samuel companion Sphylink, who Samuel decided not to catch until they rescued Terra, as Sphylink would be sent to the box and unable to guide him, summoned up a wave of light brown clay. The clay moved like a wave of water and built up a medium sized wall between the rocks and the group. As soon as the clay became motionless, the rocks started to make a buzzing sound. Samuel looked around at his team. Tazgrove was snarling in anticipation of a fight, Spikine’s fur was standing on end. Thornal was flying high to get a better look at the rocks. Collossian was standing guard and Dustanny was upon his shoulders. Squiriff was next to Samuel, nervous at what may come next. Sphylink was in front of the group on top of the clay mound, trying to see what was happening. Samuel and the group were underground in the ruins, which made Samuel more nervous. One cave in or one wrong move and they were stuck there. Samuel knew there was an exit, but the mound of rocks was in between them and their last chance of escape. Suddenly, Sphylink jumped off the mound and ran towards the group. She stumbled and looked back, with fear in her eyes. A giant wave of bugs raced over the mound and towards her and the rest of the group. Sphylink created a wave of clay again, but it only took out a handful of the bugs. Just as it seemed lost for her, Thornal swooped in and picked up Sphylink, just in time before she became bug food. Samuel whipped out his pokedex and saw that the bugs were Tombite, a nasty bug pokemon that must have been awakened by all the commotion from the pokemon battles and Team Eclipse. “Holy Arceus” said Samuel. The pokemon braced themselves for a fight.
Collossian swung his arms at the bugs hoping to smash them all. Dustanny ran around the room smacking individual bugs, avoiding all attacks thanks to her speed. Thornal brought Sphylink back to Samuel and flew into the wave of bugs, sending thorns and dragon attacks into the group from up above. Squiriff created a swirling water formation and sent it out to the bugs. Despite Squiriff not being the most inclined to battle, his whirlpool attack seemed to hot the most bugs and take them out. Spikine sent showers upon showers of needles unto the mass. Samuel began to wonder if he would become bald from the constant attacks. Tazgrove went after the bugs one on one, but was not doing very well. Tazgrove had a major type disadvantage, with the bug type attacks hurting him badly. Sphylink summoned another wave of clay, taking several bugs off of Tazgrove and sending them flying towards a wall. Then, Sphylink began to evolve. After the process, a larger cat pokemon stood in her place. Samuel checked his pokedex and saw that it was a Asphynx. Samuel wondered if her personality had also changed, but he couldn’t be sure. Asphynx used her powers to summon another wave of clay, but this time, it was larger and stronger. The clay engulfed the bugs and sent them back, knocking them all out.
After Samuel thought the battle was over, three of the largest bugs finally crawled out of the rock pile. They looked different, and Samuel looked them up and saw that they were Scarabis. They looked like Ninjasks, which worried Samuel. Ninjasks were strong and fast, a glass cannon, but fast. Samuel had nothing to outspeed them, and only one flying pokemon. The bugs took off, all in different directions. Thornal, Dustanny, and Collossian all sprung into action. Collosian flung his arms wildly, hoping to hit one of the bugs. Dustanny whipped up a dust devil attack, and bounced around the room engulfed in her mini twister. While Dustanny tried to hit a flying bug, she only bounced around and hit nothing. Thornal followed the bugs, but could not outspeed them. The bugs regrouped and created small orbs out of their mouths. They aimed their attack at Samuel and the remaining pokemon, but never got the chance to launch the attack. Thornal spun around in time and launched three dragon bombs at the bugs. The orange orbs hit and created a big blast of smoke. The bugs broke up and went in different dirrections. One finally flew slow and low enough for Dustanny to hit it with her dust devil attack. While the attack was a ground type attack, under certain conditions it could hit a flying type, like if the attacking pokemon was faster. The fell back and was knocked out. Thornal followed the second bug, sending orange dragon bombs out, hitting various stone objects around the room. One finally hit the bug and knocked it out. The last bug flew towards Samuel. while the other pokemon were either tired or distracted, Tazgrove jumped up to attack the bug. Instead, the Scarabis hit Tazgrove with an X-scissor and knocked the big grass type out. Collossian was too slow, and Asphynx too tired. Spikine’s attack missed, and Squiriff was exhausted. With only one option, Samuel whipped out a pokeball and threw it at the bug. As the pokeball reached the bug, a dragon bomb hit it as well. The attack sent up a cloud of smoke and Samuel could not see the result. Suddenly, after what felt like minutes but may have been fractions of a second, a pokeball fell out of the cloud and fell to the ground. Then, after settling down, the pokeball teleported to Professor Cedar with it’s new catch. Samuel let out a sigh of relief. He looked around at his team, and saw how they were exhausted from the fight. All except one pokemon. Thornal was circling the ceiling, cawing out in victory. Samuel stared at the little dragon and noticed something shiny in the corner of his eye. Samuel walked over to the object and saw it was a fancy jewel in what looked like a frame. Samuel thought it belonged in a museum, especially since relics like this were so rare, so he pocketed the totem. Before finally moving on Samuel caught Asphynx, so she could head to the professor and get some much needed rest. Samuel and his team moved on, in hopes of still finding and rescuing Terra.

Chapter 32
Samuel rushed down the stairs, with his pokemon close in toe. Alison and Duke were already outside, assembling the pokemon for battle. “Mastflare go in the sky and use flamethrower on them from up above. Spikine, Meganium, Devoant, Sadrea, and Joltaze, you guys are here defending the compound.” Duke’s pokemon left and went to their respective posts. “Samuel,” said the professor, “There’s a computer in my study next to my bedroom. Go and switch your pokemon out. We’re going to need to strategize with these things. There’s just too many for us to defeat all at once.” The professor then ran to secure another part of the compound. Samuel ran up the stairs with his pokemon close behind, trying to figure out who to use. “Tazgrove would work, maybe. Aviaxcel would be good, unless the know some rock type attacks. Terramos can work, and so can Lemurawl. Unless there’s-” Samuel stopped thinking and realized what he had to do. He was a little mad at himself that he didn’t think of it sooner, but he knew it would work. Samuel rushed to the computer and called professor Cedar. After a minute of nothing, the professor answered. “Good evening Samuel. I’m always glad to hear from you but isn’t this a bit late?” Asked the professor. “It’s an emergency professor! I need you to enter in code Sparta into pokeball transfer system.” “Samuel we’re only supposed to use that in emergencies. I don’t think-” “If there’s anyone who knows about that code it’s me. We need to do it now we don’t have much time over here.” “Okay, just give me a minute.” click click click “Okay. Some instructions just popped up.” “Follow them professor” “Okay. get ready Samuel, here it comes!”
“Joltaze keep using fireworks!” Duke’s Joltaze sent out many colorful sparks of light from it’s paws, blinding the Tumblead, making it easier for his Devoant to hit them. “Where’s Samuel, we need some help here!” yelled Alison. “He picks his team carefully, but he should know we don’t have time on our side.” “Avia!” Aviaxcel, Aviavo, Pidgeot, Grip and Thornal flew overhead, heading to the center of the Tumblead. “Well it’s good that we got some air support, but what are we going to do here?” Duke said. Then, Clawmera and Collosian came out and knocked out some of the Tumblead that were getting too close to the walls. “Wait, that’s seven pokemon. What did Samuel do? wondered Alison. As soon as she said that, a large group of pokemon came out behind the walls of the complex, and started to fight the Tumblead. “Jadite stay close, you’re on guard duty. Dratch you’re in there with the rest. Try to keep them from overpowering the others. Deceite keep using St. George’s Force. Everyone else stay with your orders!” Samuel had every single of his pokemon that he caught in Custella out and fighting. “What the? How did you? When-” said Duke, trying to get the right words out. “It’s called a code Sparta. It’s only allowed in emergencies, a trainer can request all of his pokemon instead of their usual six. I’ll have to do some paperwork after tonight but it’s better then becoming road kill.” Samuel continued to command his pokemon with precosion, predicting the Tumblead’s moves, which were almost all rollout anyway, and either knocking out the tumbleweed or make them retreat.
About five minutes later, a small group of Tumblead made their way to the group. They were bouncing past all of the other pokemon, and were heading straight for the trainers. “Jadite now!” yelled Samuel. Jadite raised it’s hands and grabbed the group of Tumblead with it’s psychic powers, and threw them far back towards the rest of the Tumblead. A few more made their way close by, and Jadite threw them all back. Finally, a very large Tumblead rolled by, and instead of throwing it back, Jadite used a confuse ray, followed by a power gem. The Tumblead was confused and hurt, so Samuel caught it. After the pokeball settled and Samuel retrieved it, Jadite started to evolve. Jadite evolved into Emraldan, which surprised Samuel. Jadite first looked like an awkward child, but now he looked like puberty was extremely kind to him. Emraldan raised it’s hands and released a strong pulse of green energy. The energy went through the area, and focused in on the remaining Tumblead. Emraldan used his powers to pick up the Tumblead and send them flying back, far enough so that when they landed and came too, they rolled off into a different direction. Samuel’s jaw dropped. He had an idea that Emraldan would be strong, but he had no idea he would be this strong. Samuel, Duke, and Alison walked around and gathered up all of their pokemon who were not close by. Most did very well, with only some of Alisons pokemon being completely knocked out. Everyone gathered back at the compound just as the sun started to rise. Samuel thanked every one of his pokemon and returned them to their pokeballs, and sent them back to Professor Cedar.
After a well earned sleep, Samuel left the next morning to Prinesa City. Duke wanted to stay behind for a little bit and catch up with the professor. Samuel said his goodbyes, and left with his team. It was only a little bit of a walk to Prinesa City, but when Samuel arrived there was a road block. “Hold it, nobody goes into the city. Official orders.” Said the first guard. “What’s going on?” Asked Samuel. “Top secret stuff, nothing we can discuss with a kid like you.” said the second guard. Samuel thought it was weird, but decided to head back. Just as Samuel turned around, he heard a transmission from a radio one of the guards had on. “We have the girl, we’re bringing her back to HQ. Samson would be happy to see her.” Samuel turned around quickly yelling “You’re team Eclipse!” The grunt with the radio picked it up and made a call on it. “This is the western blockade. Our cover’s blown, we’re going to deal with the little pest.” The grunts gave a little smirk and reached for their pokeballs. “Go Cacturne!” “Go Houndoom!” The grunts sent out their pokemon, and Samuel was determined not to lose to a Cacturne again. “Go Colossian and Dustanny!” Samuel sent out his pokemon to fight the grunt’s pokemon. The battle didn’t last long. Dustanny was used to Cacturnes so she defeated it easily. Colossian used a bulldoze and a brick break, and the Houndoom was defeated. The grunts recalled their pokemon and ran for it. They left everything behind, including a large duffle bag. Samuel walked over the bag just as it moved. Startled, Dustanny opened the bag and found a boy in it. “You need to help Terra, she’s in trouble!” said the boy. Samuel calmed him down and found out what happened. Team Eclipse kidnapped him and was looking for his sister Terra, who was also the gym leader of the city. Samuel agreed to help find his sister and stop Team Eclipse.
Samuel rode into town on Tazgrove, and Benny rode on Colossian. The ride calmed the child down, as Colossian was used to smaller ones being best friends with Emraldan when he was a little Jadite. Benny brought Samuel to the city and brought him to the gym. Samuel got directions to Eclipse’s hideout, which was on the other side of town, back out in the desert. “Great, more desert.” Said Samuel. Samuel kept his pokemon team the same, thinking that he picked them for the desert so they may have an advantage in a fight.
Samuel went out to the desert, which was much bigger than he thought. Samuel was riding Tazgrove, which made the trip a lot easier and faster. Samuel eventually found the ruins, but they were well guarded. Samuel kept looking around, trying to find a way in. Then, a little pokemon appeared over a sand dune. It looked like it was trying to get Samuel’s attention. Samuel watched it for a while, trying to figure out if it was a trap or not. After a few minutes, the little pokemon about to give up when a Trapinch appeared out of the sand. It’s jaws were opened wide, about to enjoy it’s meal. When it looked like the little pokemon was done for. Samuel and Tazgrove swept in. “Tazgrove use weed whacker!” Tazgrove struck the little trap pokemon and sent it flying. They saved the pokemon, which Samuel found out on his pokedex was a Sphylink. The little pokemon ran off, and stopped at ruins, located far from the big central building. Samuel looked around and saw that it was a hidden entrance to the ruins. “I think we found a way in, and a friend to lend us a hand.” Samuel said, looking at Sphylink.

Chapter 31
After another night in their care, Samuel and the group left the Dustanny, after many thank you. One wanted to go with them, so Samuel decided to add it to his group. They hiked for the rest of the day, mostly in silence. Finally, Samuel spoke up. “I’m sorry about last night. I fell asleep and we almost died because of it.” “No, you don’t have to apologize. The grasswhistle made you tired, it was nothing you could do. The important thing is that we’re all safe.” The boys kept walking down the road. Samuel kept riding on Tazgrove because of his back pain. Once they came to the next city they would go to a doctors office for help. Samuel wasn’t in a whole lot of pain, but the heat made it worse. Dustanny kept treating it, but it wasn’t getting much better. As the sun was getting low to the horizon, The group passed a old faded wooden sign. “Alison’s ranch. Soft bed for the weary traveler” the sign read. Dustanny perked up and got all excited. “Maybe she knows the place?” Said Samuel. “Who knows,” replied Duke. “I just don’t want to be sleeping outside again after last night. The group kept on walking, and eventually found the ranch. It was a two story house, with an old silo and a barn. The entire place was fenced in, so Samuel could only see what was above the tall fence. One thing that Samuel did not understand is that he saw trees. As they walked in the gate Samuel only had more questions. The fenced in area was lush, green, and vibrant. Pokemon wandered the grounds without fear that most desert pokemon have. Samuel and Duke walked up to the house and rang the bell. “Coming, coming” said a voice from inside. After a moment a tall, slender woman opened up the door. “Hello, you must have seen my sign. I’m Alison obviously. Come in, I’ll get you two some water. you must be tired.” “Why thank you. I’m Samuel and this is-” “Duke Cedar oh I know you. You’re mother and I used to be best friends. I saw you all the time when you were little.” Duke’s jaw dropped as he connected the dots. “Your’e Alison? I heard stories about you and have seen tons of pictures, but nobody has seen you in years.” “Oh, I’m just enjoying the quiet life now. I moved out here after I resigned and started this place. I originally wanted it to be a place for people, but it turned into a little pokemon oasis.” Duke turned to Samuel, still in awe. “This is Alison. She used to be the champion of the region when I was little.” Duke said. Samuel could tell that Duke was fangirling a little. “She resigned over some politics in the pokemon league and has been laying low ever since.” “Well aren’t you a fan.” Said Alison. “I have some spare rooms, why don’t you stay the night, no charge, and we can catch up.” The boys thanked Alison and made their way upstairs.
After a quick nap in his room, Samuel showered and got some clean clothes. Tibetpup was in the room, guarding the pokemon egg that Samuel had been carrying around since he got it from the hiker. Dustanny checked on Samuel’s back and put on fresh bandages. Samuel headed down the stairs, and followed the voices of Duke and Alison. “So you like this guy?” Samuel heard Alison say. “Ya, just don’t tell my mother. She wouldnt understand.” Samuel was not sure what they were talking about, but decided to walk loud to let them know he was coming, just in case it was a private conversation. “How’s your back feel?” asked Duke. “Much better. A cold shower helped it out, and Dustanny helps with the bandages too.” Alison looked at Dustanny “I know her, she’s part of a group of Dustanny that brings sick pokemon here. I don’t know why it joined up with you and left the group. This one is one of the more energetic ones, so maybe it wants some adventure.” The three chatted for a bit more, until Alison got up and headed outside. “My place is open to travelers, but I have to lock it at night. Duke told you that some Cacturne got you last night, but there’s a lot more to fear out there.
Samuel, Alison, Duke, and their pokemon walked around the compound as Alison checked on things. The gates were locked, fences were strongs, and pokemon alert. “I have several pokemon posted around the property, just in case something decides to sneak up on us.” Alison called over a Crobat, a Salamence, and a few other pokemon. Alison talked to them for a bit before they left to different parts of the property.
Once the sun had set, everybody was sitting around a firepit in the back. Samuel and Alison were talking about Hoenn, and Duke was getting increasingly bored with the conversation. “What kind of pokemon do you have here Alison?” asked Duke, changing the conversation. “Oh all kinds,” replied Alison. “Some are abandoned ones, some injured, some so injured they won’t make it on their own out in the wild. But some were mine from my days as a trainer and the champion.” Samuel looked around the lawn to see what pokemon were there. There was a large group of Sunflora, withdrawn from the lack of sunlight. A Reuniclus sleeping near a tree, with an Abra next to it. A Squirtle was running around, playing with a Bulbasaur and a Charmander. “What a nice peaceful place to retire to’ thought Samuel. After a bit more chatting, the group decided it was time to head to bed. Samuel and Tazgrove went to their room, and Duke and Mastflare to their. Samuel had a good night sleep, resting from the choad of the past 24 hours. At about 1 am, Samuel woke up to the startling sound of a distant stampede. As Samuel got up, what he saw was no Tauros or Miltank. It was a large group of Tumblead, and they were heading straight to the compound.

Chapter 29
Ace awarded Samuel his badge and congratulated him. After some post victory conversation with the small group that watched the battle, Samuel and Duke decided to move on to the next town together. Simon came up to Samuel and asked for an autograph. Samuel chuckled at the thought and signed the kid’s cap. Simon looked very excited and went home with a giant grin. Samuel decided to call it a night and went to hit hotel to get some rest, switch around his team, and meet Duke in the morning to head out.
The next morning Samuel and Duke headed out to the next city. Samuel had Tazgrove as his companion, as always, and Duke had his Meganium. The two hiked for a while before stopping for lunch. As they group sat and told inappropriate jokes over sandwiches and tea, a hiker came by with a Delibird. “Hey, any chance you two would like an egg?” Said the hiker. The boys look confused for a second, before Duke finally said “No thanks, we’re full.” “I don’t mean to cook stupid”, said the hiker. The hiker went over to his Delibird and went through it’s sack, pulling out two gray, white, and blues eggs. “I saw their mother get attacked by a Sneasel, now these little guys are orphans. Would you mind taking care of them?” The boys agreed and took the two eggs, wondering what was inside.
Samuel decided to take a quick break to use the bathroom. After walking off the trail for a minute, he instead found an injured pokemon. Samuel and Tazgrove went up to the little guy, and he barked viciously, trying to get the two to back off. Samuel checked it’s Pokedex and found out that it was a Tibetpup. Samuel looked up and saw a thorn sticking out of Tibetpup’s paw. Samuel and Tazgrove came closer, to which the pokemon barked again. Samuel got closer, despite the barking, but Tibetpup did not bite Samuel. “It’s okay buddy, we’re not going to hurt you. We’re just going to pull this out okay?” The Tibetpup calmed down, like it understood what Samuel was saying. “Okay, on three. One, two-” yank! Samuel pulled the thorn out early just so Tibetpup wouldn’t pull away. Tibetpup yelped but looked better once it was out. Samuel inspected the thorn for a minute and realized what it belonged to. “We should get going, this belongs to a-” Then, a horde of Roserade’s came out of the brush. They surrounded the group and looked angry. They raised their arms and aimed for. “Pecvo use psybeam!” Samuel caled out his little peacock to fend off the poison roses. Pecvo came out of it’s pokeball and immediately started to attack the Roserade’s. While the attack was spread out and didn’t hurt too much, it was enough to get the flower pokemon to flee. “Great job Pe-” Pecvo started evolving into Aviavo. After the process was done, Samuel recalled his bird and continued on his way. Then, Tibetpup followed, and Samuel decided it can join the group. Samuel wanted to hold off catching it, because his party was full and he would be sent to the lab. When Samuel rejoined Duke, he saw that he managed to catch a Joltaze. The group then packed up and headed on their way.
Samuel and Duke eventually made their way to Saturnalia Town. The town was small, so they figured they could just pass through. As they made their way to the other end of town, there was a giant herd of green pokemon. “Those are Llampor.” Said a passerby. “They won’t move, and they’re blocking the road out of town. I suggest you get comfy and spend the night here in town. There’s a little festival going on in town that’s thrown every time something like this happens.” Samuel and Duke decided to get a room at the cheapest motel in town and head over to the town square. The square was filled with vendors and trainers, all making some extra money off of the road block. “I wonder if the road block was actually an accident.” Said Duke. “Oh well, it’s a small town. they’re probably doing what they can to make the best out of a bad situation.” replied Samuel. The two walked over to a battle field to watch a few battles. It was a showcase battle, where there were 3 trainers, and the best two out of three battles won. Samuel and Duke watched in awe as the pokemon in the competition were a Mega Flareon, Mega Jolteon, and a Mega Vaporeon. Despite the type disadvantage against the Mega Vaporeon, the Mega Flareon, and it’s trainer Pyro, were undefeated and declared the winner. “Who would like the challenge the victor of this tournament?” Said the announced. Samuel and Duke looked at each other, and finally Samuel volunteered.
“Each trainer will use one pokemon each. The battle will be over once one pokemon can not continue to battle. Are the trainers ready?” Said the referee, looking towards the competitors. The both nodded their heads in agreement. “Let the match begin!” “Let’s go Flareon! Mega evolve!” Pyro called out his pokemon and immediately mega evolved it to Mega Flareon. “Go Feraligatr, Mega evolve too!” Samuel called out his pokemon and mega evolved it right away as well. “Flareon use flame charge.” “Feraligatr use gator bite!” Flareon increased it’s speed, but Feraligatr was still able to chomp down on it. “Now use water pulse and send it flying!” While Flareon was still in Feraligatr’s mouth, it used water pulse and sent the little fire pokemon into the air. Flareon landed on the other side of the battlefield, confused by the water pulse. “Flareon use heat lightning!” Pyro yelled out. Flareon looked like it just woke up from a deep sleep, and wasn’t sure where it was. It then started to glow red hot, and the air surrounding it started to become shimmer with heat. Then, Flareon let out a strong blast of lightning that hit Feraligatr dead on. Feraligatr was hurt badly, but was still able to stand up. “Feraligatr use water pulse again!” Samuel shouted. Feraligatr let out another pulse of water that Flareon took head on. “Use on more heat lightning, finish the job!” Flareon got ready to use another attack. The fire type pokemon heated up, the air started to distort, and a giant flash of lightning erupted on the battlefield. Except this time, Feraligatr was safe. Flareon’s attack, in it’s confusion, hit itself, knocking it out. “Flareon is unable to battle, Samuel is the winner!”

Chapter 30
After the battle Samuel found out that the trainers for the Eeveelutions were all from Kanto. They moved over here to breed Eevee’s because of the area. As a reward for defeating one in battle, Samuel was awarded an Eevee. Samuel was also offered a megastone for Eevee, but Samuel declined as he did not know what form he would evolve Eevee into. The festival went on for another day, but the pack of Llampor left, so Samuel and Duke decided to head on their way. Samuel switched his team around in preparation for the next part of the journey. Duke said that the next route was through a desert, so Samuel got his pokemon ready for a long, dry trip.
As Duke and Samuel made their way through Route 8, Samuel had a strange but somehow familiar feeling the entire time. Everytime Samuel felt this, he looked around but saw nothing. “I feel like something’s following us” Samuel told Duke. “But I don’t see anything, and I can’t figure it out.” “Don’t worry,” replied Duke, “I’m sure it’s nothing.” The group stopped and made camp for the night by some large rocks coming out of the ground. Samuel and Tazgrove took the first shift, and Duke and Mastflare took the second watch. Samuel and Duke stayed up telling each other stories. Duke talked about living with the professor, and Samuel talked about Slateport during the time of the battle of Groundon and Kyogre. After some late night chatting, Duke and Mastflare went to sleep. Samuel and Tazgrove stayed up and fed the fire. Samuel had a hunch something was watching them, but he only had his gut to go on and no facts.
Samuel listened to the musics of nature and started to feel sleepy. “I guess a few minutes of shut eye won’t hurt. Tazgrove keep-” Samuel looked over at Tazgrove and saw he was asleep too. “Oh well, I’ll wake up soon.” Samuel said. He started to doze off as the sounds of nature seemed to be getting stronger. It was very earthy, natural, and soothing. Samuel was falling closer and closer to sleep. He then thought he saw something move in the distance. Samuel perked up but saw nothing. He figured he was just really tired, and listened to the sounds of nature again. Just as Samuel was about to fall asleep, he saw a pair of yellow eyes only a few yards away, staring at him. Samuel jumped up. The fire seemed to die down, but he could still make out what it was. Samuel was only feet away from a wild Cacturne. As Samuel stood up he saw that him and Duke were surrounded by a whole horde of the cactus pokemon. Samuel realized that the sounds he heard was not the sounds of nature, but grasswhistle, a pokemon attack that lures it’s opponents to sleep. Samuel kicked Tazgrove to wake him up. Tazgrove slowly opened it’s eyes and jumped up when he registered what was going on. The commotion woke Duke and Mastflare up as well. The group was now all awake, but not happy. “This looks bad.” Duke said to Samuel. “I’ve heard about what these things can do. A few days before I went to the desert back in Hoenn a group hunted down a trainer and his pokemon. The rangers looked for days, but I managed to find him near some old rocks in the southern part of the desert.” Samuel recalled when he found the trainer and his pokemon. He tried to never think about that day again. Samuel was scared, but he has something the trainer didn’t have. “Tazgrove use weed whacker! Auromice, Kindler, Basilake, Tibetpup and Gekliodo I need you all!” Samuel called out his entire team, including Basilake. He didn’t want this night to be his last, so he gave it everything he had.
Samuel’s team fought hard Duke sent out his team as well to fight off the Cacturne as well.. Tazgrove managed to take out a few Cacturne. Kindler and Auromice both got a few out as well. Gekliodo had the best luck, as he was more suited for the desert. Tibetpup stayed near Samuel and kept guard. Basilake wasn’t so lucky. After ignoring Samuel’s commands, he was quickly overpowered by the Cacturne. Samuel ran to save him, with Tibetpup and Tazgrove alongside. Tazgrove kept the Cacturnes back, and Tibetpup was watching Samuel. Samuel managed to get to Basilake just in time. He was hurt bad, still breathing, but not doing great. Two Cacturne slipped past Tazgrove, and one held off Tibetpup and the other went for Samuel and Basilake. Samuel shielded Basilake from the attack, taking a needle arm to the back. Samuel yelled out in pain, but his only concern at the moment was Basilake. Kindler ran over to Samuel and used a strong fire fang on the Cacturne, knocking it out. Kindler used protect to keep Samuel and Basilake safe and Tazgrove and Tibetpup dealt with the remaining Cacturne. Samuel was in a lot of pain. He remembered seeing a bright light, a protect, some pokemon attacks, and then Samuel passed out.
Samuel woke up the next morning, laying in the shade of the rocks they originally camped by. Samuel remained still, as it hurt to move. Then a little brown face popped up inches from Samuel. Then Tazgrove’s face popped up next to it. He instantly started licked Samuel all over, relieved that his trainer was alright. “Oh good, you’re finally up.” Said Duke, sitting a few feet from Samuel. Duke helped Samuel to sit up, and Samuel finally got a good look around. His pokemon were all out and moving. Mastflare was also up, keeping watch. The little brown pokemon was next to Samuel, but it was joined with around two dozen of the same species. “Oh, these are Dustanny. After the battle last night, a group came by and helped out. I don’t know what they did, but you were in bad shape before they came along.” Samuel thanked the Dustanny group as he began to look around. “Oh, Auromice evolved into Titanice, and Kindler evolved into Terramoss last night. He was amazing. He took out like half the Cacturne and was still ready for more. We owe our necks to him. Samuel looked over and saw Terramoss standing guard, just in case the Cacturne came back. Samuel also spotted Basilake. Basilake was next to Samuel, on the side opposite Tazgrove and the Dustanny. “Ya he hasn’t left your side since last night. He refused to have the Dustanny treat him unless they were finished helping you.” Samuel looked over at his pokemon, and smiled. “I hope this did the trick” thought Samuel.

Chapter 28 part 2
“Griffid use spiral dive!” Samuel commanded his pokemon to fly up into the sky and dive down towards his target. If the attack missed, Griffid would slam into the ground, but Samuel trained Griffid to brush off that damage. “Use wild charge Gripollo!” Samuel winced at this thought, thinking that this attack was going to hit hard. Gripollo flew up, with static in it’s mane, and Griffid flew down, spinning as it prepared to attack. Just as the attacks were about to meet, Griffid moved out of the way at the last minute. He turned around in midair and waited for a command. “Use whirlwind!” Samuel knew Griffid could think for himself in a battle. This was good and bad, as sometimes in training Griffid would make poor choices, but other times his moves are hard to predict and counter by his opponents. The whirlwind blew Gripollo up into the air, but it was able to steer and not be blown too far off. “Use steel wing Gripollo.” “Whirlwind and stomp Griffid!” Gripollo soared towards Gripollo ready to strike. Griffid started to create a large whirlwind, but not strong enough to send Gripollo back. Gripollo fought the strong wind, getting closer and closer to Griffid. Then, Griffid stopped the whirlwind. Gripollo jolted forward and Griffid slammed it with a stomp attack. Gripollo was sent flying, and eventually crashed into the ground. “”That was awesome Griffid!” Samuel cheered. “Griff, Griffid!” Griffid exclaimed, proud of it’s attack. Then, Griffid started to glow, and began the familiar process of evolution. Samuel’s new Gripollo spread his wings wide and roared out in it’s new form. “I’m assuming this is your first time with a Gripollo, so I’ll explain it to you” Said Ace from across the battlefield. “When a Gripollo evolves, it automatically can gain the ability changling. On top of that their movepool changes to go along with their ability. It’s different for each evolution, but let’s see what happens.” Samuel looked up at his new Gripollo nervously, not sure what to expect. “Gripollo use steel wing” yelled Ace. “Griffid, eh, Grippo-, that won’t work. Umm, Grip? That sounds fine. Grip see what you can do and charge towards Gripollo!” Samuel quickly decided on what to call his pokemon to avoid confusion with the two Gripollos. Ace’s Gripollo flew towards Grip, hardening up to launch the steel type attack. “Okay Grip let’s see what you got. Charge at Gripollo!” Grip flew towards Ace’s Gripollo and started to become inflamed. Grip sped up and charged into Gripollo. “Sweet, flame charge” said Samuel. “WooHoo! Go Grip and Samuel!” Samuel looked over into the stands and saw his little friend Simon, cheering him and Grip on. “Gripollo use wild charge” “Grip let’s see what else you got.” As Gripollo flew towards Grip, sparks surrounding it, Grip did the same thing, sparks and all. The two met in mid air and created a giant flash of electricity. They bounced back and Grip continued to fly, but Gripollo was having trouble staying in the air. “He’s partially paralyzed.” Said Samuel. “Now’s our chance Grip, use one more wild charge!” “You too Gripollo” Gripollo started to move towards Grip, but he was too slow. Grip slammed into Gripollo and sent it plummeting into the ground. Gripollo crashed, and was knocked out. “Gripollo is unable to battle, the battle goes to Samuel” exclaimed the judge. “We did it! That was awesome Grip!” “Grip, Gripollo!” cheered Grip. Samuel looked into the small crowd that formed and saw Simon and Duke, clapping at the victory.

Chapter 28
The stealth rocks raced towards, Griipollo, doing their job and hurting it in midair. “Erdge use thunder wave!” Erdge sent out another jolt of electricity and Gripollo swiftly dodged it. “Gripollo use tectonic force!” Gripollo nose dived to the ground, and as soon as it was going to hit the battlefield it pulled it’s front arms out and slammed the ground with full force. The ground began to shake and crack apart, with energy bursting out of where the ground opened up. The effect headed towards Erdge, and the ground opened up below his feet, sending a force of light up and hurting Erdge. “Erdge! Are you okay???” After the light faded and dust settled, Erdge was able to stand up. His ability, stabalize, reduced the effect of the ground type attack, and saved his from being defeated. “Great Erdge, use thunderbolt, now!” Edge sent out a powerful bolt of electricity, but Gripollo was unaffected. “Like that? Gripollo’s ability is changling. It’s like protean but only effects the primary type. Tectonic force was a ground type move, so it’s now a ground type and electrical attacks won’t work. Use one more tectonic force Gripollo!” Gripollo did the same attack as before with identical results, except this time Erdge was knocked out. “Erdge come back, you did great. You’re up Kylaseis!” Samuel sent out his dinosaur pokemon, in hopes to stall and find out the rest of Gripollo’s attack as to plan who to send out for his last pokemon. “Gripollo use steel wing” Gripoolo outstretched it’s wings as the began to glow silver. Gripollo flew towards Kylaseis ready to strike. “So that’s ground and steel type,” Samuel thought to himself. “Use rock slide!” Kylaseis sent out a river of boulders and a few were able to hit Gripollo, but it’s new steel type managed to keep Gripollo from major damage. Gripollo’s wings struck Kylaseis, but it wasn’t enough to knock him out. “Use tectonic force again” Gripollo created another ground shattering attack and knocked out Kylaseis. “You did good budd, take a nice long rest” Samuel said as he recalled his pokemon. “Who do I use?” Samuel thought to himself. “Jadite has the movepool but won’t be able to stand those strong attacks, Pecvo’s movepool won’t hurt Gripollo is he goes steel type, Aviaxcel has the same problem. Griffid may not be able to di this either Gripollo has too many good moves. And worse I don’t even know what it’s other moves are.” Samuel realized that this may be the first gym battle that he’ll lose in Custella. Samuel realized that if he didn’t win, he might as well learn something. “Go Griffid!” Samuel called out his last pokemon. While He may not win, Samuel thought that battling a Gripollo might help Griffid out a bit. “Now this is going to get interesting.” Said Ace.

Chapter 27
Samuel’s prize was a voucher for some stays at select hotels around the region, which would be very useful, some money, and a Pidgeot with a mega stone. Samuel also met the gym leader and was invited to go to the gym the following day. After catching up with Duke some more and switching out his pokemon, Samuel decided to head over to the gym. Samuel wanted to use the Pidgeot at his gym battle, but he didn’t know anything about it’s power yet, so he wanted to wait and train it later. Samuel switched his team around, keeping in mind the rumors he heard that this gym used flying type pokemon. Samuel arrived at the gym and saw that there was a windmill at the front. Samuel was worried at first, thinking that it was going to be an odd battle, then he realized it was just the front, and that there was a battling facility underneath it. Samuel heard a loud caw sound and looked up. He saw a trainer up in the air by the windmill blades flying in and out of the moving blades. Samuel watched for a minute until the trainer and his pokemon flew away from the blades and towards land. The pokemon looked like it was going towards the back of the gym, but changed course, making a bee line towards Samuel. Samuel got ready to run, but realized who it may be on the pokemon. Samuel stood his ground, but braced for an accidental impact. The pokemon was a Gripollo, and it landed right in front of a prepared Samuel. The trainer got off the pokemon, and introduced himself. “I’m Ace, I’m the gym leader here. I recognized you from the tounament the other day.” The two started chatting and Ace agreed to a battle. “Let me just change into something more comfortable and I’ll meet you in a few on the field out back.” Ace was wearing some skintight clothes that were meant to cover his body while flying, that way he wouldn’t get too cold from the wind and high altitude.  Ace went inside and Samuel headed to the rear of the building where the arena was located.

Chapter 26
“Each trainer will use three pokemon in this battle, with up to three substitutions allowed. Standard rules apply, let the battle begin.” Cried the referee. Samuel and Duke shook hands in the middle of the field, “I guess your other battles went well” joked Duke. “Yours too. All except this one.” The boys laughed and took their spots on the battlefield. “I chose you Sadrea!” Duke called out his first pokemon, an electric dragon that flew into the air. “Okay, go Clawmera!” Samuel called out his Clawmera, who evolved from a previous battle in the tournament. Sadrea was up in the air out of Clawmera’s reach, but Samuel had a few tricks up his sleeve. “Clawmera use snowstorm.” Clawmera opened her mouth and let out a blue beam of energy, hitting Sadrea. While Sadrea was able to bounce back, the attack had a special effect where it summoned hail throught the arena, giving an ice type like Clawmera an advantage. The attack also froze Sadrea’s left hind leg, making it hard for it to fly. “Sadrea use dragon tail.” Sadrea ran towards Clawmera and hit it with it’s green glowing tail, knocking it towards Samuel and sending it into it’s pokeball. A pokeball next to it opened up, and Deceite, formerly Snabbin, came out. “Deceite use Crunch.” Deceite ran up to Sadrea and chomped down on it’s front right leg. “Use thunderbolt Sadrea” yelled Duke. Sadrea became electrified and it flowed over to Deceite. Deceite was getting zapped hard, but wasn’t letting go. Samuel learned that Deceite’s were not very friendly, they liked to lie to others and were very stubborn when it came to training. Samuel discovered that Deceite stayed true to his pre-evolved self. He listened to Samuel, was loyal, enjoyed training, and wanted to fight hard in battles. He was cold to any trainer besides Samuel, but listened to Samuel when instructed to be nice to others. “Now Deceite, use St. George Force!” This move was something that Samuel learned how to teach back in Hoenn. Mostly dragon types could learn it, and it was strong. A bright orange glow started to cover Deceite, which grew stronger and brighter. Finally, the orange aura flew up and took the form of an energy bolt with a dragon head. The bolt of power struck Sadrea, and it was knocked out.
“Sadrea come back, you did great. Go Spiritomb!” Duke called out his spiritomb, and immediately pressed a megastone on his wrist, turning his pokemon into Mega Spiritomb. Deceite, use crunch.” Deceite ran up to Spiritomb and bit it on the keystone. “Use will-o-wisp Spiritomb.” An eerie blue flame came out of the ghost and hit Deceite. Not only would it hurt it, but Deceite’s attack was cut in half, making his offensive powers not a big threat anymore. “Deceite come back, you did great. Go Wulfrizer!” Samuel called out his third pokemon Wulfrizer. Samuel knew that it’s fairy typing was the only thing that could hurt the ghost hard. “Use dazzling claw!” “Use will-o-wisp again!” Wulfrizer dodged the blue flame and hit Spiritomb dead on. “Use dream dance!” Wulfrizer started to move around the field in an odd pattern, and it gained power. To what stat Samuel did not know, because dream dance raises two random stats. “Use dazzling claw again” shouted Samuel. Wulfrizer moved faster than before, most likely due to the stat increase. “Use psychic Spiritomb!” Spiritomb started to send you bursts of dark purple energy, with Wufrizer being able to dodge most of them. When Wulfrizer got in close he slashed the ghost, and Spiritomb used one last psychic on Wulfrizer at the same time. Both pokemon were knocked back a few yards, both unable to battle.
“Great job Wulfrizer, take a break. Okay, you’re up Deceite!” Samuel sent out his Deceite, who was already tired from battling already. “Go Devoant!” Duke sent out his fighting type, which made Samuel worried. “Deceite use St. George force” Deceite sent out another blast of dragon shaped energy, but it was much weaker than the first one. Devoant dodged tha attack and made it’s way towards Deceite. “Use boxing gloves Devoant!” “Use St. George force one more time!” The red fur on Devoant’s from paws started to glow white as it made it’s way towards the dragon. Deceite readied another attack, launchint it as the punch landed. Devoant was hurt, but Deceite was knocked out. “Deceite return, you did good. Go Clawmera!” Samuel sent out his last pokemon, who still had some fight in her. “Use glare!” Clawmera looked over at it’s opponent and her eyes started to flash red. Devoant was paralyzed and couldn’t move. “ Now use cross poison!” Clawmera raced over to Devoant and slashed it with it’s poisonous claws, knocking it out, and winning Samuel the tournament.
