Fascinating view into some history on Infomation Operations and the military applications as doctrine began to change.
I must study this more. Certainly there will be more to post as my quest for 'The Beginning of Cyberwar' continues.

Sykipot and Pirpi - Tools of cyber-war?
Intrigued with news of cyberattacks. I've been researching to find similarities in malware strains that others refer to as Advanced Persistent Threats or APTs.
These two names (sykipot and pirpi) will quickly lead one on a hunt for simple details in online AV analysis sites and news of targeted malware.
My posts with these two tags will present snippets of things I've found on the internet for this malware.

The PLA is no match for the U.S. armed forces, just as U.S. conventional forces in Europe were no match for the Soviet Union. So what prevents a sufficiently robust response from Washington to the increasing number of challenges from Beijing? The explanation may rest in what could be described as the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction of Economy (or MADE). While China lacks the capacity to inflict equivalent damage to the United States through military means, it has reached a stage of economic interlinking with the United States that would make a direct conflict between the two unacceptably costly for Washington. -Madhav Nalapat

This report confirms what I have heard time and time again: the Chinese remain the most aggressive and persistent perpetrators of economic and industrial espionage against the United States. Their continued theft of sensitive economic information is a threat to our national security, hurts American businesses and workers, and causes incalculable harm to global economy. This once again underscores the need for America’s allies across Asia and Europe to join forces to pressure Beijing to end this illegal behavior.
