Exit Pursued By Bear!

Next up on the ‘CTCNI’ agenda is a four piece alternative rock band from Limavady in Northern Ireland known as Exit Pursued By Bear!
The members of the band are four men (which can’t be safe or hygienic) who go by the names Sean Mullan (Lead Guitar), Michael Mc Macken (Lead Singer, Rhythm Guitar), Ronan Hart (Bassist) and Conor Crampsie (Drummer) ... To prevent any fights between them the names where typed in no particular order, we love you all equally.
Now my mama taught me never to tell a lie so I’m going to be honest, the email I received from them was the first time I had ever heard of EPBB (Hope they don’t mind me shortening it) and I honestly don’t know how this is possible! EPBB recorded their first E.P last Summer and quickly moved onward and upward from there. It’s a great quality, especially in a band to see your weakness and know how to strengthen them and with this in mind the band set out with the aim of bettering their first E.P, and my dear sweet baby potatoes they did it!!!
The second E.P, was quite confidently named ‘Forget Saving Earth (The World is Ours)’ and was released only a short few weeks ago on the 30th January 2012. Now thats a way to start the new year!

(We need Bear Grylls’ assistance!!!)
EPBB are fans of bands such as Incubus, Muse, And So I Watch You From Afar and Radiohead. Their love of these bands and genre of this music streams through their own music but with that extra added uniqueness. After listening to the bands music for the first time just a day ago (and not being able to get ‘Cities in the Sky’ out of our heads) there is one thing that is so truly obvious here ... these guys know and love music!!!
The lyrics are deep and metaphorical and you feel every word they say like they mean it. To quote one of our favourite lines in the song ‘Broken Pixels’ ‘The stars are broken pixels ,Against the monitor of space’ makes us shiver. This line gives you no choice but to gaze at the night sky and see it for more than what it is. To say that EPBB think outside of the box is a bit of an understatement in our eyes.
Their progress so far through the music scene has gone quite swimmingly with one of their tracks, ‘And I You Yours’ reaching the top 10 in the NI Charts more than once, and doing exactly what it says and catching that up is another one of their masterpieces ‘Catch You Up’ which has been played on numerous occasions on BBC Introducing at Radio 1. With being on many radio stations, doing radio sessions and have submitted applications to festivals such as Glasgowbury and the Stendhal, we can not help but wonder where EPBB find the time to create such amazing, catchy and enjoyable music. One thing we do hope is that they continue to do it seamlessly while still letting their hometown accents come through!
Exit Pursued by Bear, CCTNI are definitely on board and look forward to hearing the future music being played on BBC’s Across the Line, BBC introducing and many other stations in the near future!

(Boys will be boys!)

Jilly St John is ... Wyldling!
So who will be the band/artist to pop the CTC blogging cherry?
It is the one, the only, the edgy, the sexy (Drum Roll Please) .... Wyldling.
Wyldling is the alias of the former front woman of 'No Mean City', Miss Jilly St John. She is back and as if it was ever possible, this time she is bigger, wylder and storming the Northern Irish music scene. With her new sound, new alias and extremely unique styling she is making it look almost painfully simple to start up and jump straight in to being what can only be described as awesome!
Wyldling has put her stamp on the Electronic/Rock genre of music making it in our opinion more accessible to a range of different listeners! Its sharp, empowering and just plain fantastic. We have seen without a doubt a massive growth in Miss Jilly St John, maturing into an amazing sound with metaphorical yet relatable lyrics that instantly grab your attention and force you to listen. This music cannot be ignored, just like Wyldling herself.
Although the genre of music can be placed in an electro/rock category it is still hard to pinpoint who Wyldling reminds us of, which in our opinion is great!! Why be like something thats already been done? We enjoy nothing more as music lovers to see those who have their own styles taking a leap of faith and hoping that the fan base will catch them and in case you haven't noticed, not only has Wyldling's fan base caught her, but they are parading her around like a Queen.
Wyldling has 3 songs up on SoundCloud at the moment; Siren, Let Go and (our personal favourite) Waiting on Water. If you haven't heard these tracks then get on them, you're in for a treat! If you have heard them well then its obvious ... listen again and again and then maybe some more!
Wyldling is appreciative of every single person that promotes her music and interacts with everyone, she is extremely down to earth and is 100% the one to watch this year, if this is what she can do in a few months then we here at CTC are beyond excited to see what she is going to pull out of her amazing shoes (she always has rocking' shoes!!) in the year to come!

... Because Music Matters Most!
So it doesn’t take a rocket scientist or robot (porno robot if you’re on twitter) to realise that the music coming out of Northern Ireland at the minute is of an astonishing standard!!! This blog has been set up in order to look into these bands, their material, genres, gigs and news in order to get them the publicity they deserve and a bit of recognition.
We as a blog aim to promote the music we do like instead of slaughtering the music we don’t! We don’t believe in the whole ‘any publicity is good publicity’ mumbo jumbo but we do believe that ‘time is precious’ so instead of wasting your time with bands that aren’t so good we thought we would try to fill your time with bands that ROCK!!!
If you are an artist/band or know of a band/artist within Northern Irelandthat you feel should have a piece wrote on them or be promoted (any promotion is good promotion apparently … I may have made that up) contact us through our email at [email protected] and we will get back to you asap!
Thanks Folks.
