Another hobby of mine is upland hunting for Ruffed Grouse and Pheasant. Our new pup recently began his training with On Point Kennel in Deerfield NH. Between a couple larger projects, I’m taking a quick break to refresh the paint on the name boards from the tug that I run for @morantowing. The boat has some years on her and so do these boards. This is not a complete re-finish - I just wanted to spend a little time dressing them up the best I can. The professionals who do this kind of work are a special breed. I’m sure they have a few tricks up their sleeves, probably be laughing at my approach. Birch ply is hit or miss around here in terms of figure or character. I was able to find a couple good sheets for this project. One coat of @minwaxusa sanding sealer and three coats of @generalfinishes water-based, satin top coat. Each coat applied with @fujisprayofficial 4-stage HVLP system, hand-sanded with 220 and 320 grit between coats. An added benefit of the Festool Domino. Experimented with using them to hang panels for finishing with an HVLP system. I knew the dominos in the top and bottom panels were rock solid because of the depth of lunge but I was concerned with the side panels having used the extra wide mortise setting on the DF500 for adjustment during assembly. These Sony WH-1000XM3 noise cancelling headphones are sanding gold. They have microphones to pick up low-frequency noise and neutralize it before it reaches the ear. The headset generates a sound that's phase-inverted by 180 degrees to the unwanted noise, resulting in the two sounds cancelling each other out. Makes hours of sanding almost bearable. The TV in the corner is a great tool to have in the shop. I broke out the @festool_usa LR32 system for this cabinet project but haven’t used it in a while. Cutting a radius in the ends of cedar 2x4s. Festool Carvex for rough cut then RO 90 with 89 grit to creep up on the line. A lot of my projects start at @selectwood_nh . Nice selection of hardwood plywood and I usually don’t have to spend a ton of time picking through their stock to find a workable piece.
