There's something just so uniquely comforting like no other in waking up from a series of nightmares only to be soothed by your daemons and being able to let your partner sleep. I really am so blessed to have them in my life and I'm grateful to have known them for such a vast part of my life <3

I have officially reached obsession crossover! By which I mean I've assigned Gideon and Harrow daemons

Gideon:

I think Gideon's daemon would settle as a musk ox

They're very strong and hardy, and also assertive, social, and protective of their 'herd.' I think Gideon and her dae would love being big enough to be intimidating and useful in combat. This would also give her someone big and soft to cuddle with (I believe irl musk ox are pretty stinky, but I'm also pretty sure daemons don't have body odor)

Harrow:

I think Harrowhark's daemon would settle as a bearded vulture

Hear me out! It's not just because they eat bones! (It's a little bit because they eat bones) Bearded vultures are pretty standoffish and not a very social bird, but they are also known to form very close bonds to their mates. They're also just very industrious and resourceful birds. I think Harrow would look especially cool and intimidating in the skull paint, black robes, and a giant vulture on her shoulder

I haven't decided what daemons I think other characters would have, and I have no idea what lyctorhood would do to daemons. Feel free to share thoughts and add on to this post! Even disagree if you think something else fits Gideon or Harrow better!

Your Daemon & You (Pt 1.1/12)

We've been wanting to really talk about our daemons and these relationships for a long time as opposed to just reblogging forms but it can be really hard to think up prompts! This site has a lot of different questions and I think that's what we'll focus on for awhile, for our own alter-daemon relationships, learning about each other and for general daemon awareness! These will be longish posts, no tl;dr just for warning! Questions and individual answers under the cut. Not all alters may answer each question and not all may self-identify or identify their daemon. However we will differentiate based on text colour :) (Disclaimer: Colours may or may not be consistent which is why we've added ours and our daemons' names as well. Sadly tumblr is limited in its font colours)

When did you meet your daemon? -Em (of Thom and Ani): I was 16 and I had just finished the HDM series a couple days after my birthday. I was feeling lonely and wishing how I had a daemon of my own and Thom popped up as a red fox on the pillow beside me and simply said "But you do." With Ani, I met her a few days after creating her. She was quiet and demure as we were at work as a vet tech. It was so lovely to just feel her calm and assurance during work that day. -Kay (of Kekani): I formed in the body's mid-20s. Em (the only host at the time) had recently gotten back into speaking with their daemon after a long break and I think that influenced us a lot. I fronted back and forth with them, though we didn't know that at the time. I think Kiki was formed because of the newfound love Em had for their daemon and I believe that affected her development quite a bit as it mirrors the love I have for Kiki. And one day she was just there next to me. Never looked back. -Allison (of Azekia and Zephyrus): I am a fusion of two parts. In Ashley of Ziki's case, Ziki was a long time "imaginary friend" that either always was or evolved into a daemon. I had her since I was very young (3 or 4!) and she evolved with me. In Alice of Z's case, Z formed with Alice in our mid-20s. He just came right with her and has been with her since she arrived in our system. Thankfully when I fused, I got to keep both daemons! It had been a question of "what will happen??" for the first week post-fusion ^^; -Kell (of Isadora): When I formed I was bitter. I hated it. I was debilitatingly depressed. To be ripped away from your own world to a new one where you know no one and have left behind so many is hard, and it doesn't really ever heal. But I was followed by a weird, large cat. Constantly. She was always there and there was some kind of odd communication with her that I didn't have with anyone else. Eventually I spoke to a very old alter ("Auntie"), who explained the whole "system" issue, what that meant and how daemons worked/what they are. So I started speaking to mine. I learned what her form was (we don't have jaguarundis in my world) and eventually we decided on a name. I have to say that having her in my life has helped immensely. She's helped heal many wounds as well as helping ground me in my new reality -Eris (of unnamed): I'm kind of a weird one! I'm a temporary fusion of two of the kids in the system so either I exist in the system or those two kids do! We can't exist all three at once. The kids don't have their own daemon but when we're fused into me, we have a wonderful leopard gecko daemon! I'm not sure why honestly. I think it's probably a mutual want by both kids to have their own individual daemons and I think this wish definitely came into play. But from the very first time I fused into myself, I had my daemon! I don't think that he disappears when I'm the kids. I think that maybe both their consciousnesses hold a key part of my daemon so he can only exist when I'm me! Just a guess tho ^^

How would you define settledom, and when/how to declare it?

I personally do not like using the word settled. But, settledom is when you have reached a firm understanding of who you are and how you express yourself. Behaviors and beliefs are more set and no longer easily change. Your personality has reached a milestone where you now have a "core self".

But, sometimes these core traits can have many other changing factors that surround them. We don't ever reach a point where we stop learning, growing, and evolving our sense of self. This is how someone can have multiple different animals that fit throughout their lifetime and each settled form be as accurate as the last. We all go through different periods of stability or "settledom" every few years (from what I've observed of myself and others). It's not typically a full rewiring, it's subtle shifts and changes. So, someone who is opportunistic and conflict avoidant is likely to remain so, but their confidence levels may shift. Just as an example. Its a small shift, but this change can be enough to influence our settled forms.

Now on to the other kind of settledom. Settledom can also happen when your daemon picks a permanent, single form. This is now their "true" or "main" form. This settled form is most often one of a few things. A daemon may take the form that best reflects their person's settled identity, as is tradition. Or maybe this is the form that represents something about the daemon themselves. There are also daemons who are settled because they have only ever had one form and have no interest in changing.

But, even if a person or daemon is settled the daemon can still take on other forms if they choose. Think of it as changing clothes. Their settled form is still fixed underneath the temporary forms they shift into. A comfortable, cozy home to return to when they are done.

Some people only recognize settledom when their personality settles, others only refer to their daemon's form, and some only claim it when both align.

I find deciding you are settled really comes down to what you feel is right. Some know instantly, others wait months to see what happens. Either is correct. Sometimes you really do just *know*. But, overall it happens most often at the end of self reflection and learning how to identify key traits within yourself that then can be attached to animals the community has analyzed. This is that famous, fun activity called Form Finding! But, no matter when you decide to claim settledom, just know that if you decide you were wrong, your daemon changes, or things no longer feel accurate... you did nothing wrong! Do not beat yourself up, feel guilty, or even feel like you can't be settled just because the form wasn't right. It can take a bit to find that perfect fit, even when you *know* you are settled. If you ended up not being settled, congratulations on that self discovery and further self understanding. I'm proud of you for getting there.

There is no "official" way to declare your daemon is settled. But, you can certainly have fun with it. Throw yourself a party, get you and your daemon a gift of your settled form, tell your daemian friends, and post it to the daemonism communities. Celebrate how you choose!

Hi! We actually have both!

While multiple alters have their own individual daemons, we do have a System-wide daemon named Demippos (affectionately referred to as Meepo but the younger members)

Demippos sort of serves as either: 1. Extra support to someone if they need it, even if they already have a daemon, and 2. Serving as a daemon for those who don't have one and want one.

We're not entirely sure how we got him, but I think he's an introject of a character from a daemon-focused self-help app as after our quiz, this is the name and form we were given.

On the other hand, we have another System friend who discovered their System after knowing their daemon for years and she ended up staying the sole daemon in the System (I'd tag but I'm not sure if they're comfortable with that).

Does anyone else have systemwide daemons? Like, a daemon/daemons that are tied to the whole system, and not one headmate?

Maybe it’s because we’re a mediple system - Fennec formed extremely early in the body’s life when we were much less defined as headmates and almost entirely unaware of each other, so it’s possible that as we grew more distinct, he decided not to choose anyone? He definitely seems to prefer me, but neither him nor I would say that he’s exclusively my daemon.

Part of it may also be that he wasn’t originally formed as a daemon - Fennec was made as an imaginary friend by a past host when we were about five or six, and slowly formed his own consciousness. He’s changed animal forms a few times over the years (can you guess what the first one was) and likes taking the role/label of a daemon as it fits him extremely well, but it was never his original purpose.

His purpose was friend :3

Anyway, we’d greatly appreciate hearing from folks with similar experiences if you’d like to share! On a more casual note, Fennec has been iffy about using a ferret form for months now but today he finally decided to go for it and he’s literally so excited that it’s bleeding into my feelings too!! He’s a cinnamon/chocolate coloured domestic ferret (photo below!)
