Carl Friedrich Gauss, however, could have completed watch for rolling rocks in half an A press.. This guy figured out how to draw a 17 sided shape with a ruler and compass, just imagine what he could do to the Mario 64 TAS if he was alive today

Bioshock Infinite could have been sooo good. Like, the original Bioshock was a genuinely brilliant piece of political commentary, a criticism of libertarianism and Ayn Rand. On top of that, it was a solid immersive sim with unique art direction that still holds up in the modern day. Then, they tried to make a criticism of Puritanism and religious influence on government. They even had an explicit focus on American history and politics, the temperance movement. Then they had some weirdo time travel bullshit story. Bioshock could have been the best trilogy of all time if they just kept doing things like naming the villain “Andrew Ryan” and then having you beat him to death with a golf club. Then the story for Bioshock Infinite sucked shit and dropped the ball on its own core political themes. I’m kinda mad about it, because there is genuinely an insane and unparalleled level of creativity in the original Bioshock that combined with real political messaging that no game of its size has managed to do. The art direction and design even hold up well. The series had the potential to be bigger than Far Cry or Fallout but yeah, it stumbled. A damn shame, if you ask me. And now the best American political commentary we have is Fallout, and while it’s good, we don’t get to find a guy named “Bonald Blegan” and beat him to death with a heavy book on economic policy.

I think it’s worth commenting on the difference between the Fallout and Metro games. Both are post-apocalyptic games where former citizens of the United States/Soviet Union have formed their own warring factions for control, both feature factions that are analogous to political movements in their nations past and present. Many can be compared, Metro’s black line and the brotherhood of steel, the enclave and the brown line being controlled by the former government. I think both series are made around the same theme, not the end of the world, but the end of civilization, and the way people would react, the way people would try to rebuild. The main differences are cultural and regional - no fallout faction compares to the explicit communism of the red line. Most of metro is set in the Moscow metro, a huge cultural icon for the soviets, where so much of Fallout is set around iconic American landmarks, Washington DC, Las Vegas, national parks. Even the radioactive mutants are cultural - the packs of wild dogs in Moscow, the scorpions being a symbol of the west, the differences are fascinating, especially because the factions are so comparable. I firmly believe that Fallout is American Metro and Metro is Soviet Fallout.
It’s also worth noting that both games are stupid levels of fun to explore.

I have now played at least 3 games where you play as a robot with interchangeable parts and the ability to take said parts from your enemies. Cogmind is an excellent rougelike that executes this concept better than any other game I’ve ever played. The thing to note is that cogmind is a 2D ASCII game from a solo dev, and it’s more fun than TerraTech, which uses a full 3d physics engine and block based building system. The thing to note is the huge impact that UI and art style have - terratech has a generally unremarkable low-poly world with parts that look like they came from sci-fi vehicle concept art. Cogmind’s UI looks like something a robot would design for themselves, the 2D blocks of the world look like approximations of sensor data, and it’s world features a ton of non-combat robots to scrap for parts. Despite the fact that terratech actually lets you build a 3d robot using parts from other scrapped bots, and cogmind is ASCII, cogmind feels like a far better implementation of the idea because every part of the game works together. I highly recommend reading the developer’s blog. The third game is crossout, which deserves commendation for making it work in multiplayer.

I would hunt Linux users for sport, given the opportunity. Nothing against them, I this think it would be fun. Microsoft would pay me a commission for each one, like hunting buffalo in the 1870s
