I've written a story for this lovely photocollage from greyjedijaneite and it will be revealed next week! It's about Galadriel exploring the Forest of Neldoreth in search of Celeborn, who has got into difficulty there (with bonus Beleg and the Bumpus, from Tolkien's Collected Poems).

LOTRO OGs - It’s the end of August - Have you transferred yet?
Short version: LOTRO 32 bit servers are shutting down (Landroval, Laurelin, Crickhollow, Evernight, etc.). If you want to keep your characters and not pay for the pleasure in the future, transfer asap to a 64 bit server. More details under the cut.
Recently I’m at a gas station and I go into the store part. The clerk sees my license plate (FINROD) and asks me if I play LOTRO. We start talking and then I’m asked how I feel about the server shutdowns now this is the first I’m hearing about it so we talk a little bit and I find out that all of the servers I have characters on need to be cleared off and what’s more they need to be transferred by the end of August.
Now initially I felt this was something that I must have missed with all of the other things going on in my life so I grumble about it and make plans as to how we should deal with all of my alts. But over the past week, as I’ve talked to different people that I thought would have known I began to realize this was not necessarily common knowledge. And then I started sending messages to people who I haven’t seen play in a while and definitely found out this was not common knowledge. So I thought I would post here with some additional info that I’ve gathered about it to try to gain some awareness beyond those that I know play because I have a feeling there are a fair amount of people who are casual players or played in the past, but don’t want to lose their characters in case they might play again in the future. please spread the word because we only have until the end of this month (August 2025) to move characters before it’s pay to play on moving them in the future.
The basics:
Kin leaders should be moved first. In order to move a kin leader, the kin house must be abandoned.
I have seen many comments about moving items that are in escrow into storage or bags. I can’t verify how true it is that things are getting lost, but as a precautionary measure, I moved all of my escrow items into one of those two places before transferring.
After transferring kin leaders the other characters can be transferred.
Peregrin (US) and Meriadoc (EU) are the two 64 bit RP servers. There are three total servers for US and three total for UK.
if you have problems, seeing characters on the transfer screen, try going into your account and loading a character that is in that server. Then exit and try the transfer again. This seems to work to fix that situation.
if you have other errors with the transfer like servers not showing up at all or getting other error messages, try restarting your computer and attempting to do the transfer again.

Arvedui, Last King and Icebay of Forochel.
"Do not mount on this sea-monster! If they have them, let the seamen bring us food and other things that we need, and you may stay here until the Witch-king goes home. For in summer his power wanes; but now his breath is deadly, and his cold arm is long."
(J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A, "The Númenorean Kings", "Eriador, Arnor, and the Heirs of Isildur")

'Do you remember, dear friend,' said Oisín, 'who struck Goll, son of Morna, that morning above the Gowran Pass?' 'I struck him,' said Caílte, 'ripping the helmet of gold from his head and taking the equivalent of a very thick spearshaft of flesh from him.' 'But he was proud despite that,' said Oisín, 'though great his wound. He put his helmet on his head, took his weapons and said to his brothers that nothing was wrong with him.'

This is me, selling RPG mini figures. Is this Dragonborn Warrior (male) or Female Warrior Dragonborn? There's no hint on the packaging, so it's time once again to peer closely at the tiny plastic titties.

There's been so many of these in the polls 🤣

welcome to tolkien sea week 2026 🦢

have you ever noticed how many of tolkiens characters are connected to the sea? or that quite a few water-related events take place throughout the ages? have you ever wanted to explore elven sea-longing or the vast mystery of what goes on underneath the waves in your work? do you love characters like ulmo, elwing, maglor and tuor? then come join tolkien sea week! a week for celebrating the repeated water and sea motifs in tolkiens work 🌊
written prompts, rules, and faq below ༄.°
prompts ⋆˙⟡
➛ day one: yearning, unrest, wandering
➛ day two: sailing, new beginnings, love
➛ day three: lurking, danger, fear
➛ day four: melancholy, nolstalgia, past life
➛ day five: tranquility, comfort, family
➛ day six: insanity, mortality, endings
➛ day seven: escape, avoidance, freedom
rules ⋆˙⟡
𖥔 you can use any of the three words listed in the prompts for each day to inspire you to create something related to the sea within tolkien’s legendarium.
𖥔 when posting, tag @tolkienseaweek and use the hashtag #tolkienseaweek so we don’t miss your work! if you don’t do this, there is a pretty slim chance that your work will be seen by the moderators.
𖥔 you can create any kind of work you like! fanfic, art, moodboard, headcanons, gifsets, poems, anything you want.
𖥔 if you are posting your work on ao3, please add it to the collection that will be linked soon.
𖥔 please give your work a title so we are able to list all the works at the end of the event in a masterlist. if you don’t, it will be called something like “day four” or “day seven”.
𖥔 you may post nsfw works, but please tag them accordingly. the same goes for extremely triggering topics, since this event can have heavier/angstier elements.
𖥔 absolutely no works using generative AI. if it is evident that gen AI was used in the creation of your work, it will not be reblogged onto the event account or endorsed by event runners.
𖥔 late submissions are accepted, both during the event and after the event ends! we will check the event tag for about a week after the event ends once a day, and past that you must tag either @tolkienseaweek or @silme-lorien if you want your work reblogged and added to the masterlist.
questions? check here ⋆˙⟡
what constitutes a character or event being connected to water?
if the character or event you are creating a work around has a main plot point that involves the sea, a river, a lake, or any body of water of that nature, it counts. we do ask that your work actually depicts the characters connection to the water (ie, because niënor throws herself into the sea, she counts. but writing a fic about her searching for túrin would not count unless you can incorporate the sea into that). if you have more specific questions, send an ask!
do my works have to be in-universe?
not at all! i don’t want to limit your creativity. but please, if you are going to create a work in an alternate universe, ensure that the character or event you are depicting maintains it’s connection to the water. it must be involved in your work in some way.
are original characters allowed?
sure! as long as you can connect them to tolkiens works and the sea, go ahead.
is it okay if i can’t do all the days?
of course! you can participate in one or all the days. whatever inspires you!
⋆ if you have a question and it was not answered here or you need more clarification, you can send an ask to the event blog’s inbox or @silme-lorien
we look forward to seeing your contributions ! see you in february, and keep an eye out for updates… 🌊 🦢

My Years of the Trees timeline
The Tale of Years & other sources don’t give us dates for all the things I would like dates for, so I made a timeline to help me work out when I think things happened. (if in doubt, always make a timeline).
