Sebastian's Tailcoats

For the majority of the first volume, Sebastian wears an open-front tailcoat, seemingly the one he manifested in almost three years prior.

At the end of volume one, he allows himself to be turned into swiss cheese for a chance to play dead and dramatically come back to life.

In the last few pages, we see that he's switched to a closed-front tailcoat. This coat only lasts one and a half volumes, but is immortalized through the first two anime seasons and the live-action movie, which capture a snapshot of Sebastian's early characterization and design.

When Grelle destroys it, Sebastian says that it was supplied by the manor. This implies that although he made the first tailcoat out of nothing, his clothing is now limited to what he can acquire the human way.

As the tailcoats of the manor's previous manservents are all different from this one, it seems that it was custom-made for Sebastian after he destroyed his original.

Interestingly, because it was supplied by the manor i.e. Ciel, Sebastian evidently didn't have to pay for it. This is in contrast to Mey-Rin and probably the other servants as well, who have to pay for all of their clothes.

After the closed-front tailcoat was destroyed, Sebastian returned to the original style, and has stuck with it for the next 31 volumes.

As he meticulously glues a recent photo taken at the Phantomhive manor of his Fräulein beaming alongside her friends, Lizzy, Soma, Alois, and O!Ciel, he realizes that his eyes are misting over. Though no longer a witch, Sieglinde can finally flourish as an ordinary girl.
