Finally remembered to create a Mastodon Account. I'll still be posting old + new stuff here, but I'll be posting new works as well as more WIP stuff on there.

Updated. I'm trying to redo the poses with Clip Studio Modeler, but I'm having some issues:
I only have one PRO v1 license
I can't work on poses without a CSP license on the device
Multiple Page management requires a EX license
As such, I'm sticking with Krita until the next sale (if/when it happens)
I'm also archiving any web resources that exist for drawing this type of thing, so feel free to reach out if you know of any resources.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I couldn't find any good references when it came to drawing Indian clothing (specifically in anime-esque style), so I ended up trying to make my own.
The only source I could find on sarees was "How to Draw Manga Vol. 22: Bishoujo Around the World". I was unable to find any reference books with information on Salwar Suits.
Finish Salwar Kameez section
Add details on motifs + symbolism (varies across the region)
Consult others on details
Also, the source I mentioned above is out of print and isn't available for digital purchase anywhere. The only reason I was able to use it was thanks to the @internetarchive. I was able to use the scanned English version as well as get info on the Japanese version (via Wayback Machine). The only complaint I have is that the metadata needs fixing (isbn, publisher, etc).
TODO:
Finish Salwar Kameez section
Add details on motifs + symbolism (varies across the region)
Consult others for specifics
If anyone has issues / suggestions / feedback on this, feel free to reach out. This has been sitting on my drive for a while and I'm hoping to finish it up once I find the motivation.

ALTER EGO Mirror (Update)
After a bit of poking around and some asset extraction, I made a mirror which matches up pretty close to the in-game version.
Tumblr media
The frame is there to make sure that all the pieces are aligned up correctly and will not be part of the laser cut process.
The shards were extracted from the game assets and aligned manually (I was unable to figure out the placement from game files)
I tried using Adobe Illustrator to automatically convert the shards to vectors with... well... less than perfect results.
Tumblr media
This is the result of a lot of cleanup, and it's still broken. I might get someone on Fiverr to do this part for me, since I'm currently too lazy to do it myself.
I have some new concepts I want to mess with, so I'm gonna put this one on hold for now.
If anyone else wants to take a shot at it, lmk and I'll send you all my files.
ALTER EGO Mirror (WIP)
I'm a fan of a small mobile game called ALTER EGO by Caramel Column.
I had an idea a while back, but I might be finally able to make it work.
Without going into details, you end up making a shattered mirror which looks similar to this as part of the game (this is not mine):
Tumblr media
I thought it would be cool to get something like this printed / etched onto either glass or acrylic with a reflective back coating.
Tumblr media
After talking to an engineering friend, I believe this is how I should go about it:
Use the assets that I have to recreate the mirror as a vector image
Try to get the text to match with the image as close as possible (font is Special Elite)
Convert Vector Image to DXF file to be used with CNC or Laser tooling
... profit?
It probably won't be that simple and I still haven't started on anything yet, but I have a rough idea on where to start.

How I Transcribe Sheet Music
I'm not very good at this btw. This is mostly a guide for me (my memory isn't the best) and anyone who's interested.
The scorewriting software I use is MuseScore. It's free, somewhat intuitive (until it isn't), and open source.
I usually check YouTube and MuseScore.com to see if someone's already transcribed the song.
If nobody has made a transcription (or I don't like the transcriptions available), then I gather as much resources as I can.
Some scores are based on someone else's arrangement / performance (like this). If this is the case, I usually do the following:
Download the original song as well as the arrangement
Put all the notes into MuseScore in order (tempo and notation comes later)
Set appropriate Key and Time Signature
Configure tempo and notation to match as close to the original piece (or the arrangement) as possible
Add music theory notation to clean it up (repeats, coda, etc)
Some pieces are based on existing transcriptions (like this). If this is the case, I usually do the following:
Download the original song as well as the other transcription
Figure out the things I'd like to change (tempo, key, time signature, etc)
Figure out any music theory notation quirks (repeats, coda, etc)
Make a brand new file with these corrections
As I said, I'm not very good at this, but feel free to reach out if you have questions (preferably not through reblogs)

This is the Ningguang checkbook that I made for my friend.
I have a friend who really likes Ningguang, so I though this would be nice.
I wanted to get the image to be as detailed as possible, so I converted the icon from her Namecard (+ Jade Screen) into a vector.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I then paid someone on Etsy to print the design on a checkbook.
I'm still a bit disappointed on how it turned out, since the issues with the print detail are very visible, but my friend liked it, so that's what matters.

I made an IPv6 doormat ("There's no place like ::1")
Context
There's a famous line in the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy repeats "There's no place like home" a couple of times while spinning around and tapping her heels (I might be wrong, it's been a while).
In the context of computer networking, 127.0.0.1 is the IPv4 address for the loopback interface, which is used to refer to the local computer itself.
Because "There's no place like home" is a common thing to put on a doormat, people decided to make "There's no place like 127.0.0.1" doormats as well.
We're running out of IPv4 addresses, which is leading to some weird solutions. The closest analogy I can think of is if a country used up all possible phone numbers, except that extended to the entire internet.
One of the more sane solutions is to use IPv6 addresses. Without getting into details, this gives us a lot more addresses to use.
The best IPv6 equivalent to the iconic IPv4 loopback address ("127.0.0.1") would be "::1".
Made something roughly similar in Inkscape.
Tumblr media
Paid a seller on Etsy to print the design on a Cork Doormat. They forgot to send me a proof before shipping the final product, which resulted in the final product being off-center.

I had an idea for a Hanko design a while back.
The entire concept of using a seal instead of a signature was interesting to me, so I wanted to make something which combined the Japanese Hanko design with my cultural background.
The boat at the bottom is supposed to resemble a Kerala Houseboat.
The original version that I made had my full legal name (in Katakana), I made this variation a couple of minutes ago with my online nickname (സൈ or Cy).
The spacing doesn't work out great with the new text, but I can work with this.
