i know i clown daemon a lot, but i'm gonna say this again ( it is literally his description ) : daemon is both hero and villain. he is capable of heroic deeds just as he is capable of terrible actions. he is beloved and hated. he is devoted to his family, he is also pursuing an agenda that is entirely his own ( though perhaps, still motivated by his loyalty to said family, but also to their house and traditions, which is where it gets muddied a little bit, because those don't always align with the individual wellbeing of his family members, but this is for another post ). he is a protector, also a deceiver. he groomed rhaenyra ( and because of that, their dynamic is inherently abusive, and no, i will not take criticism about this ) but he was also her support system during some difficult times ( this does not negate the heinous nature of his actions. ) i will not reduce the horrid aspects of his character, nor will i erase the better aspects of him. i am, of course, doing my best to be conscientious of what i write, and i will never explicitly write things that don't need to be explicitly written. but i'm echoing what the dash is saying — characters in this universe are complex, and operate in gray areas, some darker than others. but they cannot be reduced to simply heroes or villains. no ( or at least very few ) character is "evil" all the way through, from start to finish. and it's exhausting to continuously have to fight against those labels when you're trying to explore a fictional character in this space.

first time daemon went hunting as a boy, he caught a white rabbit, and he asked the kitchens to skin and cook him for it. he watched the cook go through the process, observes the skinning in particular so he knows how to do it himself next time. daemon eats the rabbit he caught, grease dripping down his chin and everything. he's developed a fondness for rabbit meat from then on. u know what rabbits symbolize though. fertility, luck, and creativity. u know who's fond of rabbits? viserys. and not as food! i think viserys is absolutely right; daemon is the plague sent to destroy him. u have two rabbit enjoyers here, juxtapose that w/ rhaenyra's white hart. did you guys know rabbits are also cannibalistic animals? yeah. yeah they are. there is so much symbolism here and no one is talking about it.
